I can think of far worse things you can waste your time on.
What would have been truly amazing is taking this combat and putting it over the midnight suns instead of the card game we got that game had a great cast of heroes and an amazing story
Each character felt extremely different from one another. That was the best part of the game. There was actual quality when making the characters gameplay besides what they did with the copy DLC, and the most important part is truly the online aspect and the lack of mission differentiation. The only great part is that each character feels like they’re playing in their own different game.
They should've added missions where one player is being stealthy, trying to get to the hostages without being noticed while the others are distracting the bad guys. That would've been fun!
@@buggart when the game first came out, I can’t do thought that’s what it would be, and when you play the campaign in the beginning, it kind of felt like it would be like that, but it never turned out
The original beta of the game made me experience something I've never experienced in any other media: motion sickness and headaches within minutes of playing, i was so baffled and confused that happened to me
I too get motion sick when playing games. I've found a few other tricks to help: play in a well-lit room, stay hydrated, don't play when tired, and lower the mouse sensitivity. Oh, also, reminding myself to tilt the camera up, so the horizon line is in the middle of the screen or lower. Your glasses may also be contributing to the problem if the focal point is above or below your natural horizon. I've found that cheaper glasses (without customized focal points) make motion sickness worse. You can test if you have a focal length problem by holding a string out from the end of your nose. If you focus on the end in your hand, but can see the string cross itself, that's a sign that your eyes have a focus problem.
I'm a massive fan of Square Enix, but this game was garbage. I got it brand new and completed everything it had to offer within 48 hours of buying it (not 48 hours of gameplay). It was crashing, laggy, had very bad save points, and the balance was terrible. Honestly, after many years, it looks like the same trash it was at launch. The funny part was the people defending this crap. Honestly, it was a shitshow and is probably my worst purchase of the last decade.
It's funny to look at game footage for 1 second and simultaneously feel, "Wow, that looks like they spent a lot of money on it!" and "It's completely soulless."
@osc-oldschoolclips5204 no lie, each character had an absolute epic intro. My favorite being black widow, would've never guess she was the tiny dancer, 2nd iron man saving cap in space, 3rd hulk and kamala teaming up against aim on the chimera, 4th Thor coming out of the storm like a beast, 5th Tony stark cooking weiners in the back yard and then grabbing scraps to make a suit to fight.
@killkweezy spiderman is 5:47:00 avengers is 5:13:00, everyone hated screwball missions & science lab, the collectibles were filler, and the DLC had mixed reviews (tombstone was great though). Avengers had a terrible co-op mission structure the released characters had mixed reviews, and everyone love black panther DLC.
I feel so sad, I loved this game so much and had so much fun finding gear that clicked with other teams or my other heroes. I wish they had done more with it.
It’s super interesting comparing this to Titanfall 2 and how that game went on sale and player numbers jumped to 20k during the past month and nobody picked up Avengers. And titanfall is almost a decade old
I didn’t have much expectations for this game but I was amazed how good the game looks. I was able to pick it up for $7 and managed to put a good amount of hours into it. Got my money’s worth for the content I got.
At this point in 2023 you're basically a beta tester paying $70 for the privilege of playing while the bugs are being fixed. Just waiting about 2-5 years for a massive sale has been the best decision I made in gaming.
The saddest part is that Guardians of the galaxy game (which was miles better) sold less than expected because people thought its gonna be another Avengers live service so we're never gonna get a sequel
Quick Cons and Pros List: Cons- 1. Repetitive boring gameplay loop with the same enemies that require no variance in tactics. 2. Gear effects dont matter, you have to equip the gear with the higher Power number to do missions and you're gonna replace it almost immediately. 3. Bugs and menu issues killed the pacing. 4. Matchmaking made no attempt to put you with people similar in level. Pros- The story is pretty decent even the dlc. I found myself wanting to skip the gameplay so i could watch more cutscenes. 2. Unique fighting styles. While some characters were similar to others, most of them had unique mechanics that you could customize. 3. Tons of cosmetic options. 4. It looks great.
You know what I've been realizing lately, games as a service really could have worked IF the games were also labors of love first, then GAAS second. All of them however were at least 80% focused on wasting your time and getting you to buy currency. I was one of the suckers who put my hopes on a few of them as my next "forever game" before finally seeing the patterns that others had warned me about years before.
