Very good video. I enjoy learning history and facts. This was fascinating to watch. Please keep producing these sorts of videos. Thanks for a great video and thank you for your hard work.
Loved this show as a kid (still as an adult) I actually ran the locomotives @ the now defunct AstroWorld in Houston, TX. as well as "hobby scale" live steam locomotives. I sang the theme song at my church & a parody of it at the themed park. It was "tailored" to AstroWorld. LOL! A very wholesome show indeed. One of the girls that was in the show could actually run the Cannonball. Another "side note" Is that the custom built locos @ AstroWorld (Harpur Locomotive Works) was actually nicknamed "Cannonball" while the other one was "Spit fire" Cannonball is now in Northern, CA @ a winery. Spit fire belongs to a private owner. My mom often used Tide detergent.
Love shows with original commercials. Sometimes they would have dialogue that would mirror what was going on plot wise on that week's episode. On the Lilt commercial, the woman on the right is Dena Dietrich I think her name was. Years later she was the Chiffon Margarine Mother Nature lady, remember her? -- "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature". In those days the sponsor's product photo was shown onscreen with the credits, but when the reruns hit syndication the product pictures were removed.
In the 1960s, believe it or not the girls on Petticoat Junction and on the opening credits when they are bathing in the town's water tank (how the hell did the Hooterville Dept. of Health approve that?), that was considered "racy" at that time. Also, the name of the town "Hooterville" is a double entendre but of course they never really talked about the name on the show. Other than a handful of 50s-60s shows, most shows had a mix of young and elderly characters whereas now it's mostly just young.
I loved watching this show growing up in the 60's! Fast forward 55 years, I downloaded the theme song and train whistle as my phone ringer.😀
I've been trying to get the theme song and train whistle for my mom's cell phone ringtone! :)
Don't stop your getting there!
Petticoat Junction was a staple in my household for seven years.
I loved this show growing up in the 60s! I used to act out the episodes. Thanks for the memory of a tv show from my childhood! Love your channel!
Thank you, Carolyn! I’m glad this brought back some memories!
