You know how I know Not Like Us was popular? My older sister listened to it. My medievalist, Celtic folk-music listening sister heard about the beef and listened to Not Like Us. It wasn't recommended to her by Spotify. She found out about the beef because her academic friends were discussing it. And the only reason those nerds knew about it is because they saw a VIDEO ESSAY about it. This shit was everywhere, like has Drake lost his mind?
As a synth, lofi, and soundtrack listener, I was in the same box; the entire beef was completely unknown to me until everyone in my life started saying "A-Minorrr"

I heard about the beef and I already liked Kendrick but I didn't listen to his music all that much, this album's come out and the online response has caught my attention, I've watched AF's videos on what Kendrick and Drake were putting out because I was noticing the responses and content people were making. Now I am here, I've been listening to Kendrick's music more because I chose to and I'm also watching AF's videos and they are pointing me toward the songs like Not Like Us... etc etc.
I literally knew about the beef and got into kendrick's music because Yu Gi Oh Players were talking about the song. This shit was literally fucking everywhere
Euphoria and the following Not Like Us was the first time i listened to kdot since he dropped TPAB. I just wasn't interested in such music at the time, but when I heard Not Like Us, which I learned about from a social studies commentator, and realised it's an absolute banger I gave it, and kdots entire library, thousands of listens at this point. The lawsuit is a joke
It's also ironic that he too said in that stream "Fairytales won't do it, you need facts" and then proceeds to charge a lawsuit without any type of proof backing his claim about UMG boosting NLU.

And later on Heart part 6 saying that he secretly told Kendricks crew that information. "Your honor, he told lies about me, that i repeatedly asked him to tell and I give him the onformtaion about what lies to tell. Why would he lie about me?"
Extra context from across the world: I’m a Scotsman who’s currently living in Vietnam teaching kids English and for a straight month or two lots of my older students were obsessed with Not Like Us and asking me to translate the lyrics (which was fun, hilarious, and a rather difficult task to explain to someone in a second language). At the time I knew this song was breaking through on a different level. It was even playing in coffee shops and malls. Even if bots were used it’s a drop in the water compared to the amount of people actually bopping to drake’s downfall.
You got to put yourself in Drakes shoes, you go anywhere, speak with anyone and people are kind of talking to you funny, looking at you weird perhaps even going as far as to not bring their kids around anymore, perhaps even shooing their kids to their rooms if you come around their place. I mean how would you feel if the allegations are all false but still people are acting like you really are a PDF.
Such facts bro, I’m an Irishman and me and my girlfriend and entire friend group went nuts over the Not Like Us drop! Still playing it on a near daily basis, I even learned the lyrics n performed it at my friends bday coz I can rap n she adores the song. Even Drake fans that I know admit that Not Like Us is a fantastic and catchy song!! Drake and his entire legal team are delusional and desperate and out right sad. @@sp6450 you go to put yourself in Kendrick’s wife shoes. Making accusations of her being a victim of spousal abuse at the hands of her partner, Kendrick Lamar, which is highly damaging to her character, and then also accusing her of infidelity by fathering a child with one of her partner’s friends, Dave Free, is a direct attack on her character and is in fact a form of abuse of women in of itself. I don’t understand how you could side step all of Drake’s behavior and try to justify this bullshit legal petition.
I love that this basically confirms that Drake is incapable of comprehending how excited the world actually was to hear a track calling him out for the loser he is. This is what people do when they live in denial
Exactly. This whole situation screams of a man who never hear criticism getting a taste of reality and throwing a fit. Edit: His social bubble must be THICK.

