You are one of the best bushcrafter /survivalist on you tube. I love that you do it without $150 hatchets, expensive carbon fiber canoes, $500 custom knives, fancy pants that I can't spell and big dollar titanium everything, you are the real deal. I hope more people subscribe to be able to support more of these amazing videos, and buy your books. :)
Could not agree more, no disrespect at all for the earlier bush crafters, I stopped subscribing to some of them a year ago. Justin has shown more of how I relate to the woods and his more rustic style is to me more authentic and only getting better. Show your support and get someone younger the book, treat them to a great culture.
Same here t takes me away from negativity and puts me in a positive mindset knowing going out in nature is what makes me happy. Away from the problems of reality and materialism. I am very grateful justin. Keep doing what you love. Hi saku my canine friend 🐕
Hey man. Love your videos. I’m 18 years from Alberta and have always had a love for the outdoors. Use to play hockey but since I quit I lost a lot of connections I once had. Not many of my friends are Into this sort of thing(hiking, fishing, camping etc)however, Your videos have really inspired me to get out and do what I love regardless of other people. Keep up the great work!
What no fishing? That's OK, a little hunting is a nice change. Besides it won't be long before the water turns hard ..... then ice fishing 😀. You are certainly blessed by the generosity of your subscribers .... beautiful gifts. Lastly, Saku likes to jump on the bed ..... too funny. Thank you for sharing, God Bless, Greg
I'm 67 years old and have had my share of adventures and have had numerous dogs. Saku is a great dog, like the labs I've had, great bonders, loyal, affectionate, obedient, love to please...Saku is pure classic. So I love your videos, not just because of the dogs, but they (Bear and Saku) are major players, (esp Saku). Cook more, prep food more. Let us enjoy the culinary experience, but thank you for the background music, the dogs, the experience of the journey. Absolutely great videos.
Thank you for all your hard work and keeping things real, showing that you do not need a lot of hi doller gear to have a good time in the woods and enjoy the outdoors. You have a great way of showing how to do real bush skills.
Very nicely done! Really enjoyed all the fine extra-close-up footage you took, like starting the Birch bark/ferro rod fire, bushcrafting that awesome spatula, the zoomed-in shot of the Grouse n' Cranberries wild edibles meal sizzling in your cast iron skillet (mmmm!!), to list just a few examples - fantastic!). Nice score on the 3 Ruffies, and awesome footage of those 'bou in such a beautiful autumn setting. Loved your shelter build w/the raised bed and tarp set-up, and that smoking-hot, full tang scandi Bushlore-style dream bushcraft knife that Tom Weldon sent you; wow, bro, doesn't get much better than that!! A truly grand time of year to be out in the wilds, isn't it. Best wishes for your November 'bou hunt. Thanks Justin, for putting together such an enjoyable vid.Take care out there, and God bless.
Thank you so much for sharing with us. Your unassuming yet highly skilled (and often poetic) way of sharing with us is at once soothing, engaging, and motivating. I appreciate you, and the warm camaraderie you share with Saku too! Looking forward to your future videos. Be safe! 💐
Zaku is a fine dog and a great friend god bless him. You won’t find a cat in the world that will offer such companionship and join you in the hunt! I cook my birds in cast iron it’s the way to go. Still enjoying all of your videos friend, good fortune to you and zaku.
I love these long videos. When you're saying Sak...it sounds like Zach... my youngest sons name. My oldest Ben is 41. Zach is 37. I love the outdoors. I took my sons camping, fishing and hiking when I was younger. My youngest still enjoys the outdoors. The oldest one, not so much. Those caribou are beautiful. I sure hope when you went back you got one for your freezer. I love caribou backstrap tacos.
Great upload! Saku always amazes me such a great temperament can be a working dog when the time comes and a right sook when its time to relax. Keep up the great work truly look forward to your videos.