I've grabbed it out of curiosity, because the campaign was supposedly good, so £3 (as it is in the UK) is probably worth it. What baffled me about this thing on release was that it came after the tri-sasters of Battlefront II, Fallout 76 and Anthem. 3 years; 3 failures, each for basically the same reason (they were the antithesis of what fans of each series/developer wanted), and Squenix thought, "Yeah, but they're *bound* to want this one!"
And WB said “let’s do that!” With Gotham Knights and pivoted but it was too late and of course Shadow of War whenever that was and WB is going that route again with Suicide Squad
I bought this last week on Steam - and I'll still play it eventually, but it's cool to hear your thoughts. "For some people maybe this works, for some people, like if you're a DarksydePhil type, maybe the bright colors and the gacha mechanics make you excited and giddy"
Bought this for 4 dollars on steam. I had heard mixed to bad stuff about it back when it launched, but still had a slight interest in it. Now playing it with my friend in co op, i'm having a blast honestly. It's such a fun button masher with some simple combos and flair to the gameplay. Not to mention a HUGE amount of awesome and varied costumes to use and skill trees to unlock. The missions can be super short or pretty long. But i definitely think this is like a solid 6 or 7 /10
God, you really had to scrape the barrel for that compliment. Any game with borderlands esc gear will let you play how you want to. The problem is not playing the game is more fun than any build you can make.
The companion feature doesn't effect matchmaking, instead it allows you to pick which AI buddies go with you, if none are selected, then the AI will be random every time you start a mission
After a month of getting this I played through the story(it was good) and ran some missions with friends. Honestly, a fun game that if priced properly and supported well without the ridiculous grind these live service games create, could’ve been something. This could’ve done well for itself with a decent community behind it but so many of the publishers insist on full prices and predatory battle pass nonsense and end up shooting the devs in the foot. Everyone deserved better.
This game should be an obligatory case study. How do you screw up a massive AAA title featuring the most popular characters to exist in current pop culture???
The real problem is that it makes no fucking sense to have a RPG elements or live service game. Captain America doesn't need leveling up! The Hulk is already the fucking Hulk. If it was strictly an action game where you unlocked abilities a la Arkham, then it would be fine. There shouldn't be any fucking gear though. Iron Man is the **only** Avenger for whom upgrading gear makes any sense at all. Fundamentally, these different characters require different sorts of gameplay. Imagine if they put Wolverine or Daredevil in the Spider-Man games. Those things are all about traversal! The pace of the thing would be totally thrown off.
They had to patch in the ability to let people play as the same characters because matchmaking was impossible when it was forced to make completely distinct parties given how small the player base already was.
And nothing of value was lost... seriously the game industry would rather lose $100 million on a failed live service than make a mere $50 million in profits from an honest game.
I actually got it when it first launched and I still somewhat enjoy it, just wish we got more characters to play as and more gameplay mechanics, I just hope people who enjoy comic book games can get some joy out of this for a while.
I remember my dad picking up this game during 2020 and he’s a hard-core marvel fan. He grew up with the comics when he was a kid. Then, literally, a few days later, he stopped playing it because it was too difficult for him. All I Gotta say is R.I.P. my dad’s $60
I have 80 hours in this game. Just enjoyed beating up bad guys as a superhero. It really had potential but I agree with how bad it turned out to be for most ppl
I have this game perma installed on my PS5 just to go into photo mode. It's nice to just shoot some of your favorite heroes especially with so many skins. It's kinda like just swinging around in the Spiderman games
I actually really enjoyed Marvel’s Avengers, I’ll probably knockout the Platinum with this little player base boost. The main campaign is worth the pocket change alone, but the real flaws came in the live-service promises that were absolutely not met. I think Spider-Man exclusivity also played a big factor in turning off players from the jump. Also it’s not well streamlined at all but the PLAY NOW button actually takes you straight to end campaign status whereas what new players should be doing is Operations, then Reassemble to begin the vanilla Campaign and proceeding DLC.
I started after the final patch and the play now Spoiled the whole plot for me because the main menu is confusing. I watched videos of the game while grinding the plat and they were 2 years old and nearly all the issues I’d had were in those video 🤪
Eidos only assisted in development, they were focused on Guardians of the Galaxy at the time. This was a Crystal Dynamics game. Thankfully that means that Eidos still hasn't ever made a bad game.
