I feel disgusted that Pedestrians feel they have the right to hurry and cross in front of traffic that are desperately trying to move out of the FD's way and yet those dumb peds don't even have any important places to go unlike emergency responders. Total waste of space. >:(
Desperately trying to move? What video was you watching....every time i watch a video of new York all the drivers are fucking arrogant pricks.....NOT MOVING OUT THE WAY.
They kept walking because they're most likely foreigners no fucking common sense at ALL. if those cab drivers flooring there car to pass the fire truck didn't have a brain the size of a wallnut they would all just stop even though there is lanes open just stop!? That's the last thing that'll slow you down is a fire truck going to a call you dumb fuckers really wish fire truck driver were more aggressive like they use to be pushing and hitting cars that's blocking the way or trying to get close to go around you fuck them I would rip there shit apart
I agree, cars *must always* give way, but.... maybe..... they were a little hesitant because they could get a fine or into a crash (not everyone stops for fire truck) for passing a red light, (on min 1:20, 1:25 you can se the pedestrian had “green” light going in front of fire truck which is the same way that traffic in NYC) and sadly there are too many red light cameras in NYC and not everyone has enough time to contest a ticket in court, especially in NYC. Have a nice day everyone! 👍
Oops! That was pretty wild, great catches! Nice Ambulance, Fire Trucks and NYPD car! NYPD were only trying to help by letting that Ambo through, they wouldn't have been aware of FDNY turning out until they'd blocked the traffic, at least the Engine got away first.
Not to mention, he was already clearing the intersection before the ladder started pulling out of the station. So, technically, this was not the fault of the NYPD. Feckin' taxis were the biggest threat to this one, followed by the millions of brainless selfie nimrods that just ignore the everyday life occurring around them. I bet 3/4 of the population of New York these days hears a firetruck, yet, fails to move out of the way of it, but still has the audacity and the nerve to sit there and say "There goes New York's Bravest, doing what they do best." Yea, doing their best as in dodging people who don't pay attention to get to a call.
New York City will never change. I've been a native New-Yorker since 1979. If you really LOVE New York, this should not come as a surprise to anyone. New York City is a fast city. People are always in a rush, from pedestrians to cars, buses, and trucks... even first-responders vehicles. If you were raised here, to eventually moving out of the city.. you would eventually miss all the hustle and bustle. This city NEVER sleeps.
People are also “entitled” in some way, not in a bad way, but don’t always think too much about others. For example, the family crossing the road probably didn’t notice they were blocking the FDNY until they were halfway across the crosswalk, which is why they ran.
I just retired from NYC transit after 25 years. We would use the buses to block intersections for the fire department to get through. Now the idiot's who run the city think congestion pricing is going to work
Really nice catch. Without knowing where they were going, it would be hard to know who has priority. NYPD tried to do the right thing, but the FDNY must not have liked it. :D

Seems to me that having a demand control system from the firehouse would be really useful here - traffic coming from the fire truck's left should have a continuous green with all other crossings being red until trucks are out.
I agree, cars *must always* give way to fire trucks, but.... maybe..... they were a little hesitant because they could get a fine or into a crash (not everyone stops for fire truck) for passing a red light, (on min 1:20, 1:25 you can se the pedestrian had “green” light going in front of fire truck which is the same way that traffic in NYC) and sadly there are too many red light cameras in NYC and not everyone has enough time to contest a ticket in court, especially in NYC. I’m seeing so many angry comments. This happens on the daily basis. Us New Yorkers are immune to this sort of madness. And yes we do cross the street middle of traffic otherwise you won’t get anywhere
I'm from rural USA but I see more and more of benefits of using european style emergency vehicles in the cities. Ambulances espcially. Vanbulnaces can get through traffic much easier and give far better ride quality on bumpy city streets. Smaller pumpers could maneuver through heavy traffic 10x better. Just saying. Large trucks are better and are mostly practical out in the country where we have wide backroads with constant traffic flow and very few intersections, and need to carry all that water, etc.
I hope the goverment learned by now from it to impose not only serious fines for blockers but also have implemented tools like: extra red lights to stop traffic whe fire engines must exit busy roads
You have to reduce the number of car lanes and parking lots. Build (protected) bike and bus lanes instead and emergency vehicles can use it. It's easy!
Haha! Driving in midtown isnt for the faint of heart in the first place. The streets are crowded, traffic is heavy and your stuck most of the time. Its hard to yield when youre surrounded by noone being able to move! Insane!
In Germany many fire dpts have access to the nearby traffic lights so that they can stop the traffic and clear the junction/exit. Would be a good idea for ny with its "I don't give a fuck" people
During 9/11 in the same city years ago first responders were treated as hero’s. 2 decades later in the exact same city pedestrians don’t even stop or make eye contact with emergency vehicles. The level of disrespect to first responders and the level of ignorance towards the emergency they are responding to for another person is astounding.
That air horn works magic! I can’t be mad at the cop for blocking that intersection though, look at the situation, one engine rolls by, if I was in the cops shoes, and I didn’t see any others coming, I would’ve blocked the intersection too. You can even see the cop hurrily waving the motorist that was behind him to hurry up so the cop can get out of the way for the rest of the fire company.
Technically cars are not supposed to stop in front of the driveway of the station. So technically the NYPD unit only blocked part of the way it woulda only been the first few cars that made it to the stop bar. But yeah mucked up situation pretty cool shot.
Nothing new i work all over Manhattan and this is a constant thing much respect for the firefighters though they move through traffic like you wouldn't believe..

why not have gates for the ev's like they do train crossings? alarm goes up the lights turn on ya got a few seconds to move or ure car is toast. the gates block traffic until the final vehicle signals to turn the shit off....thus resuming traffic. how fucking hard is that?
it's amazing to me, after all that NYC has been through, people will not move out of the way for a firetruck
but honestly, most of these people are not even from NYC, you can literally tell that they are tourists.

EASY TO ANSWER.
Priority ONE: LIFE
Priority TWO: PROPERTY
Priority THREE: NON PROPERTY
Technically both have same priority but ambulance moves faster than fire truck so usually goes first unless active fire.
Even if this is a 5 years old uploaded video, doesn't mean it is sooo cool! Great catch, my friend!
