The dancing that Travolta and the short guy on the right that started it was amazing. Urban Cowboy was my mom's favorite movie and I can't help feel a little sad whenever I rewatch it because she passed away a few years back.
I think about my Mom and first stepdad when I see this movie. They were going out dancing a lot at the time, got matching shirts, all of it. Brings back great memories. My stepdad died years ago and Mom is 83 and has balance issues and can't dance anymore, so I get a little wistful thinking about it. The fellow on the right is "Gilleyrat" Gator Conley, and he was one of, if not THE best dancer at Gilley's. He can really cut a rug and appears a lot in the movie!
John Travolta dancing in any film, is just so great to watch. He loves it, works at it, and makes it look so much fun. Any dance in any film he has done, is great.
Pasadena, TX. My Mom was born and raised half mile From Gilley's. TX has a feeling all it's own.. Anyway, My Mom and Dad met much the same way. They lasted about 6 yrs, but I'm here :-) good heartfelt memories
Angie Peoples I'm with you there this country today is not country it will never be country give me some Conway Twitty and some Buck Owens LOL now that's country
Yes that's exactly what I was thinking. Country music has changed so much. I was just listening to Eddie Rabbitt's Driving My Life away and it sounded sooooo good.
The cowboy craze hit us hard here in Kansas after this movie came out. I was in Junior High. Even the girls wanted the dip can ring mark in their back pocket!
The violin was prevalent among rural American communities.Settlers played "HOEDOWNS" on their fiddles for dancing. Hoedowns were derived from reels and hornpipes--dance music forms of the British Isles. Irish jigs, Scottish schottisches (a possible antecedent to the swing rhythm), and central European waltzes also would be performed at parties. The best dance fiddlers were able to produce a diverse array of rhythmic feels to satisfy to satisfy partygoers.
WanderleiSilva29 I have known people like that if you did something they did it faster or in a more dangerous place, I told a guy about when I was working on a old hot rod of mine it back fired and burned the hair off my friends arm, well he had same thing done except he was set on fire and had to jump in river to save his life
That's why Bud saying "I'm prideful and hard-headed." "You can ride that bull whenever you want" at the end of the movie was his character coming to a complete arc by realizing that you don't have to be prideful and stubborn to be a man. That's how he lost Sissy and he wasn't going to do that to her anymore after seeing how bad things got with their relationship and after Uncle Bob's passing were when he allowed himself to not let that cloud his better judgement.
This movie marked the end of Travolta's hot streak that started with Saturday Night Fever. After this his career hit a major slump that lasted most of the 1980s.
i feel like i'm watching pulp fiction again. nice bit of editing. i like how you synced the original recording over the movie soundtrack just as it was played in the film. the result is great audio matched perfectly with vincent vega doing his well-executed disco country dance. royale with cheese!
I'm Mexican and this movie's songs make my body get up and start dancing. They don't play this music anywhere in the city of Chicago. Used to be out in the suburbs, but everything is getting urbanized now ):

He definitely was gifted a talent
That was one of his first talents as a child, and he carried it a long way. He's a quick study, and has great form. Love my Johnny T!!!!!

It’s called bubblegum pop country and makes me sick!!! Give me the old days from 1980’s on down to 1920’s.
Angie Peoples I'm with you there this country today is not country it will never be country give me some Conway Twitty and some Buck Owens LOL now that's country

You gotta love the orange blossom special!

Anyone ever notice how anytime someone gets attention from something, whether its bull riding, step dancing, etc, that Bud has to best it?
WanderleiSilva29 His name in the movie, Bud was taken from his full name, Buford Union Davis.
WanderleiSilva29 I have known people like that if you did something they did it faster or in a more dangerous place, I told a guy about when I was working on a old hot rod of mine it back fired and burned the hair off my friends arm, well he had same thing done except he was set on fire and had to jump in river to save his life
that's pretty funny.....
Because he could
That's why Bud saying "I'm prideful and hard-headed." "You can ride that bull whenever you want" at the end of the movie was his character coming to a complete arc by realizing that you don't have to be prideful and stubborn to be a man. John Travolta was an amazing dancer then, I wonder what it would have been like if patrick swayze and john travolta had a dance off

it's true Jhon Travolta is a really good dancer I'm so in love with both!! RIP Patrick.
Too bad we'll never see them compete together on Dancing with the Stars. The otherswould have thrown it in on night one.
Stop.. Travolta would get the W.
Patrick’s mom choreographed this dance sequence with Gator for John to dance to.

SISSY IS SO COOL
Wes Hightower was one mean Sumbean !
I used to have the biggest crush on Scott Glenn because of this movie
FINE!!!...... FER--GET IT!!!!
Sissy was spunky granted but Pam's daddy was "oil and all that implies."
I think Pam was best, but just needed a cowboy to tame her ways and keep it classy.
IKR?
I swear this shit makes wanna dance so bad
Now, that's dancing! Not like the twerking and crap you see today!
Grease is also good ,,but I am talking about today,,making a film where he dances.
