I live in Vilnius, I like it. Vilnius is comfortable town for living. But I also like Tallinn (for Middle Ages atmosphere and port district) and Riga (for nightlife, food and bars).
I absolutely agree with all of that! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪
Nr 1 Vilnius 👏
Vilnius old town might just be the most spectacular in Europe! 🇱🇹
All 3 cities must visit all 3 are Great !!!
They are all cool places! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪
Vilnius is my personal winner!
I absolutely love the city
It is a lovely city! 🇱🇹
very boring
Tallinn for me any day. Great setting, great juxtaposition of different architectural eras.
That’s a great point about Tallinn being a juxtaposition! I certainly agree 🇪🇪
Enjoyed Tallinn, loved Riga and you have definitely inspired me to go to Vilnius
Vilnius is definitely worth seeing one day - stunning old town! Glad you enjoyed! 🇱🇹
Never really been out of the US, but i'm going to Riga in a few months for a couple weeks and gonna try to go down to Vilnius as well.
Yes definitely try to fit in Vilnius - it’s extremely beautiful 🇱🇻🇱🇹
Never been out of the USA. That's funny to be honest. 😅
@@kullulillu well im poor lol
@@alexnicholls1064 me too mate. 😅
Vilnius!
The old town is so stunning 🇱🇹
I love Riga, it’s in my heart, stunning city
It’s a lovely city! 🇱🇻 are you from there?
@@TravellingWithCon no, I'm german, although I have a little bit of Latvian descent from dad's line of family, and I live here now because my wife is a Latvian
I'm headed to all 3 cities this July and will spend a week in each one, and I'm so looking forward to it. Sounds like you really liked Riga.
They are all nice places! Riga and Vilnius I think are my top 2. Have a great trip!
Vilnius Nightlife very Boring
I have lived in both Vilnius and Tallinn. I will say that Vilnius is just amazing! I really miss that city and I think for anyone going to the Baltics, Vilnius should be a priority. For Estonia I will say that I actually prefer Tartu, the second largest city, over Tallinn. So for anyone that wants a prettier city I say Tartu over Tallinn. Riga I have only visited once, but it seems like a city that is well-worth visiting.
Thanks for your comment! I do believe Vilnius has the most beautiful old town of any capital city in Europe! I haven’t actually been to Tartu though - maybe when i go back to Estonia i’ll visit. Just out of interest, do you prefer Vilnius or Tartu? 🇱🇹🇪🇪
@TravellingWithCon tough question. It's a much harder choice than Vilnius vs. Tallinn. For a tourist, it makes more sense to go to Vilnius, but for me, who has personal connections with both Vilnius and Tartu, it's split 50/50
Super informative, thank you for taking the time to make!
Very glad this video has helped! Are you planning to visit the cities soon?
Nice vid you have made!
I live in Tallinn and can definetly say that the Old Town is a wonderful place here🤗
Thank you for the comment! Tallinn is a nice old town indeed - how long have you lived there? 🇪🇪
@@TravellingWithCon I'm Estonian and have lived here my whole life and I'm not even close to getting tired of living here! I love Estonia and other Baltic countries!
thank you, big help for my upcomming trip!
Glad it’s helped! 🇪🇪🇱🇹🇱🇻
Vilnius is an imperial city, it was the capital of a huge empire - the Kingdom of Lithuania, later the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It has a largest old town in Europe.
Thanks for the comment! It’s a very nice city 🇱🇹
Until the beginning of the 20th century, Vilnius was actually a Polish-Jewish city, Lithuanians constituted only 2% of the city's population.
Old town in Prague is bigger.
@@times4937the "polish" population were ethcnicaly lithuanians but they spoke polish because of polonisation in lithuania
Also lithuanian old town is most Italian city out of Italy.
