    I think Simons brain is just way too smart for a 2 Star puzzle and he overlooks like every single easy deduction and tries to prove it in the most complicated ways possible 😂

      I was thinking that at 36:50 when he had announced odd three on a length seven line but was deliberating why the other end could be a four or six…. Me “Simon it’s a four you already have four even digits on that line and you know it has three odd digits”

    R8c8 could have been a problem. It is on a line of length 9 with a 1 or 2 on the other end. So it was marked as having possible values of 6 or 8 instead of 7 or 8. Luckily it turned out to be an 8 and he didn’t use the fact that both of the possibilities he marked were even.

    We have all been yelling at the screen for a while when Simon says "why didn't I see that straight away".
    Here is why. Simon's brain works at such a high level that he can't see the low level obvious.
    Some of us who love to yell at the screen, have difficulty getting to a high enough logic to break into the harder puzzles. So, we watch Simon until he gives us the break in. Then we do all the lowly work until we get stuck. Then we watch Simon again until he gives us the next bit of high logic.
    Thanks Simon, we make a great team.

    This puzzle drove me crazy! Like Simon, I ignored about 10 easy things and made super complicated calculations - though, in my defense, I never resorted to bifurcation - that just ignored the basic concepts of the puzzle! 79 minutes for me! I'm embarrassed. But thanks to math pesto and Simon, as always!

    i cannot find a way out of the right hand bottom of the grid. let's hope i will find a mini clue from Simon to get on, before i have to watch all of the video.
    66:47 i was too rigid thinking in that bottom, but finally found it.
    Great logic throughout!! Proud to have found my way through with only confirmation that my break-in deductions where sound. And i just had to figure it out in that bottom corner.

    32:15 "It's either 5-2 or 3-4" - this can be immediately disambiguated by noting that there are already four evens on the line, but if it was 5-2 that would be 5 *odds* and 2 evens

    Very nice puzzle. 23:03 for me. It could have been quicker, but I find switching modes when the pen tool is active is very awkward. The number of times I put a circle in a square I was trying to select was ridiculous. There are redundant modifier key combinations that could be used to momentarily select the pen tool, without having to switch to the tool and remember to switch out. I like to stay in big digit mode, and use ctrl to enter centre marks, shift to enter corner marks, and shift+ctrl for colours. If alt were to activate the pen tool, I'd be much more efficient.
    @ 36:19 "That's 4 or 6" - Why do you make things hard for yourself? It's a 7 cell line, and you've already got 3 in the odd end. It's got to be 4. Since it can't go up two cells, the circle to the left is also 4, which means the circle to the left of that is 3. The first 4 means the rest of the cells on the line must be odd, which pens in the 4 region, and makes the cells above and to the right 4. Note that, if you had followed up when you placed the 3 in the circle, you wouldn't have even had to think about whether the other end was 4 or 6. This lack of follow-up is behind so many of your problems. It only takes a second to make sure you extract all of the benefit of each placement. Instead, you'd rather zoom off to somewhere unrelated.
    @ 40:39 - What on earth are you thinking? It's a 23 line, that means 2 evens and 3 odds. It doesn't matter which end's which, you've already got 2 evens, so the rest must be odd. Now you don't have to think about which end's which, because there's only one possibility - the lower bulb can't be 2, so it must be 3. The cell to the left of the 2 can't be 3, but it can't be 5 or more because of the 1234 above it, so it must be 1. This forces the 2 to go up, making the line above it a 14, and the 1 we just placed means the lower bulb is 4.
    @ 46:59 - "I can still force this logic to be beautiful" - Why are you forcing it? Just pencil-mark the 6s. This hits the lower circle of the top line, which can't be higher than 6. It means the 6+ region must be of size 6, and its last cell will touch the 16 you're playing with. There's no need to force anything. That 1 is the only odd on the line. You're left with 6 blues that can't be a single region, but must be 2 and 4, and there's only one way to arrange it.

  • @sam_c95

    This is the second puzzle I've ever solved without needing to get any hints whatsoever from the video, so I'm pleased with that!
    I made a stupid mistake halfway through - I thought I had 8 8s but I only had 7 8s in my region! When I realised I clicked undo all the way back to see if missing that affected any other logic. Luckily it had no impact on anything I had done since, so I could click redo all the way back to where I was and just add the 8th 8 on the end hahaha.

