My grandma always said about green beans that you just have to plant them deep enough so that they can still hear the church bells ringing. I always think of her when I plant beans.
I purchased 2 half dead peach trees almost 2 years ago at a Tractor Supply in September 2022. We put them in the ground and my husband told me I wasted 30 dollars. Well, they are about 15 ft tall and full of peaches this year. There are probably 200 peaches on the 2 trees. I was feeling so good about myself that I bought 5 blueberry bushes and 2 fig trees too. The blueberries are full of berries.
I LOVE that store!! And I love saving plants that go on clearance 😂 I bought a $3 Apache Blackberry bush on its last twig. Put it in the ground and it's thriving!!! ❤❤❤ Now I need to go buy more😂

" I don't think I'm going to start as many seeds inside. - I say that now, but come January February..." I said this very same thing earlier this week, lol! I put up a greenhouse last fall and found the vast majority of the things I started indoors would have been just fine starting in the greenhouse a few months later. I started onions indoors under grow lights end of January. And I started some in the greenhouse in April. Now it's June and they are both the same size, the greenhouse ones look a bit healthier, and I had far less work invested in them.
my mom said she had a brown thumb. She planted a row of seeds and broke off two "dead" twigs to mark the row. The seeds never came up but the two sticks grew beautiful flowers.
We throw wheat berries out in the pasture in the spring it doesn’t take long for then to start growing and then we let the chickens free range and mow it down 😁
What you said about having a "green thumb" was very encouraging. I have always thought I could never have a garden because I have killed most house plants I have owned in the past. But one day I was watching Becky plant in her grow room and she said "There is no such thing as a "green thumb" you have to develop and learn the skill of planting." That was a huge Epiphany for me and that same week I went out and purchased a green stalk planter and I am so proud of all of the growth I was able to nurture in my green stalk. Thank you Becky, for the encouragement. ❤
Hi Becky thank you so much for showing how you planted your green bean seeds in the ground. This is my 1st year gardening and I find it so confusing and intimidating trying to work out how far down I need to plant different seeds. If you could show us how you plant different seeds that would be so amazing. 😊❤️🇬🇧
35 year gardener here. Warm weather plants, like tomatoes, tomatillos, cucumbers, basil, hot peppers...need 70*-75* soil temperatures to thrive. It doesn't matter the date. Get a soil thermometer and begin transplanting when the soil is warm. Anything colder than that stunts the vitality of the plant and wastes all the energy spent growing them from seed.
Where do you live? That hasn't ever been the case for me. I planted out my tomatoes in 50 degree whether this year and it got down to 40s some nights. This year is by far the earliest I've gotten tomatoes and the plants are thriving! Makes me wonder what factors have given you and others those results because I see so many people say that.
I picked a spot in my yard this year to randomly throw flower seeds and decided to let it do its thing and feed the bees 🐝. I can’t wait to see the different flowers pop up!
The more you plant in a bed , reduces the nutrient intake for the plants that are in there , also in regards to chaos planting , remember that different plants/ flowers require different soils and different nutrients , throwing all different seeds in together might not be a good idea, because they won't be getting what they need .
I love my steamer for all over my house. I use it to keep my shower and shower doors clean, keep up with my oven cleaning, windows, window sills, my washer. I have the Bissell Steamshot.
It is hard to wait until the right time to plant but it's not worth being early as the plants work harder to grow. Speaking from experience =-) Love beans and peas. Kids love picking them. =-)
It’s so weird watching you from AZ. Today is an excessive heat day of 111 degrees. Our gardens are dying and just a few plants survive the heat. And you are in the misty weather wearing a jacket! Haha. 😂 love it.
Becky, you should get yourself some outdoor trail cams and set them up around your garden just to see what critters are getting in to your garden beds.
You can cover the splatter zones on the walls with clear shelf liner. Self stick, doesn't hurt the paint, wipes off super easy. Also, if you use a spin mop of some sort, you can use it to clean ceilings, walls, and your outside windows.
I love my spin mop and I've found great uses for it other than it's intended use. I bought extra heads for mop and I use one of them to wash my car. Now I never have to stand on the inside of door to get the roof of my car cleaned. I also use it to clean walls 2 times a year. Love your videos and I'm getting a lot of new menu ideas 😋😋😋 Thanks Becky ❤❤❤

Yes I too am inspired by her videos & the way Becky rolls with the punches with her garden now but watching her pulling out viable peanut starts was such a disappointment
Hey sweet Becky. I bought some white sheer protective mesh from Amazon a few weeks ago in fear of the cicadas coming. We had just planted several fruit trees. I have used a couple over top of my beds to protect my herbs, lettuce and flowers from critters and bird droppings. Maybe you could lie that over your wheat seeds until they start growing well. Love from Tennessee!