I actually enjoyed the first hour or two of the game. They lost when after you first become hulk, it turns into what everyone hates about it. It had so much potential to be a great single player experience, but they decided to try to milk it and they failed miserably
To be honest and fair they do offer you like better gear at every battle at the beginning so you can power up in the beginning and as you progress it gets harder of course and the equipment as well becomes rarer and the stats of them are somewhat important to the character, and the mission that was short it was just a mission for resources, not saying the games is great but just giving you the full context
I picked it up at the $4 price point, and having all DLC and Cosmetics I’d say it was worth the $4. Is it the best game I’ve ever played? No, but there absolutely is fun to be had here. You can play the game completely single player and it makes it an even more enjoyable experience. The characters themselves have their own way of gameplay which doesn’t dull out their inevitable introduction. The game itself is beautiful. If you look past everything that originally came with (or lack there of) the game then you can learn to appreciate it now that it’s de-listed. It could’ve been so much more, but for $4, if you’re looking to kill time and just want some mindless fun, you’ll find it here.
I honestly enjoyed my time playing this. The heroes played differently and the story missions were quite fun for a marvel game 🎮 I now look forward to future games that learn from this one particularly Suicide Squad I really hope that game learns alot.
If they had actually used the license/IP properly and in the right gaming format this should have been the biggest thing since Spiderman on PS4. Such a giant waste of potential! It’s sad af!
Good. Cape crap is cringe now and the hype from the movies died down. That, and the game was live service cancer. Everything about it was repulsive from every angle.
It’s a shame really. If the devs had spent more time on it than letting it be out in stores with all the bugs and glitches, we would’ve had something great.
They spent plenty of time on it. Unfortunately, most of that time was used to figure out how to monetize every aspect of the game in lieu of making something people would want to play.
The failure of the live service approach always overshadows how incredible each character plays with their own unique combat styles and abilities. There's a fantastic game buried under bad strategic decisions and a joke of a live service model. For $3.99, if you have any interest in Marvel characters in a third person brawler, you will absolutely get your value and then some. Or just save your money for Spider-Man 2.
@@Mike_Dubayou at the end of the day the game released during the height of covid and gave me something to do, i was less claiming I didn’t enjoy the game and more saying hindsight is 20/20. Appreciate your imput
Got this in a bundle with the GotG game, $34 for both games. Spent 17 hours in the main story, beat it. It was fine. Spent a couple hours in the online and uninstalled. Game doesn't feel good. The mission selection could've been more clear. If you're a marvel fan, a collector that likes to have delisted games in their library then $4 is worth it.
I got it when it went on sale for 4 dollars and I can see why it was so bad, it's sad to say it cause it looks good but it doesn't keep my attention at all unfortunately
Gamers have phones if they wantes to play mobile game they would play mobile games. They bought gaming machines because they wanted more. So dont make your big budget game like a mobile game.
I have no idea why, but so many people are constantly mixing Eidos and Crystal Dynamics xD This game is mainly developed by CD, Eidos just helped. Eidos on the other hand made absolute banger of a game Guardians of the Galaxy which sadly was not success because how MEH Avengers were. Which mean there are now 2 amazing IPs that Eidos may not ever finish..
Just a heads up, that first multiplayer mission on Quick Match was a drop zone mission(?) and those are made to be extremely fast little “jump in jump out” missions. That being said, I have NO IDEA why, and I hated them.
Honestly even ignoring the repetitive live service slop, just the fact that they locked literally the most popular marvel superhero in history away for only playstation players made this a dealbreaker. I dont like buying a game, then immediately being reminded in menus about how I'm missing some content, or need to spend more money to get X or Y. That empty slot in the character selection where spiderman should be is blatantly obvious. Also the characters they felt the need to add... really? Kate freaking bishop, jane foster and kamalah kahn...? A bunch of modern z list nobodies who dont sell? Instead of ghost rider, blade, doctor strange, storm, wolverine, sandman, daredevil, she hulk, deadpool, and namor?? Theres a MILLION better characters who could be put in an avengers game over those bland nobodies. At 4 dollars it's still a definite NO.
The problem wasn’t the story but the extremely repetitive gameplay and micro transactions were on steroids. Potential was there. But man the repetitive gameplay, boring missions, honestly the campaign is fine but the rest is so bad.