  • @chocolateboy300
    @chocolateboy300 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I finished in 219 minutes. I think the title of this video is apt, because this was one of my worst showings that I have ever performed. Nothing was clicking with me and I kept failing so hard. It wasn't until 90 minutes, that I reread the rules and saw that each end of the line had to have one even and one odd. I really messed that up and thought double evens or odds were possible. That would have stream-lined the break-in so much. Of course, I was halfway through the puzzle when I saw that and thus a ticking time bomb of my second mistake was happening. It took me an additional 90 minutes before I saw that I forgot to correct everything I did up to that point I reread the rules. After realizing that, I was able to easily place 1 into r4c7. After that, the puzzle became much more enjoyable. What a cavalcade of errors, though. I feel like I have to apologize to the puzzle for what I have done to it. Sorry puzzle, you deserve better than what I just did to you. The puzzle had cool ideas and I did enjoy it once all rules were understood. Great Puzzle!

    I finally got this one solved. It took me 97 mins, because I got very stuck thinking I had broken the puzzle so I backtracked a bunch only to repeatedly prove myself right several times over. Turns out I made one poor deduction about where a certain 6 region had to go, so I never filled in anything wrong, I had just convinced myself that what I I had didn’t work.
    It’s ok though. This was my first non Sudoku that I attempted, so I learned a lot from finishing it.

    I noticed the sudoku classic app was updated. It has smart hint now!! That's a very welcome addition. Sometimes I'm at the end of the puzzle and I'm missing 1 piece of logit, so I have to go to the hints. But I might have to go through a lot of them to see what I missed. Then again sometimes smart hint is 10 hints to tell me that i just need to ask where 3 goes in column 5. lol

    37:16 on my 2nd attempt, 69:53 on my first, 107:09 total. On my first attempt, I made an awful mistake at the very beginning, putting a 1 in r2c7. It flowed well for like 25 minutes after that, I struggled for another 40 minutes, looked at the solution to see my mistake. My second attempt went much better after all my experience with this puzzle, but I also made a mistake in the lower left, miscounting the number of odd/even cells in the the line and making r8c1 an even and wasting like 10 minutes. Remembering that the regions didn't have to be completely on a single line was throwing me for some reason.

    When I did this, I had r9c10 as 3, and r10c9 as 2 (with everything else being as you had it). This clearly wasn't the intended solution, but is there any actual reason for this to be wrong, or does this puzzle just have two solutions?
    EDIT: First off, I originally screwed up the coordinates in this comment, fixed now.
    Second, there totally is a reason that I missed: the arrow in r7c6

      I think it's the arrow in r7c6 pointing into that corner. Because the arrow has a 2 which means there has to be an odd digit along that diagonal

    This was frustrating for me because in 2 separate instances I didn't think about using more than one or two polyominoes. The lower right corner I knew needed a 5 cell region and a 1 cell region, and I just didn't think to break the 5 into a 3 and a 2. Then at the very end the I got the final 6 cell region touching the forced 6 cell region but it didn't occur to me to break it into a 4 and a 2!
    That's why I always have the video open in another tab when solving these. Just in case I get suck and can use some of Simon's logic.

    Is there anything in the rules that prohibit using a zero for an even circle?

    • @elLooto
      @elLooto ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. You cant make a zero region and also put a 0 in it.

    • @RichSmith77
      @RichSmith77 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or, put another way, the cell has to be part of a region of non-zero size.

    I thought I solved it, but I have an other outcome then Simon. So looking closely I see I miscounted the number of odd/even numbers on one line.
    Damn.

    34:23 for me. It was quiet tricky with the colouring though. Either it was messy or had too little information if I only used orange/blue. But got there in the end. :)

    Hello, can anyone tell me a website or smth similar where i can search for puzzles like these, coz if i just type sudoku + (literally anything), the results are always the same and they're in my local language which makes it even more frustrating

    • @RichSmith77
      @RichSmith77 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried searching for Logic Masters Germany (or Logic Masters Deutschland)?
      A lot of these puzzles are posted there first. There's an advanced search page way you can filter by type, such as polyomino.
      (I'd link to it, but I think TH-cam would delete my comment.)