That's what they're made for. They can't eat thru it. However, so far in East Tn, we haven't had any. But it has def worked toward any other critters. Had nothing eaten on
Yes, my daughter has a steamer and it works GREAT! We also used it to get the moth eggs off of the screens. I don't know if any of you know what I mean. They make a mess of your screens, and are a nightmare to get off. The steamer works great, even if the eggs have been on the screens for a long time.
Wheat berries can be grown as a tasty grass for indoor cats. I use my seed starting lights to get the seeds started. Once the wheat grass is about 3-4 inches, I give my cats access to the planter. Eventually the wheat grass will start to decline/die so I just start again for a fresh supply for the cats.
@@k.j.krimson2590 I ordered my seeds off Amazon from Palouse Brand. Walmart also sells them. Larger grocery stores might even carry them. What I actually use is the actual Wheat Berries (seeds) that are sold for people to grind their own wheat instead of what is sold as “cat grass seed” even though it is the same thing but at a much better price. It doesn’t matter if the Wheat Berries are winter, spring, hard, soft, red, white, etc. That will make sense when you search for Wheat Berries. I’d only buy 1-3 lbs at a time because you really don’t need that much for a pot of grass. Hope your guinea pig enjoys!
You should do that flower idea where you are going to have your bees where you need to seed the grass grow flowers and one section you should grow sunflowers and then give them to your chickens and the bees can enjoy them too
I agree! try and try again, until you succeed. I hope you have success with the wheat berries and that harvesting the seeds aren’t a pain for you. I think Laura thought that was for the birds and took what she had left to her dads shop to finish the job. At lest you will be able to say you tried it. Who knows? Maybe you will like it.
Becky, I felt just like you about starting perennials until this year. I watched Garden Answer’s episode on winter sowing in milk jugs and it was a success. I grew several varieties of echinacea, yarrow, holly hocks, larkspur and planted from the milk jug directly to the gardens.
I sow one whole raised bed with green beans. I use the square foot gardening method and plant 288 seeds. Almost 100% germination rate. I can them and they last a year for my husband and I.
Becky, you are living my dream life. You are such an inspiration to me. I have my first raised bed this year. 18 tomato plants, 4 bell peppers and marigolds up the middle. Your garden is my long run goal! I learn something with every video, gardening or cooking. Thank You just isn’t enough!!
Wow, how big is your raised bed, 12'x6'? That's a lot of tomatoes which would normally be in a row of 25'. If you crowd them they won't do as well and could get fungus by being too wet.
If I am having plants by a wall I go to the $ tree and buy clear contact paper to put on the wall behind where my plants are way easier to clean. You can get clear cling contact paper too that way no glue
I throw the whole pumpkins behind my garage just on the grass because I’m just using it as compost material after Halloween. In the summer I have tons of sprouts shooting up everywhere. In the fall I will have pumpkins that I use for outside decorating. Crazy! I don’t add dirt or fertilizer. They face the North and don’t see much sun. They just grow themselves. I did this once on a pile of old hay and got pumpkins that way too. Unintentionally of course. Zucchini I sow the seeds and just ignore them until it’s time to harvest. I love watching how others do their gardening. I’m doing more flowers this year and dedicate a flowerbed to chaos gardening. But I call it my butterfly & bee garden.
We used to have mice and birds that would eat the seeds. So we had better luck starting the seeds indoors. But I just read some of your comments and they used tulle to put over the seeds outdoors. That is a great idea.
Congratulations Becky on getting your grow room all set up and cleaned. I can see and hear the overwhelm that dogs you occasionally but I also see you power through it and succeed! You’re such an inspiration and I am so proud of all your achievements and I cheer you on when times are tough. Keep on being the humble and authentic soul we love and cherish here 😊
Becky, I was in the garden last night. I picked 2 cucumbers, 1 purple pepper, 2 green peppers and a big handful of green beans. It is the beginning of June. Last year we didn't get the garden in until the end of May.