@@ludabam241 I'm kind of confused by the reaction to this case. I feel like everyone is clowning on Drake bc of the context of the beef, but in any other situation I feel like we would be rooting for an artist trying to limit the power and influence of giant corporations regardless of whether or not that artist benefitted from it in the past. I don't deny that his motivations are selfish and petty, but if he wins would this not be a W for smaller artists and the consumers?
Remember when DJ Khaled complained on Live and called Tyler the Creator's music some "weird mysterious shit" when he got outshined by IGOR and everyone thought that was lame? At least he didn't drop a lawsuit
I watched Degrassi *religiously* as a teen and when Drake came out with his first album, I was stoked for him. I didn't really listen to his music a whole lot but nonetheless thought it was cool to see someone from my favorite show "making it". Then he came out with "Started From The Bottom" and my flasts were gabbered at how unbelievably corny that shit was. I'm sitting there remembering when The N did a "Teen Cribs" with stars from different shows on the channel. Aubrey was one of them. His mom's house was huge! They had a big ass inground pool, and in the basement of the house, he had a movie theater, a giant pool table, arcade games, and he even had his own recording studio. Like bro if you started from the bottom where the hell are we at? 😭 Ever since that song came out I've changed the lyrics and always sing it the same: "Started from Degrassi, now we here, started from Degrassi in a fuckin wheelchair" 😂
Thank you. Literally my thoughts exactly. Grew up with degrassi and thought it was pretty cool until started from the bottom. Never liked him after that and he went on to become giant. No one ever understood my Drake irritation until this year lol I feel seen.
Yeah, SFTB really was the first time I was like "...wait... something's wrong..." It's like when Todd was concerned with the first signs of rot with Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger, boy did we have no idea how bad things would get for BOTH those acts over the next decade.
Y'all know 99% of the cribs shows were fake right? 😂 only like 5 people showed their real house in any of them. And half the people were actually broke and in massive debt in real life.
what people forget is that Not Like Us was initially posted on social media & youtube. it was already generating massive buzz before it dropped on streaming platforms
i think the only ppl who've forgotten that is drake stans... somehow they've blocked the trauma from their minds. just forgotten all about every reactor everywhere watching it the day of, too.
IM SO CONFUSED. The beginning quote in the petition saying it’s harder for artists to break through the noise…isn’t drake THE noise?!?! He’s the most streamed artists or whatever so he’s the one other artists can’t compete against…right?! Like am I missing something 🥴
This happens when an entitled artist, who's used to have success be handed to him by the industry, gets put into their place by an actually talented artist. His brain can't compute that other artist don't need big labels and streaming platforms to boost their performance, because that's all he knows.
yeah bro diss songs are not marketed they are just realized so drake has used the same marketing and business tools kendrick used before but not on his diss songs its an unfair advantage cause you cant then judge what the fans really thought kendrick lifted copyrights boosting his views advertised the song on multiple events including wwe whilst drake did nothing can we honestly say the song went viral naturally ?
In dutch there's a saying thats basically "the way a host trusts his guests his how he is himself" so, if you randomly blame someone for inflating numbers, its probably what you expext because you're very familiar with that tactic

