Andre the Giant spent only about 1% of his entire career as a heel, but every time I see a picture of him in a thumbnail, it's a heel picture. For those of us who are old enough to remember him well, that is not the Andre we knew and loved.
That is actually a good point, never really thought about that. Actually Afro Andre with shorts was my favorite, unfortunately couldn’t find any great pictures there.
The Giant was during the Nitro days, so into his 40s which is pretty impressive. The hip damage is a lot from the leg drops, which doesnt look like a painful move but wrecks havoc on the hips.
Possibly Yokozuna as well. I remember Hogan had an impromptu match for the WWF championship at Wrestlemania one year. Hogan came out after Yoko beat Bret Hart for the championship, and Mr. Fuji issued a challenge to Hogan to wrestle Yoko for the just won WWF championship. (Of course, Hogan won.)
One of my early wrestlemania memories, probably because of the Cesar’s Palace stage. If I remember correctly he beat Yokozuna, but didn’t slam him that day, but I might be wrong. Haven’t watched the match in ages.
@@howstrongis No slam in that match. It was a short match. Fuji tried to throw salt in Hogan's eyes, but Hogan got out of the way, and Yoko got the salt. That led to the big boot and leg drop combo. At the rematch at that summer's King of the Ring, Hogan tried to slam Yoko twice but couldn't lift him.
I used for his weight multiple sources like old matches, wiki and cagematch. On some he was even listed as 400 so no one really knows beside One Man himself.
The later one :) Think Bruno managed to slam him, but with the older matches there is almost zero to none material unfortunately. Would have loved to include something
That’s a fair point and the best comparison I have ever heard :) I meant in terms of agility, not so much about safety. So rather the same car, but one is a more reckless driver if we want to stick with the comparison.
Pretty bad analogy. Vader was equally talented and just as safe to work with as Bam Bam. The difference is, Vader wasnt hesitant to throw receipts left and right if his opponents were slacking. Probably because he took A TON of legitimate hits in his early career from less gifted athletes and decided to not take shit from anyone any longer, which didnt make him the most favorable co-worker backstage.
Think Vader wouldn’t be much unsafe, but rather the style they were required to wrestle in Japan took some huge toll on their body (but that goes generally for pro wrestling) seen too many of the older generation New Japan and All Japan guys in pretty rough shape nowadays.

By far and away, whenever Hulk Hogan slammed André the Giant during the late '80's. André was not over 500 lbs when Race, Kamala, et al slammed him--he was barely over 400 lbs in those occasions (he may have been close to 450 when Race slammed him in the ring). He was well over 500 lbs when Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior slammed him. Warrior did a very powerful body slam of André-- meaning, he didn't hold him for a long time--he turned him as soon as he could. What was so impressive about Hogan's slam of André at WrestleMania III is how he really held André for a long time, got only minimal assistance from André, and did a proper turn. The latter aspect caused Hogan (per his own recounting of the tale) to tear his right lat muscle. Ahmed deserves props for making the best effort to properly body slam what was undoubtedly a 550+ lbs Yokozuna, but between his weight and the girth of his waist, it would have taken a guy as large as Hogan, André, or The Big Show--all at their peak strength--to do it correctly.