I hope you are keeping a garden journal to track when your personal frost date was this year, what didn’t like the cool nights, what’s getting rated by critters, etc. so you’ll know for next year.
i just bought my husband a steam cleaner for his birthday !! we absolutely love it & not only does it get the gunky corners but the one we got has a window cleaning attachment !! my windows are the clearest they’ve ever been !
I think I would put all the cold stratified stuff together so you can just pop the whole box in the fridge. I just finished putting in my garden, too. What a relief!
I am a momma to 5 grown children, & I have had about 3 steamers over the years, including the steam shot. I have found any steamer will do the same job. Hope this helps!
I’ve sprouted wheat for the chickens which worked ok ,but can’t use it otherwise and now that my greenhouse is not so full , will start perennials for fall planting, and keep my peppers and okra in the indoor beds, because they like it warmer inside than montana outside gives them. Peanuts like it warm, might not have the best climate for them Becky…😊
My neighbor after 10 years of gardening had decided that this year they would use up all their old seeds. So they just planted with all their old seeds and they had a big bucket full. And they said ultimately they're glad they did it. And that next year they're going to dedicate one garden plot for just old seeds and just throw in what they think would grow well and see what grows.
I noticed you do not have a trash can in your grow room. You could have it so that everything you put in a trash can in there could go into your compost. Hope that makes sense!😊 ❤
Thanks for sharing your day Becky. I'm not all the way through but just wanted to say I wouldn't plant calendula around base of Fahlias if you get a lot of rain. They will need air to avoid powdery mildew later in the season.
I live in the Southwest and the only thing I don’t direct sow is my tomatoes.Everything else is direct sown. This year my corn, carrots, green beans, peas, watermelon, cantaloupe, and pumpkins were planted on March 12.
Ive been organic gardening with heirloom varieties 8 years. I recognize myself in your videos. I discovered winter sowing. Really reduces what i sow indoors. I will start just a few backups to the main starts outside. I sow tomatoes end of march in northern indiana outside. Its so awesome and the starts are healthier.
That black cabinet that you have under your heat mats would look beautiful with a fresh coat of paint and some free hand flower drawings on it or stencils of flowers. It would be beautiful and then on the inside of your white door, you could plant or not plant I mean you could paint picture of a garden bed. Just a thought I love crafting.
I have the Bissel SteanShot and use it on the window and sliding door runners, the shower grout car wheels. I just finished cleaning inside my stove hood. This little gadget does a great job on hard to get to places.
In Australia, we generally just plant the whole sweet potato that has chitted and growing slips. It is very successful as your not disturbing the slips.
🌺Aloha Becky, enjoy watching your video and see what you're growing in your garden. I'm gardening in Hawaii and can grow all year long, which is great, but we still need to figure what grows in our area. One thing we've had success with are peanuts. We grew them in containers and this year we're using a grow bag. We did about two to three plants, they need space and spread out. After it flowers, pegs form and need to go into the soil to form peanuts. Sometimes we even cover the pegs to help the plant. We did get a lot of rain and hope to get a good harvest this year🤞I noticed you grow a lot of flowers in your beds, so that's what I'm doing in my garden this year a big change for our garden. See you in your next video.

Meatballs, meatloaf, stuffed peppers and chicken and birria tacos! Was a little worried between working and keeping my grandson that I won't have time for cooking. Thanks for helping me solve the problem. I can't wait!
I have a steam mop that has attachments to clean different surfaces so it’s great for the floor and small areas. Also has an attachment to clean windows and mirrors.