It's like the Galactic Republic transitioning to the Empire when it failed to fulfil the decent player base. Reminds me of Star Wars. While other games outside Disney reminds me of the Rebellion.

The boss fights were very enjoyable. Like Luke said this is a gorgeous game. The graphics of Marvel's Avengers is one of the best looking video games I've ever played. So if any one who hasn't played this game, give a shot. I think you will have a great time playing it. After all you get all those goodies for only four dollars.
That's the weakest praise I've ever heard for a game. I'd be more impressed if they somehow made Hulk and Iron Man play the same
the intro was the best part and went down hill fast after that
@@buggart when the game first came out, I can’t do thought that’s what it would be, and when you play the campaign in the beginning, it kind of felt like it would be like that, but it never turned out
Also a gear system that doesn't even change how the characters look.
The original beta of the game made me experience something I've never experienced in any other media: motion sickness and headaches within minutes of playing, i was so baffled and confused that happened to me
I can see that. Too much motion blur + all those floaty and moving, round icons. It was irritating me in new ways just watching this footage.
The full game with every feature for 4$ I feel like is worth it to fans. Even if you just play the prologue it can be worth it.
It's funny to look at game footage for 1 second and simultaneously feel, "Wow, that looks like they spent a lot of money on it!" and "It's completely soulless."
Did you play it? The game has the same quality as spiderman 2018. And that won game of the year.
@@alexwilliams4729lol dude we don’t have to lie.
@@osc-oldschoolclips5204they played the whole game of Spiderman without their prescription glasses, that's wild must have been a challenge run
And titanfall is almost a decade old
I couldn't even be asked to buy the game despite its crazy price drop. I still can't imagine it being worth it.
I didn’t have much expectations for this game but I was amazed how good the game looks. I was able to pick it up for $7 and managed to put a good amount of hours into it. Got my money’s worth for the content I got.
What you can learn from the video game industry is that "Patience is a virtue."
At this point in 2023 you're basically a beta tester paying $70 for the privilege of playing while the bugs are being fixed. Just waiting about 2-5 years for a massive sale has been the best decision I made in gaming.
@@l0rf some games are worth full price though.
No joke if this game was a mix between Arkham knight and ultimate alliance it would be the best game ever
The saddest part is that Guardians of the galaxy game (which was miles better) sold less than expected because people thought its gonna be another Avengers live service so we're never gonna get a sequel
Quick Cons and Pros List:
Cons- 1.
Luke "at this point its anathema to gamers"
Me in my Seinfeld voice "how long you been waiting to squeeze that into a conversation" 😅
How tf did you get it for £3? When I looked at the store yesterday it was full price...
@@mattandrews2594Got it for 3£ from Gamesplanet UK before it was delisted. I haven't activated it yet😂.
DSPs next stream will be him banning people for not donating 4 dollars so he could buy this game
@@SamsonTheHamster I already see a new ItsAGundam video in the works
I bought it for $4.25 with tax. That’s about how much it’s worth.
But i definitely think this is like a solid 6 or 7 /10
It’s a serviceable button masher
Yea the costumes wasn't all their when the game came out and the number of characters
lol is terrible and repetitive
I've always wanted a remake of Marvel Nemesis, still one of my favorite fighting games!
Same Me to I hope they remake marvel nemesis it will get billions of dollars
That and matrix path of neo
The gear actually meant something in this game based off the gear u choose to use that starts to build your character how you want
God, you really had to scrape the barrel for that compliment. Any game with borderlands esc gear will let you play how you want to. The problem is not playing the game is more fun than any build you can make.
why would i want to play with different builds, if i want be stealthy i choose a stealthy character
All I Gotta say is
R.I.P. my dad’s $60
I started after the final patch and the play now
Spoiled the whole plot for me because the main menu is confusing.
I think insomniac needs to make an avenger's game
I actually enjoyed the first hour or two of the game. They lost when after you first become hulk, it turns into what everyone hates about it. It had so much potential to be a great single player experience, but they decided to try to milk it and they failed miserably
Does this mean it will be open for modding and such? That would be awesome!
The main problem i had with gear is it wasn’t cosmetic
hahahaha DSP getting clowned on by Luke is fantastic.
Worst thing is that this studio could have developed next Deus Ex game instead of this abomination for Marvel manchildren.
