Parents have good reason to believe their child has walked to school alone because they told them to do that, and they are coming home at the end of each school day. There is usually a general path they take to get to school so a parent has lines of inquiries if their child goes missing. Therefore, I wouldn't say that was reckless endangerment given how important schooling is. But in this case, the mother didn't know where her 10 year old son had gone for that period of time. The boy did, the police did but the mother didn't. That's not very good communication at the very least.

In the future they are planning to hide their rule behind an alleged "AI", just as they do today behind an alleged democracy. In the past they were supposedly chosen to rule by God, then by the people, and in the future the AI will crown them rulers... In truth, however, nothing has changed since the first advanced civilizations, which also had a ruling caste, a monetary system, and poor workers, farmers, etc. The nobility and the king in the Middle Ages were just robbers who stole the farmers' produce, which was the reason for the extreme poverty of the farmers and the population. It is the same today.

You might think it's ridiculous but the authorities receive far too many reports of missing children and attempted kidnappings. If a person with no desire for accountability had kidnapped a 10 year old child walking on their own without having communicated to their parents where they were going, the mother would have no general location to look first to assist the authorities. I get the whole benefits of 'free ranging' children and independence building, but part of growing up is being accountable and a child who goes out without the parent's knowledge of where is not facilitating that. Therefore, a parent can not make the final decisions about their child's safety if they don't even know where they are.

As children, sometimes even younger than 10, I remember spending summers outside all day and until after the sun went down, at which time we would play flashlight tag. Of course, I would go in for dinner when I was hungry but then leave again to meet neighborhood kids down the street or at the park where we would turn trees trees and bushes into bases for playing baseball. I'm talking about short periods like running to the corner gas station grabbing an item and returning immediately. No dilly dallying around. Like it's raining n cold but you ran out of milk to make supper. So rather than drag them out in the cold wet you run to the neighborhood gas station grab milk and come right back. It's legal here. May or may not be recommended but it's not illegal. So certainly a 10 almost 11yr old should be able to walk to the neighborhood store. I met 3 young boys dining parentless together at a table next to me while on my lunch break. They were between the ages of 10-13, saved and counted their dollar bills and paid for their entire meal after they finished and walked home. We need to teach our children to be strong, courageous, wise, and respectful. Unfortunately, there will always be sick criminals out there. THEY should be the ones living in fear of punishment for any crimes committed, not the community nor innocent young people learning responsibility and independence.

What a waste of tax payers money . Bad judgement by the officer . What an idiot . If it’s really illegal, just a card and number through the letterbox would’ve been enough . I hope this officer gets sanctioned for this misuse of police authority. Maybe the child just needed to be told , always let Mom know where you’re going , or you must get permission first . It’s really snowballed and it’s a huge cost to the county.

She didn't do anything wrong, when. I was 10, my babysitter was a 100 pound bulldog. I would ride my bike to the store down hwy 80 and my dog dutches would follow me. I'd go swimming at the local lake with no supervision, except for Dutches. I'm 53 now and 3 months ago I was kayaking and fell out of the kayak. Almost drowned. It took me 45 minutes to swim back to shore. I had a lifejacket on. Or else I may not have made it. The problem is that I live with my 86 year old mother. My question is should I sue my mom for neglect? Or just report her to the police.

Trying to pry their hands off their phones to get instruction is a never-ending job. They rarely want to do physical things like skating, mall shopping, hiking, walking, etc, and don't even mention riding a bike, lol. The preferred activities are usually indoors....sitting. And don't call it " generational warfare" 😅..labeling people born in different eras as "Gen X or Gen Z" is an easy way to differentiate a groups' age range, and life experiences, as well as general upbringing and societal norms for that era. Makes sense to me...and a lot of other people, or this designations wouldn't exist.

Totally absurd. I sure hope they build some more jails because I'm pretty sure the police are going to be pretty busy rounding up all the parents who's kids are walking to a friend's house, being sent to the corner store or god forbid walking two miles to school because they live too close for the bus to pick them up. What a waste of taxpayers money. Now there's the real crime.
