      Isn't that a theme explored in Cyber Punk 2077? Someone losing their sense of identity and self through the (potential) "death of personality".
      Edit: I suppose you meant giving people the ability to monitor thought. Either way, I think I agree. Mental hygiene should probably exclude medically embedded foreign objects by limited liability corporations. Especially if they object to any third party or opensource code inspection.

      I wouldn't mind trying something like it once it's a temporary thing like one of those headgear things you see in Sci-fi. I bet that would be used for gaming and I can't wait to try something like that (once proven safe and without long-term adverse effects at least).

    • @SammyNineFingers
      @SammyNineFingers ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Same here. My friends and family misconstrue my though process as being quick wit, but it's really just because my mind is wandering and jumping from one thing to the next while vaguely listening to the conversation at hand. A prime example of this was a few years back at a family get-together my aunt was on her 3rd piece of Rhubarb pie and talking about how they don't have Rhubarb in Texas, so she only gets it when she comes back to North Dakota, and how much she really likes Rhubarb pie. My mind wandered and went something like this: she's on her third piece, isn't that a lot of sugar? It must be a lot of sugar, because it's too sweet for me to eat. Isn't a high sugar intake a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes?
      and at that moment she got all giddy, and said "You guys will never guess what I'm getting when we get back to Texas." To which my immediate response was, "Type 2 Diabetes?" Immediately took all the wind out of her sails, her husband started laughing hysterically, my parents were mortified, then started laughing as well, other family members wandered over to see what was so funny, and her husband tells them while gasping for breath, and they start laughing too, while my aunt is pouting saying it wasn't THAT funny.

    • @victor9
      @victor9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SammyNineFingers lmao that was funny and inappropriate just like me! Especially the part of not being able to stay in the conversation; just grabbing bits and pieces and wondering away. Its both a blessing and a curse! In serious situation where you are expected to have a serious response yet you are in lala land then just play it of as usual to everyone's disapproval or horror! Either way it is what it is

    • @Zabiru-
      @Zabiru- ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SammyNineFingers I can relate. I had an ADHD evaluation done on me, but I did not tick enough boxes to qualify for an ADHD diagnosis.
      I'm bipolar though, so on any given day my mind is going 1000mph on its default setting.
      My "problem" as well as my strength is that I can be part of a conversation and during it, I sometimes make associative leaps in my thoughts regarding the current topic and once I've jumped 2 or 3 steps onto some (in my head) vaguely related topic I'll end up shoe-horning it into the conversation. I say shoehorn, but I think the transition is kind of alright most of the time. Problem or not the consequence is that, and I'll engage in a rare example of complimenting myself here, a conversion with me is rarely boring at least. Well you know - unless I think of something to talk about that no one else present gives a shit about. Which happens sometimes :)
      Mentally at the moment, I have the problem that I'm aware that I tend to over-explain and use way too many words to get to the point, but at the same time I also want to be precise and clear in what I'm saying so sometimes I attempt to explain "how I got there". Which only makes me even more long-winded ^^
      You know - Like this comment is getting long-winded.
      I'll just shut up now :)

    • @victor9
      @victor9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zabiru- No worries as you can see both replays here are long and winding. Bipolar and ADHD and other neuro-divergent have overlapping issues. As long as you get the right diagnosis the rest will be fine. Yeah, I remember the movie Minority Report. The idea of arresting potential criminals before they act or would act is just a scary progression for society. Thoughts are just thoughts. If you are afraid of the final action, just be aware of the small actions that must take place before the big action can be detrimental. It isn't always possible but it is better than punishing anyone for a thought crime.

    I have dealt with the pack of wild dogs thing in real life. I lived in a small town in Arizona for a few years, and on the edge of town there was a pack of about 8 dogs. Some strays, but most escaped or were abandoned by their owners. The dogs sought each other out, and became a gang of sorts. They would harass people who got too close. Animal control would go after the gang and capture a few, and return them to their owners. However, there would always be new escapees. The funniest part is that once I saw my neighbors dog running with the pack. The next day I told him, and he was relieved. He had no idea what had happened to his dog. He drove around town where people said they saw the pack until he spotted them. He called out to his dog, and it ran up to him.

    I believe thoughts can reveal the heart with or without a corresponding action, which means thoughts reveal who we really are, or at least a facet of who we are. And what happens when negative thoughts cross our minds? Do we let them pass on through, or do we let them sit a while? Entertain them? I try not to go there. Either let it pass through, or push it out with something positive. I don't recall ever reading 1984 all the way through, but looking at today's world, I'd say Orwell was a bit of a prophet.

    Right now he is best known for his song 'Welcome to the internet' and I would describe him as someone on the lines of George Carlin and Bill Burr when it comes to performance, delivery and layers behind the jokes.
    Your thoughts would certainly be interesting.
    He does shows with mostly spoken word, song and I guess weird forms of acting.
    As for video suggestions:
    'Welcome to the internet' gets more interesting the more you think about the layers and it's incredibly well done.

    Louis CK has a brilliant bit about his inner-monologue titled "Of Course, but Maybe..." Definitely worth a listen.
    Speaking of thought crimes...
    A friend of mine tried using Chat GPT to create a joke for me "in the style of Louis CK." The app replied it couldn't because of Louis CK's "history of offensive content."
    Nice to know AI is now able to censor our thoughts in real-time. 🙄

      His content is barely offensive. His personal life is pretty offensive, but his humor wouldn't even be considered edgy.

    For more comedy you would LOVE Gary Gulman’s How States got their Abbreviations. I believe it was a bit when he was a guest on Conan OBrien

    You're a big channel, so you'll probably never read this but I would strongly recommend checking out Bill's full shows (at least parts of them) rather than these guest appearances.
    Because in these, he cuts the bits short, maybe leaves out some controversial stuff.
    Like with this one, I'm pretty sure it's one where he talks about homophobia. Which at least I found more interesting than the stuff about driving onto the side walk or muffins.

    I'm exceptionally gentle in real life but I have a fiction writers mind. My brain entertains all sorts of crazy ideas but I'm well socialised so can reject the bad ones with ease.
    The thought crime thing scares me too. I can imagine ai or ar reading our micro expressions so well one day that our thoughts are known to the authorities.
    After that the human race will have no free thinkers. No one would get so far as to rebel before they are reported by their own goggles or phone.

    Behavior is important. You can have horrible thoughts that are not acted out.
    Minority Report with Tom Cruise involves a clairvoyant that predicts crimes and the person is arrested before they can commit the crime.

    I think you’d enjoy Ze Frank’s True Facts series of videos. It’s content made about animals in a comedic way, all while teaching you about the animal. The videos aren’t too long either so I think they’d work for reactions. And even if you don’t think they’d be good for reaction videos I’m pretty sure you’d get a kick out of them for your own enjoyment.

    For me, the most terrifying aspect of 1984 is how The Party took Winston Smith’s righteous indignation but allowed him to only coach it in terms that are morally repugnant. They then turned those words against him. Even though, as the reader, you know he’s right, they stole the moral high ground from under him to hang him on

    Bill manages to find the right amount of uncomfortable and relatable, strangers that are comfortable enough to judge you after a short time are the worst, I get get triggered by unfunny people saying "that's quite funny for you" as if they're on a higher intellectual level than you but fail to understand condescension as a concept.