First time he lost was when he thought he could win, second time was when he released the first song, third time he lost was when he released Taylor made, fourth time was when Kendrick released Euphoria, fifth time was his genius idea of releasing the hilarious the heart part 6, sixth time was the pop out, seventh time was the not like us video disproving everything about family matters and this has to be the eighth one. I don't count Kendrick's individual success during this time like the Superbowl announcement and GNX being a huge hit as a loss for him, but maybe I should.
Tf do you mean? He didn't lose the beef a second time, because there wasn't even a second time. Hell, he punched air and still got knocked out by some wind in a hot summer 😭 Can this get any worse?
Drake said that he fed Kendrick that information just so that Kendrick can use that information against him, and then Drake could call Kendrick stupid for believing that information. Now in the second lawsuit he wants to sue UMG for defaming his character with the information he said he fed to Kendrick to use in a song that UMG would release?
This is not a defamation suit. Drake is suing over the alleged usage of bots to inflate streams of Not Like Us along with illegal payola practices, despite the fact that Drake has likely benefited from these same practices for his own tracks. EDIT: Commented this prior to hearing about the second suit. I stand corrected!
I’m just glad the world is finally seeing Drake for who he really is. As a day-one Drake hater, him being rap’s first Karen is no news. He is a man-child with nothing in the way of integrity whatsoever.
The problem is the world ISN'T. Drake's still seeing massive streaming numbers. His fans aren't turning over for any of this. They're the kinda people that fell for Alex Jones' grift.
@Gothstana it's also worth pointing out though Drake has a big casual audience who is not really tapped into what's going on news wise within the music industry. Prime example Drakes top 3 most played songs on Spotify are One Dance, God's Plan and Passionfruit. You could argue those 3 aren't even rap songs.
"Cease and Desist is for h*es", "We fed you the information" this is literally what Drake said in his diss tracks and it's aging very bad, also he makes Kendrick's lyrics aged very well😂
@@chaerizBut why is Drake claiming that UMG shouldn't have allowed the song to be released when he claimed he was the one who gave Kendrick the information to put on the song....
Did you watch the video? Did you read any information about this situation? I’ve never listened to a Drake song on my own, I’ve overheard them while at places..... But he is not suing ‘someone’ cause of a ‘diss track’, he’s suing corporations for shady business practices that helped to damage his reputation & affect his ability to earn money in the future ..... Now maybe it’s stupid to do (it is) cause he likely benefited from similar shady practices. But this is about big business & big money, not about a diss track per se. He is not suing Kendrick
@@Day-ZDuke No, it is about a diss track and Drake's wounded ego. As you said, he's benefited from these same shady business practices, and he most likely still will, this is just an excuse to try to protect his wounded ego, because he clearly isn't going to make a better diss track. This is just f*** around and find out, drake found out, and now he's running to the teacher.
@Day-ZDuke .. you’re right about this specific filing.. but there’s another filing that speaks directly to the *content* of the song itself.. that’s also technically aimed at UMG, but the gist is him saying UMG should’ve refused to release such a mean song lol.. and if it’s true that he was in the middle of a contract renegotiation with UMG when the song came out, he’s trying to (or will soon try to) paint the picture that his deal would’ve been [x amount] before the song.. and now it’s [y amount] (or non existent) due to UMG’s practices and participation in tanking his reputation.. and that’ll be easy for him to back up with previous deals and offers as well as his previous performance.. So yes, it’s angling at a bigger play.. but it’s also scapegoating a diss track for why his popularity has waned (even though that started before the battle).. and he’s complaining that his label was in on it.. he’ll get an undisclosed, lightly-reported settlement check from the big boys in 2 years, but it’ll also be his severance/retirement package.. in a way, Kendrick may have bailed him out, if this strategy works for him.. It’s fancy, sophisticated and probably lucrative tattletale/sore loser/b-made/karen behavior.. as a person/businessman, I actually get it and it’s kinda smart for his pocketbook.. but as a hip hop fan? “BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”..
The funniest thing about Drake doing a lawsuit is the Streisand effect. We're all going back and listening to Not Like Us again, reminding ourselves what a banger it is, and growing the numbers even more. Drake keeps playing himself.
@@24keys93 No its about contract negotiations and UMG trying to strong hold him. Because Drake had too much leverage now. His last deal was the biggest in Music History. This is why he did the 100gigs drop and dropped a bunch of content for Free, it was a fuck you to his label for low balling him on contract offers.
@ Kendrick dropped out of no where. You can’t just go im going to file a lawsuit and file it the same day, not with something like this. The suit needed to be put together which took a lot longer than a single day. His lawyers had to have been working on it prior to the album release… or there would be zero point of doing this
The biggest irony of all this is not like us felt like one of the most organic music moments in years. Thanks to Drake and his absolute grip on streaming.
My mother, who is in her 70’s and couldn’t name three rappers period, asked me about this beef. I heard Not Like Us playing in a country bar in rural Alberta.
My mom is almost 80 and asked me what was going on with Drake and Kendrick because she heard about it on CNN. 😂 Mind you, she doesn't know who either of them are.
Facts dude. Drake came to Texas to make a Latino song… shit flopped hard. Meanwhile not like us is playing in honky tonk bars. Kendrick made a club banger. Drake hates that shit. He has to hear “She’s probably A Minorrrrrrrrr” for a while.
Lol yes the song blew up every where. Everyone and their grandma were dancing to it. For Drake to not understand this and the impact as it relates to hip hop culture shows he’s all about himself and isn’t truly for the culture AT ALL. He’s a clown on so many levels.
Does noone recall opening Spotify after Drake released Scorpion and for literally 5 months after it would open up with a notification telling you to go check out Scorpion? Like did that not happen or am I the only one remembering it?
it 100% did, I had to block the album to make it stop. never listened to 1 drake song in the 10+ years I've had my Spotify account 😂 homie should sue himself too
Sir i have no recollection of these songs you’re referring too. All I remember is like that came out, Kendrick challenged Drake and after a month and a half of no response Kendrick said fuck it and dropped 4 tracks saying just the meanest things about Drake. I kinda can’t blame Drake. It was quite uncalled for 🙃
Is Drake gonna ignore the time he was literally the face of every single playlist on spotify after Scorpion? Bro was the face of "Best of British" He's not British.