@@robertcoggeshall3071Was thinking about doing an interview with some of the New Japan wrestlers, would be an interesting question which moves are actually harder to perform.
@@howstrongis 100% the tombstone, since it requires a more accurate positioning and control from both athletes and gets exceptionally harder against obese opponents. Thats why you usually didnt see the Dead Man tombstoning beefy guys, instead he went for his Choke Slam. Vader in their casket match was an exception to that, since he was agile and skilled enough to lock himself into the right spot by bearhugging Taker's crotch and scissoring his head, allowing him to secure the grip and execute it stiff, but safely. Probably the most impressive Tombstone we've ever whitnessed.
My Pro Wrestlers told my that the Tombstone is actually a lot harder to pull off since there is less help involved from the other side. So doing that on Vader is impressive.
I still vote the most impressive was Mark Henry gorilla-pressing Vader. You can slam anyone with their participation,..and it's impressive when Road Warrior Animal pressed Hogan, or Terry Gordy, but to press a guy whose 375lbs at least?
If anything, a bodyslam tells you how experienced and strong the one taking it is, he's doing 80% of the work. Example: When Kane bodyslammed Khali, you can see Khali having one arm on Kane's quad and the other on his shoulder, for stabilization and support. You also notice Khali adding a tiny bit of momentum to the lift, just enough to make the slam succeed. Which is pretty professional tbh, since too much momentum makes a bodyslam look like its halfassed and makes it more difficult for the deliverer to secure the landing. And thats why people were rightfully worried about Luger bodyslamming Yokozuna. Luger was a pretty terrible wrestler. Not goldberg-type awful and ignorant, but severely restricted in his mobility, mixed with a lack of technique = not really safe to work with. And since Yoko himself was a fairly unskilled athlete for a man of his heritage, the odds of a tragic accident were there. However, respect for adding Ron Simmons to that resumee. If I had to name to name THE strongest wrestler of all time, I'd 100% go for him. The Dominator takes an incredible amount of core strenght, explosiveness and timing to do safely, and he managed to deliver it each time with such ease, even against opponents who were actively trying to botch it (Looking at you Trips and Backlund). The fact that he was not a gym rat like 90% of the powerhouses back then makes this even more impressive, dude was just built different.
That’s all pretty good points. I was actually asking two of my wrestlers what they think is the harder move to perform, the answer was :”Strength wise body slam but damage to yourself wise tombstone. I’d say strength wise they’re the same but the opponent can help more on a body slam” As far as you mentioned, fully agree on the Dominator, it takes a lot to perform it so kudos always go to Ron Simmons. Think there is a reason why the Steiners never messed with him.
Some comments: You missed the Ultimate warrior slamming Andre when he was at his heaviest, least mobile and least accommodating Numerous men have slammed the big show, Kevin Nash, Luger, Goldberg, Kane and probably most impressive Bobby Lashley when Show was Ecw champion and likely at his heaviest Lex also slammed Yoko on a Monday night raw show which was cleaner than the original one. I'd consider this a more impressive list than the other men who slammed Yoko as Lex was far light and probably at single digit bodyfat. When you're low in bodyfat your strength PLUMMETS
As mentioned its not supposed to be a complete list, since all those guys got slammed way to many times, that would have resulted in an hour long video. Andre alone got slammed by 4 guys in Japan. That actually i heard for the first time. Need to find that clip. Especially impressive with Brian Pillman, who isnt the biggets wrestler.
Didn’t Sammartino slam Haystacks Calhoun? That would be up there.
Some mentioned that in the comments, unfortunately I found zero material. Wondering if there might be some old photos or something out there
I don't know when was the last time I saw a bodyslam, that was a hallmark of the Golden Era of the 80's. Ted Dibiase was the best
I miss those times and challenges. And Dibiasi was awesome
@@howstrongis I have thousands of hours of pure 80's wrestling, in an hour of programming; there must be 3-4 body slams, off the rope powder slams. Even rope assisted body slams in the case of Tully Blanchard. There's something truly satisfying seeing guys like Ted bodyslam, Dibiase had smooth muscles, not boxy chiseled muscles like Warrior. Also Ted had perfect form and his slams were the smoothest. The best were the last second powerslams he delivered out of nowhere to seal the victory 🤣🤣🤣👏🏽👏🏽

Not bodyslams but... Davey boy doing a vertical suplex on Vader, with hard any momentum was impressive as fuck!...
... And Goldberg jackhammer on the giant was baddass, maybe got plenty of help from the giant but baddass to watch!
Davey boy is a highlight reel himself. When I made the video about the British Bulldogs, I found some amazing vertical suplexes from Davey.

