about the "best interpreter" thing. It isn't really a 1 to 1 thing when translating. A dozen people can translate the same paragraph and it can be pretty different, depending on the language. So not only do they need to find an interpreter who understands baseball, is willing to travel, but they also need to understand the kind of Japanese that Ohtani speaks(think regional dialects). Just like soda is used in one part of the united states where pop is used elsewhere. It isn't that simple and you can't just call up a place requesting a great interpreter.
So they're trying to do multiple things at once while also being in a very stressful situation(on camera/speaking to people). They have to parse what Ohtani says, try to understand what he means and how he would say it in english, then they have to reform what Ohtani said in english all while being on the spot. It isn't an easy job at all.

Double comment on this video but I think this raises a pretty important rule when it comes to sports and betting. How did nobody notice this for so long? Someone very close to a professional athlete, possibly the athlete themselves, ran up a 4+million dollar betting tab and NOBODY seems to have cared? It's hilarious how rampant betting obviously is across all pro sports but we act like nobody is doing it. lol.
