Mary, many years ago, my sister and I wanted the same thing for flowers! She found one and put Mums in it. Then, one snowy Fall night in NEOhio, she heard a loud meow coming from the Bassinet. Sure enough, there was a small kitten, covered in snow. She took the kitten in and named her, Sally Snowflake. Sally ruled their farm for 17 years! 😘❤

I suffer from anxiety and pannick attacks, lately even more so with everything going on. I have been watching your videos for a few years, you are such a therapy, your voice is calm, your surroundings, diys, everything! I work in the health field so it gets pretty crazy during the day, especially Fridays! So you are my therapy this morning, sipping my coffee and watching your video! You are my adult version of Mister Rogers ❤

Enjoyed this video so very much Mary. Mostly the part where you and your sister are sharing your giggles. My sister passed 1 1/2 years ago. This brought back so many memories of us shopping, being silly. A sister relationship is like no other, beautiful. Of course it brought tears too, because I do miss her always but also so many beloved memories. It was sweet to see that you and Marlene share that special bond as only sisters can. I love all of your videos but this is my favorite by far. What I needed today. Thank you for sharing this. It really touched my heart. God bless you both.

I love pouring over china and old things in antique stores and thrift stores. I used to go to farm auctions with my mom in central Missouri and we both loved looking at everything. She would buy household items for my dad’s foreign students, who would be arriving with nothing for their apartments. The auctioneers eventually knew her by name and they would call her name if there were a box of kitchen stuff and ask if she were bidding on this lot. She’d get a big box of cutlery, cookware and bits and bobs for a dollar because people didn’t want old stuff. I have to really hold myself back when I go looking because I’ll see something I didn’t plan on buying. And I get it. Especially china plates. Any old Japanese, German, English or American orphaned but lovely plates and saucers fall victim to my eye!

I had one of those bassinets for my daughter 44 years ago. I made a yellow and white gingham smocked skirt for it. I was so proud of how it looked. She screamed every time we put her in it. EVERY TIME! Bless her little heart.

Love it when you actually find what you're looking for when you're out looking for it!! I can just picture a couple of big beautiful ferns cascading from it! I can't wait for the visual reveal. I still have the one I bought used when I was expecting for our daughter 19 years ago (I gave either $10 or $20 for it, that included the white eyelet bedding and ruffle skirt). I was literally just thinking yesterday that I probably should just get rid of it, but now I won't, even though I think mine rocks.

I have a very small baby bed bassinet that is wooden -- looks like the old style cribs but much smaller. I painted it red and have two very large night blooming cirrus in it. It has wheels so the plants easily get wheeled to the porch in the summer and back into dining room in the fall.

I used to have a booth in an antique mall. I had a bassinet that I painted a soft green, and then hot glued Spanish moss and tiny rose buds all around the rim and the bonnet. I sold it to a lady to use in a church for when they had baby showers. It would be used to hold the unwrapped gifts. I love the way they all look.

The bassinet is gorgeous. You got some nice things on this trip. It’s always fun shopping at flea markets and antique malls with your sister. So many things that were just part of our childhood or early years of marriage are considered vintage and frequently pricier than when we got them. But we’re vintage too because we’re in our 70s.

Hi Mary! My daughter, who lives in California, has the bassinet that was bought for my parents by my grandparents in Northeast Ohio when I was born. I was the first grandchild for them in Lake County. Since that time, and up to and including my own grandchildren, 22 babies have slept in that bassinet. All the parents have signed their babies names and birth dates on the bottom so that we have a permanent record. Ours even has the exact same pattern woven in to it. My mother painted the woven design at some point but it is now back to white, as it was originally. Thanks for sharing your purpose for yours. Debbie

I have a baby bassinet just like that! My father-in-law (now 92) slept in it first, then my husband (and his siblings) then MY kids (and the cousins) then my grandkids and NOW it is being used at my daughter's house for her 4-month old nephew she babysits every day. I LOVE that thing!

Mary, such a great shop along. I wish I had some nice antique stores near where I live, in upstate NY. I read all of the Nancy Drew books, when I was younger. I also read another series about a nurse, her name was Cherry Ames. I have no idea where all of the books ended up. I’m sure that in one of our moves or after I got married, my Mom donated them. The same with my Barbies. My Mom was a professional seamstress and she made matching clothes for me and my Barbie doll. Those were the days🙂

So much fun! I think I could spend hours in that antique mall and not buy a thing but just reminisce. My Mother had the same type of bassinet for me! When my little sister came along, Mama said I would stand on the end supports and look in on Janet. When my daughter was born she handed it down to me! Sure enough there were two worn places on that wood where my feet had been. I hope you enjoy that bassinet! I’m sure it held precious babies at some point. Again thank you for sharing your Amish history with us, and for the translation! I have some old catalogs from my great grandmother dated in the early 1930’s. The dresses are beautifully made and we’re $1.50 each! How times have changed! Love your field trip videos! 👍🏻💐🥰

Boy did seeing the bassinet bring back memories of when my sister was a baby. My brother and I were at the movies, while our dad went to pick our mum and baby sister up from the hospital. Opening the front door, and seeing our mum in the kitchen, and the basinett across the room, I remember running over and looking in to see my new baby sister. Thank you for sharing this video with you and your sister. I was also happy seeing you grab the cast iron skillet. I don't know how many videos I watched of you being at thrift shops, and antique malls where you just past them over. Cast iron in CA is not plentiful, and when you do find one, it's outrageous in price. That was a beautiful skillet.

I'm surprised the catalog survived. Mom (81) says they always had one in the out house. I also remember a couple of dry animal corn cobs without the corn (haha!). The out house was closer than the 1959 porcelain in the far reaches of the cold basement. Hope this doesn't offend. I'm a RN now. We can talk about anything these days. Love the shop with you videos. Once again, thank you for the memories.

I really enjoyed seeing all the things at the thrift store. I also enjoy visiting our local thrift shops. I could look around all day!

Loved the flower pictures! I too had a gold round mirror on my dresser for perfumes when I was younger! My older sister and me laugh so much sometimes we cry!

How much fun! I wish I could tag along with you ladies and chuckle and laugh! You have such a keen eye for beautiful things to re-purpose!

The bassinet will look great with flowers in it.

My mother had the exact same bassinet when she had my baby sister. She was a surprise baby (#5) as my brother was 19 when she was born and my father was 42, my mother 40. The bassinet was then used by my siblings and I when we had our children. We wrote the names of the babies who used the bassinet on the underside. Our parents are gone now but perhaps future generations (my grandchildren) will use the bassinet. Fun video looking at all the antiques. Thank you for taking us along!!