Now I’m definitely planning to visit Riga to eat at Lido :)
Yeah definitely make sure you do - I put on so much weight there ahahhaaha
Vilnius is my favorite, but all three cities are great! It really depends on your expectations and taste. They are all similar, but at the same time offer a very different vibe :)
Nice to know! Vilnius is very pretty indeed - the most pretty of the three in my view! 🇱🇹
I have been there :
Russia to Tallinn by bus
Austria to Riga by plane
Slovenia to Vilnius by train
Great ❤❤❤
Vilnius is my winner
It’s a lovely city! 🇱🇹
Hi two friends and I are planning to visit either Vilnius or Riga during Christmas vacations and New Year. Which one would you recommend for that time?
Mmm now I’m going to be controversial and say Vilnius instead specifically for Christmas / New Year ahah. It’s a city that I can imagine would be lovely in the winter ahah. I feel like Riga is better enjoyed in the summer
Great video! The Baltics are imo (very) underrated destinations.
I have been to Riga once, Vilnius twice and to Tallinn six times! And I enjoyed all of them.
For me Tallinn is one of my favourite cities in Europe because it has a very cool mix of old and new architecture. It has the (super) medival old town with the city walls, roterman quarter (old and modern mix), telliskivi is a very cool place to hang out with lots of street art and noblessner / patarei / kalamaja area has very cool architecture too plus there's the Kadriorg Palace and its very huge green park!
And it has many great restaurants but so do the other cities.
Tallinn has more like a Swedish/Germanic vibe
Riga is a mix of Swedish, Germanic and a bit Polish
And Vilnius has a Polish influence.
You can't go wrong with any of these places. They're all very different from each other
Thank you for your brilliant comment! I certainly agree! Yes they are all nice places to visit - each with their own differences. Yeah I definitely feel Tallinn feels much more “northern europe” whereas Riga and Vilnius are a much more “central europe” vibe.
I certainly agree with the Poland comparison with Vilnius - I remember walking around the old thinking “this is just like Poland” 😅
It's not that Vilnius has Polish influence, but Poland has Lithuanian influence. Vilnius Baroque is unique on a global scale. And not only baroque. Gothic - St. Anna's church is unique. Also renaissance examples. In addition, Vilnius is an imperial city - the former capital of the Kingdom of Lithuania, then the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
@@arturasandriusaitis8832 vilnius is certainly extremely impressive! 🇱🇹
I don’t understand how you see Riga a city with a polish influence, Riga has many stunning art nouveau buildings on Alberta street especially, and this art nouveau art movement didn’t originate from Poland. It actually originated from UK, then it came to France, then Italy and then to Riga - but Riga has by far the most of these art nouveau buildings per capita in the world, and this movement was a artistic protest against Industrialization.
I can definitely see how Riga has some Swedish influence but overall, I see Riga as it’s own unique thing but with some Germanic influences
I remember a weekend in Rīga when the DM was worth 100 Latvian Rouble when I arrived and 130 when I left. The city was always great, but times were hard for the locals then.
Yes I can imagine that being difficult for them at the time - it’s a similar situation with the Argentinian Peso today I guess
Latvia’s currency were lats not rubles
It was the interim Latvian rouble before the Lat was introduced
As a Lithuanian, Riga is the best city. Architectural gem
Riga has great architecture indeed! 🇱🇻
100% agreed
Tallinn,Riga and Vilnius- 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹♥️
@@ERNESTASTANEVICIENE all three are great cities! Are you from the Baltics? 😅
I've been to all three cities (not on the same trip). They each have a lot to offer and, contrary to the general perception here in the UK, are quite distinct culturally and economically. Riga is the largest and has the greatest variety of things to see and do. The old towns of Vilnius and Tallin are very pretty but quite small and Tallin's in particular feels very much like a museum peice for tourists only, though there are things to do outside the old town - the Estonian maritime museum is great for example.
On the whole Tallin feels smarter and more economically advanced which is wonderful if you live there but doesn't necessarily make it intrinsically more interesting to visit.