I think Drake really can be this dense. i think he's so far up his own ass he could totally believe that there's no way Not Like Us could have such high numbers organically. Bc his ego won't let him admit it.
I don’t think he should. His business deals are lining up and he at the height of his career to continue playing this game with this lame! It would set Kendrick back. He’s doing the right thing by tuning out the noise! Even if Wayne come for him he should ignore them they’re not on his frequency!

What angers me in particular about this lawsuit is that it's so obvious it only happened because Kendrick beat Drake at his own game. Kendrick wrote a club banger that broke Drake's records and that is unfathomable to Drizzy. He doesn't give a fuck about the smaller artists (or those who don't get special treatment from their labels). He doesn't care about the malpractices in the music or streaming industry. He wants to be special and at the top because being no.1 is the only thing he thought was his thing. He is once again being incredibly inauthentic and exploitative. Drake's ego was so badly damaged not by the content of MTG, Euphoria or Not Like Us but by the success on the charts. That's so telling of his character and one could write a whole disstrack on that alone. Again, It's so fucked up to me that one of the biggest artists of our time with this much power in the industry isn't looking out for his peers, or even those signed to his own label, but only cares about that tweet declaring him and him alone king.
This! Like there are legitimate concerns in the lawsuit that artists have been talking about for yearssss but he f*cked it by attaching it to this bs. He's so selfish
@@oa7714 exactly!!! There's a lot of genuinely good points in the document but it'll go nowhere. Playlists being dictated not by genuine user interest but by money and whatever algorithm is not doing its job. I could go on

I could understand the argument a song had some nefarious push if it was some lowkey release, or one of the artists that get labeled "industry plant". But "Not like us" was a culmination of a very high profile beef, so it was already on peoples radar. Every streamer reacted to it ASAP, including AK, he literally helped the song go viral. And since it's a banger, it went from peoples radars to their playlists.
I never thought I’d see the day where Drake needs to use Kendrick to stay relevant. Not ONCE has Kendrick mentioned Drake or any of the beef ever since Not Like Us. Hell, when he was INTERVIEWED about Not Like Us, he gave it a whole new meaning and pushed the Drake beef aside, not even ONCE saying the man’s name or hinting towards the beef. He’s moved on entirely, And yet he’s still, as per usual, at the top of the game, breaking every record there is to break all while having fun with his people in LA and not riding anyone else’s fame. Meanwhile, literally, I have heard ZERO Drake tracks for the past few months; not even his new ones have charted (or so I’ve heard). But every single time Drake has trended lately, it’s been something about Kendrick and/or him whining and complaining about losing to Kenny, even though Drake claims to be “unbothered” by this whole beef (he’s so unbothered that he made, like, three instagram posts about being unbothered by the beef and even told his friends, such as Lil Yachty, to go and tell interviewers that “Drake doesn’t give a fuck”). And to top it ALL OFF, he’s now suing Kendrick’s label, UMG, and Spotify for apparently using “bots” to make Kendrick’s music famous. What does all of this result in? More attention directed towards the very desperate Drake while Kendrick is in the spotlight of the fucking PLANET. Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the all-new Kendrick Stimulus Package™️.

