I'm from Germany and I have a special edition of a Gun Magazine about the 1911.
There was a nice story about a 1911 that a German civilian was presented by an US veteran.
The German guy was in wounded in the hospital when the town was liberated by the US Army.
Because he had 3 years English lessons in school, he became the translator between the American Officers and the German medical personnel.
He became a kind of friend with a Sergeant.
He was send home in 1945, and thought he wouldn't see this Sergagain.
In 1964 he became a chairman in a big German Company, and they had good contacts with an American Artillery in Neckarsulm.
And who was the Manager of the Rid&Gun Club? This Sergeant.
The German guy became a Lifemember of the NRA, and when the Sergeant was retired in 1966,he sold the 1911 that he carries since WW II, and give it as a present to his German friend.

❤️Love the look of the M1911-A1 so much I've taken my modest $400 Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 and have gone WWII retro on it, adding a serrated arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop with USGI (Vietnam Era) brown plastic grip panels and of course a M3 holster.
    🇺🇲Stay well. Go in peace.

I have my dads 1911A1 that he carried in his 23 year career in the army. Not the one he was issued in ‘41,which was lost when he was wounded, but one he snagged at the end of WW2. Its a Remington Rand, made in 1944. He had it nickel plated in Japan in ‘49,where I was born, and carried it in Korea and Formosa (Taiwan). First gun I ever fired. Been told the nickel plating ruined its collector value, not that I care. To me is priceless.

My father was a sergeant in the P.I. during WW2 and had a low regard for the .45 pistol. He did not care for handguns of any type but he was a Sharpshooter with the Garand.
In the jungle he favored the M1 Carbine. They had a gun called the 'grease gun' in .45 and he said it was OK if you wanted to waste ammo at an alarming rate. He was a 'one shot- one hit' type of soldier.
He also said that he was 'part Japanese' because he had a piece of Jap steel in him from a grenade and carried it until he died in 2005. He was 85 years old.

When I got out of the service in 1980 one of the first things I did was purchase a Colt government model 1911 and a 12 gauge (both mainly for home defense). Over the years I have bought and traded guns but one that I will never get rid of is the Colt. The fell of it in my hand is just so comfortable that unless you have had a gun fit so well I have a hard time explaining the sensation. It becomes an extension of your arm.
    Anyway thanks for sharing 👍✌️🇺🇸

Carried one in the Navy on ship during watch on roving patrol and shore patrol. Discharged in 1984 just before the Beretta 94 became the official sidearm. Thankfully my Brother was still enlisted during their decommissioning in 1985-86 and he got me one when the USN was selling them to active duty. It is my most cherished sidearm to this day.

OK let's see, I carried a Garand on my shoulder in Navy boot camp everywhere I went. Qualified with the 1911 while on board ship, and carried a Thompson SMG while on pier watch. So I guess you could say I'm a fan of American ww2 firearms.

Thank you to all our veterans still protecting us today

I bought one of those off of a friend 30 years ago for $225. The S/N says it's a 1942 Colt, but they made a lot that year and I don't think it had any history except for sitting in a box in a warehouse. Still my favorite gun.

His Uncle Caesar carried one in a shoulder holster and that thing was his baby he was a Sergeant major and he was in The military for all of World War II, Korea and Vietnam he was a hard ass dude My dad only achieved the rank of specialist he was a radio operator

I appreciate the history of that old soldier. I stayed at home yesterday and shot my relatively new commer 70 series Ruger SR 1911, only 9 years-old. Flawless pistol function with 119 rounds of SWC handloads, although the shooter was a bit rusty. If the eastern stroms clear, by golly, I'm going to do it again today! Life really is good, even when facing lemons, we can make lemonaide.

They keep about 5 of the Mustang P 51's at the airport near me. I see (and hear) them all the time during the summer. When all of them are flying in circles over this area I go out and look up and see them. There is also a Bomber at the same airport (Addison airport, Addison Tx). . . the bomber is Lulu. That thing is enormous!

I guess the $35 I paid for a 1911 A1 was a real bargain! Of course, that was back in the late 1950s and I ordered it through the CMP from an ad in the American Rifleman. That was back in the day when a 16-year-old could buy a gun. When my stepdad passed away, I found the pistol under his bed. I thought it would be good to have it refinished, but luckily the smith told me that I would have to be an idiot to do so. I found that the pistol was made by Ithaca in 1944 and shipped to Britain for their home guard or whatever they called it. I don't know that it has been fired since the last time my stepdad fired it. We had gone to an old stone quarry, I was shooting my 1913 Luger and he was shooting the 45. He asked if I wanted to fire it. I fired one shot and handed it back to him - too loud! I still have and shoot the Luger. It comes in handy when trudging about in the woods. Someday I will try the 45 again. Just to bring back memories of my stepdad.

Picked up a nice nickle-plated straight 1911 at a gun show awhile back. Got a letter on it from Colt- turns out it was made in early 1912! I call it my 'Titanic' gun; as the evil butler in 'Titanic' used a similar one in the movie.
