Please note you can not test in a prong collar. This dog should not have passed during this attempt. But great demonstration of test skills.

Hi. My son was diagnosed with leukemia 3 weeks ago and we've been in the hospital ever since. He screams night and day for his dog, obviously money is strapped and I'm wondering how I can get his dog to become his service dog as easily as possible. She's 8 months old, Belgian Malinois. Would doing a gct be the best option just so she could be in a hospital with him? I know they need a task and I've been looking into the psychiatric aspect of it. Any advice is appreciated. I've also reached out to local trainers for help with no luck. Thank you

Hello, I am very sorry that your son is ill and I wish the best for him, for you and your family.
1-) Belgian Malinois is not the best breed to be a service dog.
2-) Train any dog to be SD you need at least a year of training. even for psychiatric SD.
3-) The SD has to do a task that helps your child have a better quality of life. otherwise it is an emotional support dog and cannot be in the hospital.
I imagine you are going through a very difficult time, but my recommendation is that you do not take this decision lightly and that you take the time to have the right dog for the job you want Him to do for your child. That you give him the proper training before he has public access.
I know it is not what you want to hear but I do not want to give you false hopes, I know what it means to have an SD and how much it can improve your quality of life, but I also know that if you don't do it correctly it could be a Disaster especially when you have a breed of dog that has a protective instinct (I have a German shepherd dog and choosing the right puppy is even more complicated, no matter how much you do it, it may not become a good SD).
      I wish you the best.