Thank You Fantano! 1:19 you said what I've been thinking since this whole bs lawsuit dropped. If Kendrick really did benefit from his music being artificially inflated/manipulated from bots or other means then it stands to reason Drake has as well, considering he's commercially far more successful than K Dot by most metrics even after their recent beef but I guess Aubrey or his advisors didn't have the foresight to see the potential blowback from such an accusation before they most foolishly decided to go public with it.
"Talk about him liking young girls. That's a gift from me." He thought that weak 8 Mile defense would work LOL. Drake deeply underestimated Kendrick's abilities in a battle context.
"I, a man who hires ghostwriters like it's going out of style, am going to declare a war of words on a Pulitzer Prize winner. Surely, this will end in my favor." - Drake, probably
I can see that coming up in the defense's case if it goes anywhere. "Your honor, the plaintiff told my client to call him a pedophile, and afterward said it was what he expected. Is it defamatory if it's such a common belief that the plaintiff anticipated and seemingly challenged my client to say it?"
Someone called him January 6th God and it's very true. He's suing because he knows all the tricks that he used to keep him in the conversation all these years. He's trying to prevent this song from playing at the Superbowl. What a lame
I don't think kendrick would even play not like us at the superbowl. For one he's moved on, and two, the superbowl might not even let him because of bars referencing pedophilia
Scorpion album? Ya, I do. I never listened to that sh**, but it even made genre categories that he's not even associated with. It's funny when Drake fans say Kendrick is hyped. Maybe a little bit, but in comparison to Drake it's laughable.
I am a nearly 50 year old woman whose heyday of hiphop fandom was 3 feet high and rising- I genuinely think I’ve only deliberately listened to one Drake song over the course of his career- but even I have played Not Like Us on Spotify dozens of times since May. Drake and his people are only making this claim because they've benefitted so much from artificially inflated streams, and they know all the ins and outs of how that works
beyond the sad behavior of filing a lawsuit over losing a rap beef (against a guy who is a much better rapper than you, like, *much* better, and the beef being a candle fire you more or less poured gasoline onto), what makes me most irritated by this suit is the fact that some of these anti-industry and independent artist tactics are only going to be challenged by a guy who had no issue taking part in these tactics when they directly benefited him. like if drake had just made a suit against UMG ages ago after seeing the shady shit they did to promote him and other larger artists, it would have been a real cool move. him doing it now just tosses a spotlight onto how shallow he is
bruh im an English guy, couldn't be more removed from the whole thing culturally, just love music & I was sat refreshing kendricks page when the beef was going down, then proceeded to bop not like us out at least 100k times since. it was just that good of a song, its just not one of them where you can be all "who is playing this?" it was EVERYWHERE.
1. every MAJOR artist has bots and pay to play. 2. Every diss track is made is made to defame their opponent. Drake destroyed meek. 3. Drake started it and also lied
I think it’s laughable that Aubrey and team think Kendrick couldn’t possibly make a hit that blows up without help. I don’t think he will come back from this. At least not in hip hop. He royally messed up his whole career because he throwing a hissy fit.
Not Like Us wasn't even on Spotify first, it dropped on Kendrick's TH-cam out of nowhere, THEN made it to Spotify after it already had like 15 million views
especially dropping it after Kendrick dropped GNX with ZERO promo, zero advanced notice, and it blew the hell up and went viral. Looks EXTRA bad for drake.
It would be funnier if it comes out that Drake have been asking UMG and Spotify to artificially inflate the numbers and he is just self-projecting in this whole situation.
perhaps, but i think its more the case that he is just disproportionately favored by algorithms that promote mid, in turn generating these higher numbers, i often forget how trashy the music people listen to is when they aren't terminally online, remember numbers ≠ artistry/quality
I assume every top artist does it to some extent. This lawsuit could be Mutually Assured Destruction. We'll find out maybe Kendrick did it, but so did Drake and many others.
The timing was too perfect - I remember when the buzz was about his ghostwriters - cut to hearing he had a child he tried to hide - then Kendrick - 🎶 and it’s far from over 🎶

@@mradhurley he is suing the record label for them distributing Not Like Us, because Drake says the song is defamatory. Tell me what rapper has done that before...
I mean, lets say for the sake of argument Drake was right, there is some shady stuff going on. What does it say about Drake then if UMG is willing throw one of their biggest artists under the bus in favor of another? Drake's already lost in the eyes of the public, but if even UMG actively sided with Kendrick, how pathetic is Drake?
I hope UMG brings this to court, I don't know if Drake knows what discovery is (canadian btw), but it's going to be cinema if they subpoena Drake and force him to answer questions under oath about HIS lyrics. "Epstein angle" "tell them that he likes young girls that's a gift from me" 🤣
I would like to personally thank all the Drake fans that helped contribute to Drake looking like a total punk. Y'all gassed him up after that mediocre beef with Meek Mill and then tried to shout "THE NUMBERS!" when Pusha T got at him just to make Drake believe he had the bars to contend with real MCs. Now he's out here trying to go to court because he lost a rap battle. Hell, Canibus didn't cry that hard when he got embarrassed for pulling out a notepad. So, thank you, Drake stans. You gave us Drake haters a real gift.
So, the substance of this filing is essentially: UMG wants to make money, so they used common industry practices in order to maximize their income. You know, like a company does. Thing is, if this does go to court, UMG will be able to use discovery to drag up all the times they used these same tactics to benefit Drake's songs. This is hot air from a small man who got mad and called his lawyer.
Drake is the type of guy who only complains about a social issue when it starts affecting him. No empathy, no caring about other people's lives. He is just a loser.

