Thank you for the kind words! I’m actually hoping to produce an updated and longer version of this video in the next year or so. If you have any other information about him that you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to contact me here or on our Facebook page, Coal Creek: A Documentary.

Thank you. I've been singing Pay Day at Coal Creek for 60 years & didn't know it became Rocky Top (which I have also sung)

David R. Thomas was my great great grandfather. My grandmother was born and reared in Coal Creek.

Ive never met any of his descendants. I’m working on a longer more detailed version of this video, and I’d love to hear any stories or additional information you may have about him. His contributions have directly impacted parts of my life.

@@andyharness86 As I know very little of my 2nd great grandfather other than what I learned from Barry Thacker. He dresses up like David Thomas when he does Coal Creek history.

Born and raised in coal creek myself. Lake CIty as it was known back then. Many fond memories of my childhood.

Thank you for this. Working on a historical narrative regarding the Cross Mountain Mine disaster. Still gathering content as I progress. This was wonderful.

Thanks for keeping the history alive. I had two great grandfathers apart of that war, Jake West and George Powers.

Thanks for the presentation. I'm an Anderson County native myself. Had family who worked back in the mines of those hills. Just curious, I know where Drummond was lynched at supposedly...but why was he lynched? I never learned that story, just hear about it sometimes. I need to go check out that museum sometime. I'd like to just talk history.

He was indeed hung from the bridge, but the reasons why vary depending on your sources. I stumbled across some papers of the time talking about soldiers investigating a murder and he was a potential suspect/accessory (I need to track that story down again so I can have a hard copy of it).
The local legend was that he was a charming, handsome man that all the girls loved, and after a dance, some soldiers who weren't as popular with the ladies jealously strung him up after a confrontation.

What's the name of the first song? I can't find it anywhere.

It's called "Coal Creek War" and it's sung by Tony Thomas and written by John Rice Irwin.