Hi Becky I came across a different way of getting sweet potato slips. Firstbyou shallow plant in compost the sweet potato. Once the leaves start to fill out you detach your slips and put them in water as you did. I imagine the rest is just as you do now. It just seemed that the slops were extremely healthy and abundant. Maybe one to try for next year. Lovely bouquet for your friend and it is special when you've grown them yourself. Another good plant for bouquets is alstromeria. Indian summer is just beautiful. This would be good in your landscaped garden and it comes back each year. Plus you can split it quite easily at the beginning of the season.💚
I loved the idea of chaos gardening in the flower bed, so I thought I would try it. I have 6 GreenStalks on my front porch. It is my version of a kitchen garden. I have herbs, lettuces, tomatoes and other things growing out there, but ran out of plant starts to finish filling the rest of two of the GreenStalks. So, your idea of a chaos garden tickled my interest, and I took all of my left-over flower seeds, mixed them and planted the last open areas of the GreenStalks. I am excited to see what happens with this. Thanks for the idea!🌱🌹🌻🌷🌿
On an unrelated note. Just on the news that the CDC is recommending no consumption of raw, unpasteurized milk, because of the bird flu being found in cows, will be in unpasteurized milk too.😊❤

The smell of marigolds deters some critters. Have read that daffodils deter deer. I live in the country and we use the larger outdoor mouse traps. Also if it is a slug/snail issue. My Dad always used a low container with beer in it. It atttracts them and they will drown. This works for voles too, he used to say(he passed away a long time ago. I have tried to remember his gardening tips).😊❤
Just a thought...Mother's day may still be early for planting toms and peppers in your area...the night temps continue to drop too low often enough that the plants suffer.... especially peppers. I live south of you in the Willamette Valley and have just put out peppers and tomatoes...up until last week a few of the night temps were still hitting low 40s. 😊 Thanks for sharing your videos... they are wonderful ❤️
Hey Becky when growing corn when it start before you trans plant them it have one very long root you have to make sure its not damage to get the corn from the plant❤

This past fall, I planted wheat along one of my fences. I used it as greens for my chickens all winter and spring. It worked great! I live in zone 9, Tucson Arizona. I plan to do it again this coming fall. It was like a lawn. I just used scissors to keep it trimmed. I let a few of the plants go to seed. But it wasn’t enough to grind into wheat.
I have one of the bissel hand held steamers. HIGHLY recommend. Clean my window sills with it every year and refrigerator seals….great in the bathroom. Love my steamer, not sure how I went without it most of my life.
hello friend! i write to you to let you know that bird love wheat seeds, my father taught me whenever you plant direct in the soil you should cover the dirt with something till all the seed you needed are germinated thant you take off the sheet ( transparent plastic prefered) so you can see through it the germination. you kinda give the other seeds to birds because they will allways come to feed on when they see a new returned soil. let me know try it for all you're direct soil in the garden cover it up with a transparent plastics secure with the same metals tools you have for the black sheets till it all germinates, it make the humiditie high enaugh and prevent the predators

Becky, I can tell how you love things clean and tidy…which I totally appreciate as I’m that way myself. I had an idea and wondered if you and Josh thought about epoxy sealing your grow room floor. I’ve seen that used on garage floors and it looks amazing. Then you can put base boards down afterwards. Your grow room would look so tidy if you were to be able to do that. To have such a room is a dream and I love it! Not looking for a reply as you got a family to tend to, but hopefully you’ll have time to read in the event no one else has suggested. Looking forward to seeing your garden grow.
Such a great suggestion We had that done before we moved into this house in our garage! Worth every penny!!!! We loved it 3 years ago when we moved in and it still looks awesome. We got a very light grey almost sky blue!
You could definitely have a fall/winter garden. Theres tons of winter specific varieties for the UK that you might manage to have growing for at least a little longer than you have with your summer season
Hi Becky, while watching I had a thought. The floor of your grow room, might benefit with a garage floor epoxy covering they do have DIY kits. That way it is sealed and won't hinder any future covers you all decide to do. Just a thought. Enjoy your content THANK YOU :)
I know it sounds weird but I prefer to plant in a down pour. The ground is nice and wet and easy to turn and the plant is getting some nice moisture to start. Very easy to pick weeds from very wet soil, they just slip right out.

Your going too have a beautiful garden this year Becky . Why because you are planting with love. Love always overcomes.
Laura from Garden Answer had done wheat last year and it was a huge success.
An insect netting spread over the bed will keep the birds out until the wheat germinates. The birds will still help with "thinning" later. ;)
I agree! try and try again, until you succeed.
I have been living vicariously through Becky since she first started her channel too. Planning to help my daughter when she starts her homestead.
I am always amazed when you only see 2 little leafs and you know what plant it is. Wow!
i just bought my husband a steam cleaner for his birthday !! we absolutely love it & not only does it get the gunky corners but the one we got has a window cleaning attachment !! my windows are the clearest they’ve ever been !
Becky just an observation. With heat mats and all the growth lights make sure you have your smoke/fire detectors active.
I’m sure Josh is on top of that, but always a nice reminder. Your comment reminded me I didn’t change my batteries when we sprung forward. Thanks.
I think I would put all the cold stratified stuff together so you can just pop the whole box in the fridge.
I just finished putting in my garden, too. What a relief!
Becky, cover the wheat bed with agribon (protective row cover) until it sprouts. That will protect all those seeds from the birds.