From Marystown, great watch bud. Been a rough year for me, your vids have been inspiring to get me back to who I used to be. You're doing more good than you know, keep it up :)
Thanks Matthew. Really appreciate that comment buddy. Glad to hear all is well. Not that I can relate or know what's up but going back outdoors 7 or 8 years ago brought me back to who I was. So cheers to being the best we can. Take care. I'll be at the Burin Lions Club for a talk Dec 4th. 7:30-9pm. Love to see ya there

I love everything from start to finish. Food looks terrific & tasty. Saku enjoys the quietness of the forest & just being with you and nature. I love the fire burning in the dark.
That was worth watching just to see the grouse and berries in the pan, good eats! I liked the scenes you filmed while paddling the canoe. It was so quiet and peaceful except for the gentle sound of the paddle in the water.
Nice video man. Can't believe you haven't got more subscribers than you do. Must be youtube PS: my dog Fenrir loves your videos. Be posting a video on my FB soon

Hey Justin, I’ve read your book “Man and Dog Through The NewFoundLand Wilderness” which was an absolute PAGE TURNER! I read it in about 12 hours! Great book! Maybe I missed in your book. I’ll reread it again soon. But when I look up the name Saku it only gives me a Japanese language reference meaning “Remembrance of the Lord” not that I’m anti religious or anything because I’m not. But I thought most likely his name was a reference connected to NewFoundLand or Labrador. Could you please let me know? I’ve watched this video maybe 20 times. For some reason I just love it. I’m 52 and you camp a lot like I do. Just throw up a tarp or the tent, build a fire and that’s home! Thank you for all your hard work! We both know it ain’t as easy as you make it look!
Some glad i found this channel, your the real deal justin, good looking feed of caplin and tur with gravy would be good, trying to binge watch all your videos during this covid-19, hope to see alot more after all this is over with, good luck young feller.
Can't beat a nice fire in the great outdoors. The peaceful solitude of nature and the added bonus of wildlife is good for the soul. Guess you got your caribou by now. That knife is a great skinning knife. All good.
You sure made the grouse hunt look easy, I didn’t even see one this season. LOL. I did try a similar couple days looking to fish and hunt small game for my meals. This was inspired by you, in my case I was lucky I packed in so much food, because I did not get one fish nor one animal. Ha ha ha
Now,My Friday night viewing material has been released, shortly my week of hell will be washed away in some far away place! Thanks Justin, for the perfect prescription!
Righteous camp and loved the caribou. We have woodland caribou around here in eastern Manitoba but would be surprised if there are much more than a few hundred. Have seen their tracks and scat but that's about it! Sweet knife alright!
We took a whale-watching trip on a zodiac out of Trinity a few years back and the operator treated us to some fried capelin back on shore. Best snack ever.
Justin, Try this when you shoot your next grouse: Lay the grouse on its back, spread the wings out, put one of you feet on each of the wings, right close to the body of the bird, and pull the legs of the bird upwards. The head comes through the bird and pulls all of the entrails with it. There is never much meat on the wings so I just forget about them but if you want you can then clean up the legs. You need a pair of pliers with a wire cutter to cut the wings off of the breast. The breast is clean but with no skin. It saves having to pluck the whole damn bird and you then have the breast and legs to cook. It takes about 5 seconds to clean a grouse this way.
Also, I laughed when I saw you bite into that Spruce Grouse. They are not as tasty as a Rough Grouse. The Rough Grouse has white meat and it is a lot better tasting than the dark meat of a Spruce Grouse. Spruce Grouse taste like pine trees and frankly, I don't like eating them but will if that is all I have to eat. Because I am not familiar with the birds on the Rock, I am not sure that you even have Rough Grouse there, but I would be surprised if you don't.
Another awesome video Justin , great to see the comfort of the woods once again and I could almost smell the coffee from the tv. Thanks once again for signing both of my books , go habs go .
that was a great trip in the woods. grouse, terr and fried bannock great meal. that's a great looking knife and sheath, nice work. nasty weather you had going home.the winter is setting in. good luck on the caribou. take care