Now I am here, I've been listening to Kendrick's music more because I chose to and I'm also watching AF's videos and they are pointing me toward the songs like Not Like Us... etc etc.

I’m a Scotsman who’s currently living in Vietnam teaching kids English and for a straight month or two lots of my older students were obsessed with Not Like Us and asking me to translate the lyrics (which was fun, hilarious, and a rather difficult task to explain to someone in a second language). At the time I knew this song was breaking through on a different level. It was even playing in coffee shops and malls. Even if bots were used it’s a drop in the water compared to the amount of people actually bopping to drake’s downfall.
Oh that had to be a good laugh.

You got to put yourself in Drakes shoes, you go anywhere, speak with anyone and people are kind of talking to you funny, looking at you weird perhaps even going as far as to not bring their kids around anymore, perhaps even shooing their kids to their rooms if you come around their place.

What angers me in particular about this lawsuit is that it's so obvious it only happened because Kendrick beat Drake at his own game. That's so telling of his character and one could write a whole disstrack on that alone.

I guess it still pays to be the butt of the joke
but remember, its Kendrick that's dragging the beef and using Drake's name to stay relevant, obviously. 🙄
The new tracks he dropped were alright, but they definitely felt *empty*
@@nebula1931 apparently lol. One thing I’ve noticed is that Drake is exactly like his fans: very delusional, cocky, and a liar. I don’t know how, but he seriously still thinks he’s the goat even after all this.

The thing about the 8 mile strategy (the movie, not this beef) and why it worked is because most of that stuff was true….
I can see that coming up in the defense's case if it goes anywhere. "Your honor, the plaintiff told my client to call him a pedophile, and afterward said it was what he expected. Is it defamatory if it's such a common belief that the plaintiff anticipated and seemingly challenged my client to say it?"
Kendrick's "deeply underestimated abilities" were calling him a pedophile a couple times and calling it quits basically
Someone called him January 6th God and it's very true. He's suing because he knows all the tricks that he used to keep him in the conversation all these years. He's trying to prevent this song from playing at the Superbowl. What a lame
Lol I saw that comment on reddit
Funny thing is that I doubt kendrick would have played it at the Superbowl even if they let him. He has already moved past all of this
Yep he can't believe NLU numbers can be organic because his never were. UMG and Spotify cheated so much to give him the 1st spot.
I don't think kendrick would even play not like us at the superbowl. For one he's moved on, and two, the superbowl might not even let him because of bars referencing pedophilia
Would be iconic though, on his victory lap gets told he can’t play it but does it anyway
Does anyone else remember that time Spotify made everyone's homepage wall to wall Drake? Can we all sue Drake now?
Scorpion album? Ya, I do. I never listened to that sh**, but it even made genre categories that he's not even associated with. It's funny when Drake fans say Kendrick is hyped. Maybe a little bit, but in comparison to Drake it's laughable.

I am a nearly 50 year old woman whose heyday of hiphop fandom was 3 feet high and rising- I genuinely think I’ve only deliberately listened to one Drake song over the course of his career- but even I have played Not Like Us on Spotify dozens of times since May. beyond the sad behavior of filing a lawsuit over losing a rap beef (against a guy who is a much better rapper than you, like, *much* better, and the beef being a candle fire you more or less poured gasoline onto), what makes me most irritated by this suit is the fact that some of these anti-industry and independent artist tactics are only going to be challenged by a guy who had no issue taking part in these tactics when they directly benefited him. like if drake had just made a suit against UMG ages ago after seeing the shady shit they did to promote him and other larger artists, it would have been a real cool move. him doing it now just tosses a spotlight onto how shallow he is

He always have a high number of streams only. It is very likely. Especially since they got in trouble 2019.

Drake claiming all his haters are bots is one of the craziest copes this year.
So, the substance of this filing is essentially: UMG wants to make money, so they used common industry practices in order to maximize their income. You know, like a company does.