Becky I always use a toothbrush and a sprayer when I clean thé corners of my windows. 😊
My husband bought a steam cleaner to use on the stove. It works really well.
Love that you show us the moments you’re just winging it and the failures that come along with gardening!
Should have left the peanuts, the roots looked good. Have so much garden space would have been fun to see if they grew.
That’s what I thought too! The peanuts would have given some great diversity to the garden! Such a waste!!!
I own one of the hand held steamer… I love it… specially in the bathroom. No strong chemical needed and cleans those hard to reach spaces…❤❤❤❤
I noticed you do not have a trash can in your grow room. You could have it so that everything you put in a trash can in there could go into your compost. Hope that makes sense!😊
❤
You could use a toothpick with a cleaning rag to get into the nooks and crannies in the meantime.😊❤
That sounds like an amazing garden!
Hi Becky, and acre friends. Its the Bissell steam shot, and I love it especially for those little tight crevices.
Have you ever used it on the grout lines of bathroom tile? I was thinking about getting one
🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️
she cracks me up.
Starts out deep cleaning, which leads into seed organizing, 🐿️😊I do the same thing.
A tip for the backseat of your vehicle put a crib sheet on it will make clean up easier from little one and it'll save from spills
I’m a couple hrs north of you and about to start seeds for Fall and overwintering. Just throwing that out there if you are thinking about it.
**grab some small/medium S hooks & some key rings for grow light cables (place rings on cables & hooks on shelves) makes it easier for maneuvering shelves without running over cables.
Reusable cable ties for fans.*** 😊😊💜💜💜
Inspiration is the key word for me when I watch Becky!
Indolence turns into productivity… EVERY Time!
Whether it’s cooking or gardening.
Thankyou Becky and everyone else who comments.
Greetings from Australia

I have the little steamer and the thing I use it most on is the window seals. It works amazingly.
Bisselle steam machine. I love mine. There are a lot of uses for one and doesnt take a ton of room.
Girl, I just want to say thank you so much! I did my shopping today and I have a Saturday full of cooking coming up. Doing breakfast burritos, croissant breakfast sandwiches and dinners too.
Just on the news that the CDC is recommending no consumption of raw, unpasteurized milk, because of the bird flu being found in cows, will be in unpasteurized milk too.😊❤
They have since came back and retracted that .
@@dianedohman1807No! There has been no retraction from the CDC either on the news or on their website! Please do not spread incorrect information! This is a life threatening issue!
It might be a little messy, but if you plant a mulberry tree, the birds usually don’t mess with nothing else when a mulberry tree is around
Thats great to know thanks 👍
Just a thought...Mother's day may still be early for planting toms and peppers in your area...the night temps continue to drop too low often enough that the plants suffer.... especially peppers. I live south of you in the Willamette Valley and have just put out peppers and tomatoes...up until last week a few of the night temps were still hitting low 40s. 😊 Thanks for sharing your videos... they are wonderful ❤️
Hello neighbor! I did the same, my peppers weren't very happy (I'm in Eugene)
Hi neighbor! I'm east of Corvallis. Looks like the weather has finally settled down...lots of sunshine! Happy gardening!
Hey Becky when growing corn when it start before you trans plant them it have one very long root you have to make sure its not damage to get the corn from the plant❤
Place clear plastic on the walls to keep them clean and protected Your garden looks awesome and the flower bouquet was pretty to.
If you paint your seed floor a fun color that will excited you as you walk into the room
No. Painted floors don’t last and create a huge job once it starts flaking. Ask my front porch.
@@cynthiafisher9907 I used specifically floor paint and prepped well. I had someone else warn me and ignored it, then paid the price. It looked so good at first, lasts a few years, but then it chips. Forcing you the sand it all down even to repaint. This is why you see chipped painted porches all over California.
@@cynthiafisher9907 wood might be different. I was referring to cement like Becky has, but painted wood, like a house will needed to be painted again over time.
A lot of flowers can be winter sown. It’s fun to do, usually successful and doesn’t take any grow light space!
I’m glad to be able to see my phone again and have you here by my side in hosital during recovery from an emergent surgery never thought that’s what this week would be like!
Oh my gosh I'm sorry you're not feeling well I hope you recover quickly!
@@beth.hogancvt thank you very much thought I was doing ok but this mornings a whole new ball game 😭
Becky, I am so proud of you! Good job. You are very inspiring. ❤
I like planting after a down pour, but I'm too much of a sissy for planting in one.