At least you can still keep on playing it. Removing the micro transactions helped a lot with my enjoyment of the game
It was from Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal did the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
I honestly enjoyed my time playing this. The heroes played differently and the story missions were quite fun for a marvel game 🎮
I now look forward to future games that learn from this one particularly Suicide Squad
I really hope that game learns alot.
If they had actually used the license/IP properly and in the right gaming format this should have been the biggest thing since Spiderman on PS4. Such a giant waste of potential! It’s sad af!
high key the campaign was surprisingly good. It's worth getting on the cheap just to play through the campaign once. I was pleasantly surprised by it
if i have no life like you maybe
@@darugdawg2453 yeah precisely
As soon as they jammed in that stupid marvel girl i knew it was dead
Good. Cape crap is cringe now and the hype from the movies died down. That, and the game was live service cancer. Everything about it was repulsive from every angle.
modern gaming companies when they release a game where the only thing the player can do is spend money and the player doesnt spend money: 🙀🙀🙀💀👻
It’s a shame really. If the devs had spent more time on it than letting it be out in stores with all the bugs and glitches, we would’ve had something great.
100% agreed
nah it should've been a full single player experience with a mode like mercenaries from resident evil added later.
The main story is amazing and the gameplay itself is awesome. Every character is different and plays great. The problem is the terrible post game.
Their biggest mistake was not making it PvP
I still remember paying full price for the preorder, id love my $60 back 😭
Hot take…..if you waste money on preorders, your money deserves to be wasted. Stop contributing to the problem!
Hopefully you learned to stop pre-ordering games.
How many times we need to remind people, not to pre-order the game as if the game 'runs out of stock'.
@@Mike_Dubayou at the end of the day the game released during the height of covid and gave me something to do, i was less claiming I didn’t enjoy the game and more saying hindsight is 20/20. Appreciate your imput
Never. Preorder. Never.
I wanted to try it…but as soon as I seen it was a Live Service game I didn’t give it any attention.
I waited sooooo long for this game… then it came out and broke my heart lol
I got it when it went on sale for 4 dollars and I can see why it was so bad, it's sad to say it cause it looks good but it doesn't keep my attention at all unfortunately
Gamers have phones if they wantes to play mobile game they would play mobile games. They bought gaming machines because they wanted more.
So dont make your big budget game like a mobile game.
Watching service games like this fall down is so satisfyinh
I have no idea why, but so many people are constantly mixing Eidos and Crystal Dynamics xD This game is mainly developed by CD, Eidos just helped. Eidos on the other hand made absolute banger of a game Guardians of the Galaxy which sadly was not success because how MEH Avengers were. Which mean there are now 2 amazing IPs that Eidos may not ever finish..
the DSP refrence made me laugh so much lmaooo
I preordered this game for $80 on google stadia...................life lesson learned.
17:00 Well that was a big shock for me too. Cant believe they thought that was a good gameplay loop.
Pfffff I'm not going to buy it for $4. I'm just going to simply Pirated it. Since it's no longer listed anywhere anyway.
As a super hero fan this was fun to play with, with my brother and friends. More villains we care about was needed, but overall enjoyed it.
6:14... wait... what?... 😆
I don't know which is worst. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 or Marvel's Avengers.
your room makes your videos 2times better
The problem wasn’t the story but the extremely repetitive gameplay and micro transactions were on steroids. Potential was there. But man the repetitive gameplay, boring missions, honestly the campaign is fine but the rest is so bad.
They make this garbage but then also produced Guardians of the Galaxy thats a near masterpiece
It will be forgotten in a week, remembered in a youtube video and rediscovered in a flea market
I love the DSP name drop. I about spit my water out....haha
Damn that edit on the dog was cold af
Still a bit steep. $2.99, and I'm sold!
It's like the Galactic Republic transitioning to the Empire when it failed to fulfil the decent player base. Reminds me of Star Wars.
While other games outside Disney reminds me of the Rebellion.
This game also affected the Guardian of the Galaxy game…
@17:06 "That was somethin else, I'll tell you what." Amen brother.
Imagine you are the guy who got this for full price and the next day its 4 dollars lol.
The dumbest thing I’ve ever done was pay 84 dollars for this game
Shoot. The X-Box store has the Definitive Edition for $39.99. I'd jump in for 4 dollars no problem, but 40 bucks? Gotta pass at that price.
"it's about to disappear"
Nobody at all even remembered this was a thing lol