Lex hardly slammed Yoko,
Even Lex agreed on that in that interview
far be it from me to give Hogan credit but by the time he bodyslammed Andre in WM3, Andre was really becoming immobile
That is a good point, especially with Andre gotten heavier over the years too. Same with Yokozuna.
I'm trying to really think could a 1988 or a 1990 Hulk Hogan Bodyslam Yokozuna in 1993 ? That's the million dollar question
A good question indeed.
Think beside pro fighting no other sport has so many “what if’s”
Andre the Giant spent only about 1% of his entire career as a heel, but every time I see a picture of him in a thumbnail, it's a heel picture. For those of us who are old enough to remember him well, that is not the Andre we knew and loved.
That is actually a good point, never really thought about that. Actually Afro Andre with shorts was my favorite, unfortunately couldn’t find any great pictures there.
Hulk Hogan slammed Big Show, Andre, One Man Gang, Earthquake, Vader, Bundy , maybe Gorilla ? and people wonder why he had so many Back Surgeries!
Not a body slam but notably Mr. Perfect lifted The Giant cleanly for a Perfect Plex. Everyone jumped to their feet and looked so stunned.
I remember that one. The perfect plex was as clean as it gets.
One man Gang was over 500. No way he was only 450
I used for his weight multiple sources like old matches, wiki and cagematch. On some he was even listed as 400 so no one really knows beside One Man himself.

did i space and miss haystacks calhoun or did you goof up?
The later one :) Think Bruno managed to slam him, but with the older matches there is almost zero to none material unfortunately. Would have loved to include something
Comparing Vader to Bam Bam is like comparing a Kia to a Bently. Bam Bam busted his ass to keep people safe.
That’s a fair point and the best comparison I have ever heard :) I meant in terms of agility, not so much about safety. So rather the same car, but one is a more reckless driver if we want to stick with the comparison.
@howstrongis lol. Thats an awesome analogy.
Learned from the best ;)
Their was actually a wrestler in the wwe that weighed 900 pounds. Don't remember is name.
Might have been Happy Humphrey, not sure if anyone ever dared to pick him up
Thanks for letting me know his name.
No worries,. Him and the Twins are at least the biggest two i am aware off.

Stamboli... Wow!
Build like a tank, he seems to do pretty well nowadays
That is a good point actually.
Also Ahmed sometimes doesn’t get enough props and is easily hated by many, but that slam was legit.
Hogan's 60lbs heavier than Harley & a weightlifter. For me Harley impressed more.
Bulldog brower slammed haystack Calhoun
Wasnt that one of the first "break the ring" spots ever? Wish there was some material I could have included.

Ahmed Johnson Slamming Yoko. Yoko was short, and 600 pounds. That's by far the most impressive.

Hogan slammed Earthquake, too.
That might have been that time when Earthquake had his debut and went against Hulk right? Completely frogot about that.
Undertaker picked up Vader like a sack of potatoes and tombstoned him.
Makes me wonder what’s harder to perform, a body slam or a tombstone pile driver
Undertaker has botched several tombstones on big guys. Tombstone would be harder than a slam, because you have to position him for it.
You are correct on that one
Undertaker tombstone vader which is actually even more impressive
My Pro Wrestlers told my that the Tombstone is actually a lot harder to pull off since there is less help involved from the other side. So doing that on Vader is impressive.
I still vote the most impressive was Mark Henry gorilla-pressing Vader. You can slam anyone with their participation,..and it's impressive when Road Warrior Animal pressed Hogan, or Terry Gordy, but to press a guy whose 375lbs at least?
Bruno bodyslamed haystacks calhoon
Someone mentioned that too, unfortunately there is almost zero material out there
If anything, a bodyslam tells you how experienced and strong the one taking it is, he's doing 80% of the work.
I’d say strength wise they’re the same but the opponent can help more on a body slam”
As far as you mentioned, fully agree on the Dominator, it takes a lot to perform it so kudos always go to Ron Simmons. Think there is a reason why the Steiners never messed with him.
Goldberg body slammed BIG SHOW in a match in WCW
Goldberg manages some pretty impressive lifts.
Andra the giant was also slammed by the ultimate warrior
Probably as one of the last persons
Some comments:
You missed the Ultimate warrior slamming Andre when he was at his heaviest, least mobile and least accommodating
Numerous men have slammed the big show, Kevin Nash, Luger, Goldberg, Kane and probably most impressive Bobby Lashley when Show was Ecw champion and likely at his heaviest
Lex also slammed Yoko on a Monday night raw show which was cleaner than the original one.
Same goes for Big Show and co.
So its rather to be a list of the heaviest guys who got slammed, not who slammed them in the first place. Hope that make sense.
As for the Lex one, do you know by any chance which episode that was?
@@howstrongis exactly. The list should focus on who slammed them when they were at their heaviest hence most impressive.
