In this episode, we show the opportunities for aquaculture in the Algarve. A region dependent on seasonal work, based on tourism, which is dynamic and very stimulating for qualified talent in the area of marine biology, Fátima Lopes returns to the landscape of the Algarve's rias, but this time to put her feet in the water at the Alvor nature reserve. It is here, with her, that we will discover Aqualvor's history and show, on the one hand, the professional career opportunities that our young scientists specializing in biology can find in Portugal, helping the national economy to be competitive, through the sustainable use of natural resources and the development of new products with the intelligent application of European funds. On the other hand, and with a view to the sustainability of the maritime ecosystem, we demystify and clarify public opinion about the benefits of fish raised in controlled aquaculture production, both in terms of food safety and as a food alternative to support the population's need for fish consumption. Aqualvor is one of more than 290 projects that have the support of the Mar 2020 Program to provide these companies with technology for scientific research and to improve energy efficiency through innovative equipment. In total, 140 million euros were invested in Portugal in 2021.