The day trips are good from both Vilnius and Riga. Trakai in Lithuania is really picturesque and within an hour or two of Riga there is Rundale Palace, the Nazi prison camp at Salaspils and all the wonderful variety of things around Sigulda. It's actually easier to visit the Hill of Crosses in northern Lithuania from Riga than Vilnius. We didn't explore anywhere in Estonia outside Tallin, which I regret.
On balance Riga was probably my favourite, but then my partner preferred Tallin so it's all very much down to personal preference.
I definitely agree with what you’ve said! Especially about Tallinn - the old town certainly does feel really tourists, as if it was a “disney-land” designed for tourists. But as soon as you go out the old town it’s like a different city - very modern, very up and coming and very “scandinavian”
Whereas Vilnius old town was gorgeous and didn’t feel “overrun” with tourism at all! All three cities are extremely safe and cool places to check! (Much safer than the UK, aha)
Vilnius have the biggest old town out of the three cities.
Actually the old town of Vilnius is twice as big as Riga and Tallinn COMBINED.
You can verify this easily.
Also I’m very puzzled by your comment that Vilnius is smaller than Riga.
Population wise, Riga is bigger by 16 thousands of people.
By population:
Riga 609k
Vilnius 593k
Tallinn 453k
By area size:
Vilnius is the largest with 401 sq km
Riga is the second with 304 sq km
Tallinn is the smallest with 159 sq km
There are same canteens in VIlnius.
Ahh thanks for informing me! 🇱🇹
I don't dispute your opinions, but it seems that you did a poor job in Tallinn when you couldn't even find a place to eat with national cuisine, not to mention short trips to the small islands near the city.
Ah maybe I will have to give Tallinn another try! Do you recommend a good Estonian cuisine restaurant in Tallinn? 🇪🇪
I must say all three cities are very nice and must be enjoyed on their own.
Greetings to my Estonian and Lithuanian brothers and sisters!
They are all very good cities indeed! 🇱🇻🇱🇹🇪🇪
Nice video however when it comes to prices, I don’t know maybe you were in Riga during some festival that made prices higher, accommodation in Vilnius and everything else is more expensive than in Riga.
Ah really! I was in Riga and Vilnius last August, I do remember hotels and apartments being a little more expensive in Riga (at least on Booking . Com) ahah. Maybe for longer stays or AirBnbs maybe Riga is cheaper?
my observation as lithuanian first, its no comparable do to Riga its a real city with good architecture, Tallinn is quite nice city and has some good architecture, and Vilnius its some village with no architecture, dull and flat.
I’d have to disagree with Vilnius architecture! It has some beautiful architecture in the old town!
@@TravellingWithCon no, there is only few quite nice churches, nontheless you can find it anywhere in Europe. No real old town, "modern" architecture so pathetic there is no reason to mention it
I have been there. Great yourney 😊
They are cool cities to check out!
Riga, all the way! It is bigger than all 3, the Old Town in Riga has enough medieval buildings and Riga is the capital of Jugendstil of the world, with more than 800 buildings to explore
Yeah Riga is a really cool place! It’s kinda like a mini Prague (i think ahah)
@@TravellingWithCon For an American, probably :)
@@ervinvonhimmel well, for a Brit too I guess (since I’m british ahah)
Vilnius is the biggest
Sorry Riga is not bigger than the others.
The old town of Riga is nearly three times smaller than Vilnius
The capital city area size, Riga is smaller than Vilnius by 100 sq km
Vilnius 401sq km
Riga 305 sq km
Tallinn 153 sq km
By population, Riga is bigger by 16 thousands people only. The trend is that within next two years Vilnius is going to be the most populated.
Riga 609k
Vilnius 593k
Tallinn 453k
Visit all 3, they are close to each other.
Yes I’d recommend people do the same, if they can! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪
all of them!
They are all nice places to check out indeed!
