    I added a medium sized turbo to my ND mx5 with an electronic boost controller to keep the waste gate spring from opening before reaching peek boost and because of the high compression 13:1 it gets spooled up pretty fast its only five to 6 psi which keeps the air cooler, the downside is that they are not good for making huge power and it doesn't have forged connecting rods.

    What about a compound turbo setup?

  • @C303ofSweden
    @C303ofSweden 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's better to have a bit too small compressor housing than a too small tubine housing.
    You can push the rpm on the shaft a bit to get the extra flow but with a risk of surge and othe issues. But with a too small turbine housing it acts lika a exhaust brake. When back pressure goes above the the boost target it will not generate more power.

    Give a simple analogy.
    Say, try to blow a sandwich bag as blowing a garbage bag.
    How many times will you inhale and exhale (intake/exhaust) before you can fill the bag with air?
    At the same token, small turbo will run out of breath in no time while big turbo has more air at the later time.
    The moral of story is, YOU CANNOT GET TWO THINGS AT THE SAME TIME.
    There is always a trade of.

    I have a jzx100( 1JZ GTE ) and i'm deciding if should get a medium size turbo or a larger turbo.

    • @burnz3132
      @burnz3132 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Base it off the power you want. Sizing appropriately to the build is what this is trying to get across. So saying I have a 1j and what turbo should I use… gives little insight into what you’re doing. Drag? Well… are staying stock block? Giving a HP goal will allow for actual math and science to give ya a few sizes.

    K03 + G25/550 right turbo dor compound set up??

    • @burnz3132
      @burnz3132 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      K03 would have exhaust flow issues with compounding anything over 400hp so you’d want to really open up that exhaust and WG plunger. But would be a killer on lower end torque up to 9k! Rod bending ability setup for sure!

      @ What is the best turbo to match with g25/550 for compound turbo set up?

      @@djlai4099 what size motor are we talking?

    • @burnz3132
      @burnz3132 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@djlai4099 I ask cause if we’re talkin 1.3L-1.6L I’d say a ported K03 with 3” out to the G25 works (Hot side). But I believe the G25 is a 2” or 2.5” outlet (cold side feeding into the K03) . Which into the K03 is probably big for the K03 (“basic” rule of thumb is same size outlet of bigger turbo into intake of smaller. So at its smallest I believe it’s 1.5”-1.75”). So k04 would probably be better. With the two compounded you’re bottom end is gonna need some serious work! High boost at low RMP’s will bend ish quick! All the TT I6/ V6 guys have learned that lesson from bigger stock turbos. But if you’re in the 1.8L-2.5’ish area, then…. I’d get the biggest G25 (I think it’s a 660, maybe even a small G30) and pair it with a 300hp-360hp capable turbo. But make sure it can utilize either the 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust size that feeds the bigger turbo (also do V-band!! Flanges crack). But that way you’re less likely too kill a already quick spooling turbo. You’ll want to be able to rev that thing SAFELY to 8k+rpm (for any type racing: Drag, Autocross, hill climb, etc…). Mostly cause you’ll have a nice wide power band and you’ll want to utilize it! Power comes on more like a centrifugal SC, but has the back half of a turbo car!! At least if done and tuned correctly, lol. Also this is for NOT diesel’s, different ways to go about it on any TDi!! So Gas only… whether it be 89-93, E85-9x, straight ethanol, or methanol. That said there’s a really good reason why turbo cars have been outlawed from Top Fuel racing so look into that if using any exotic fuels with turbos!!! Not saying it can’t be done or used but there’s things to consider to do it safely.

    Factory turbo just for HP they want that's it responsive because of its size inefficient can't be tuned up and live not like a TDO5H MHI turbo look how big TDO5H line there is one of the best factory long lasting turbo. Evon9 for the win GM turbos are dog 💩 they don't use them in heavy equipment because they won't last. Garrett good just GM wanted to small of a turbo = heat to much rmp for the turbo if you turn it up.

      Im sorry, but it was hard to understand what you were trying to say. But you realize GM turbo's are all MHI, Garrets, and Borg Warners, right? GM themselves doesn't make turbos.
