Is it blasphemous of me to say that the 1987 version of "Hello Melbourne" was better than anything made in 1986?

Remind me what the differences between 1986 and 1987 versions were ?

@emucentral The 1987 jingle used an updated melody to the 1986 jingle.
There was also the earlier variation, used in 1985.

If you look at the first of these Hello melbourne Id's from Australia like me you'll probably notice that the the pet vet in it holding the wombat looks a little like a young Dr.Shepherd played by Patrick Dempsey on Grey's Anatomy which BTW aired in Oz on Channel 7 but with thick glasses.

Seems very Seventies...and very American - so I am not surprised at all.

@@saxongreen78 It was a "Hello" promotional campaign developed by a US company.
Numerous TV stations in America (and elsewhere) bought the rights. Seven Melbourne also bought the package.
I edited a number of these "Station IDs" when I worked at Channel 7, we saw samples of the American versions "Hello Pittsburgh" & others. Every TV market localised their own versions. It's like "Eyewitness News" and other corporate & product branding packages.
Ours differed a little in style to be more in keeping with local tastes. The song was recorded locally - one of John Farnham's backing singers, from memory. It was a lot of fun putting these promos and station ID's together. Nowadays you can't "waste" 30 seconds on a station ID as that cuts down on how many TV commercials you can show !!!

It originally started with Milwaukee, but expanded to dozens of cities across the U.S. This also includes non-U.S. locations such as Calgary, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Toowoomba (I hope I spelled it correctly)

      @@jezzd4116 Good on you Jezz.
As we didn't have a list of kids wagging school that day, we were able to use the pictures!!
Glad you got "immortalised" in the Channel 7 Station ID.
I used to love working on these.