Tallinn❤️
The old town is very pretty! Telliskivi was nice for bars 🇪🇪
Well I’m Dutch so for me these are cheap countries 😂. I’m looking to do a longer trip from Lithuania, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki to Stockholm.
Ahaha that will be a nice trip! Are you going this year or next year?
@@TravellingWithCon Maybe next year but it’s just a very general idea
Good, very good.
Thank you! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪
Vilnius
It’s very beautiful 🇱🇹
We loved Tallinn much more than Riga
Ah really! What did you like about Tallinn more than Riga?
I prefer Tallinn. Very nice and friendly people. Vilnius also has very friendly people.
Yes I did think people in Tallinn were very nice indeed ahah!
Like (Lietuva Vilnius)
Vilnius is lovely indeed! 🇱🇹 do you live there?
Vilnius for sure
Lovely old town! 🇱🇹
Makes sense because Riga is largest not only by inhabitants but also immigrants, tourists etc
Riga is a nice city to check out in my opinion! I loved eating at Lido ahhahah
That’s not true.
Vilnius is the largest by the area and inhabitants
Tallinn is the largest by the tourists
That’s not true.
Vilnius is the largest by the area and inhabitants
Tallinn is the largest by the tourists
My favourite is Tallinn which you didnt seem to like very much
It’s a nice old town! I just felt it was a little bored after a while, and it’s quite expensive
@TravellingWithCon no offense but it's probably your own fault you couldn't find things to do due to poor research
@@madmadagascar i visited St Olaf’s, Alexander Nevsky, Freedom Square, walking along the old town walls, Telliskivi - I certainly researched things to do… I just didn’t connect to the place as much as the other two places - just my opinion, and my opinion only
Well you asked the viewers opinion so I am giving you one. Tallinn also has occupation museum and kgb museum which you made sound only the other 2 have.
@@madmadagascar I’m not arguing your opinion - I appreciate your comment and opinion! I just wanted you to know that I did some research before. Tallinn is a nice city 🇪🇪

Vilnius is the lovely polish town, i like it!
@@felixbrintex3565 ahaha I hope we don’t start a geopolitical war in the comments ahhahha
Yeah, like Allenstein, Thorn, Danzig, Breslau, Stettin, etc.
Riga
Riga is a cool city! did you eat at Lido? 😅
You are few ones who prefer Vilnius and Riga over Tallinn. Its always like 90% Tallinn, 10% Riga and 5% Vilnius.
Ahaha that is interesting to know! Which one is your favourite?
No. Usually 90% prefer Vilnius, 7% Riga and 3% Talllinn. How could the Eternal City of Vilnius be compared with the former backwoods of Livonia, Riga and Tallinn?
@@arturasandriusaitis8832 Architecture. Vilnius and Riga have 17th, 18th architecture what is basic in Europian cities. Tallinn other hand have most well preserved medieval town in Northen Europe. 13th century etc..
@@arturasandriusaitis8832 In this sense, I can understand why the author of the video preferred Lithuania or Latvia. He is not interested in history, but in the VIBE and the preciousness of life. I myself would choose Romania between Italy and Romania. Purely because I probably have a better time there. Objectively speaking however, Italy has more history to see and is generally more popular. Also numbers and overall reviews are favor of Tallinn.
I'v been watching plenty of Baltic capitals comparison videos and yours 90%, 10% and 5% is just yours made up BS.
Guess I need to visist them all...
They are all cool to check out!
Really great to see the three cities again. I visited all of them in the last decade, but especially Riga and Tallinn. I loved them all too, but would pick Riga as my favourite, if only by a whisker. Incidentally, other cheap and fun places to eat in Riga: Vilhelm's pancake house and the Pelmeni bar, both in the centre of the old town. Not fancy (in fact Pelmeni has a kind of old Soviet vibe about it) but fun experience nonetheless. For a day out, you could take the train to Sigulda or Cesis, both have castles which I visited; most interesting.
There is no point in just visiting one. You should visit all 3
Yep go Riga its in middle :D
