Oh, Lynn. Such hard-and sad-decisions when it comes culling the old girls (and Hunchie) who have given so much over the years. Yet they wouldn’t have made it this far without the love and attention you guys give your animals. You both are the best.🫶 Another pair of gorgeous ewe lambs! Mom is very proud. 🥰
Yes, I find it very depressing and it takes awhile to bounce back but I do believe that we do the best we can for all our sheep while they are with us. I should be a vegetarian though 🙂
It is a sad day for sure. It does have to happen though. Those twin lambs are quite amazing. Perfection. I didn’t see Alexander zoom by today. 😂😂 THANK EWE!!
It is the downside of managing a farm, but a necessity none the less. Even with Hunchy, there was not another choice. She only made it this far because of your love and devotion to your animals. Someone only worried about making money would probably have culled her at birth. You guys have given her great care, therapy and a fighting chance. With her condition as it is, she would only get worse and worse over time and suffering would be inevitable. I don't envy your tough decisions!!🙏 Thanks for another great video!! Have a great day and stay safe!🙏❤
With both of y'all's love and caring hearts. This must be one of the hardest parts of the job. But, i know y'all know the best path and still make a living. Nice job. See you tomorrow
Tough decisions, tough day indeed. Hope you can find peace on days like this knowing that those lambs and sheep had a most amazing life while with you two….not all do, but yours always will. Thank you for your humane practices! ❤
The keeper rams, small lambs and ewes are all going to the same pen together. Suffolk market rams who can stand to gain weight for another week and Dorset rams are going to a separate pen. The heaviest Suffolk market rams are staying in a pen overnight and going to market in the morning. Question about the safety of keeping ram and ewe lambs together. I know at three months rams are ready to breed, especially Dorsets. Is it that the ewe lambs can’t be bred? You need to separate ram lambs from their mothers but not from their sisters (yet)?
That's right. However, shortly the ram lambs will be separated from the ewe lambs too. It is out of season now and the lambs are too young to breed so they should be safe. However, adult ewes are a little higher risk but even they are low risk right after lambing and out of season
The first-timer Rideau x Suffolk with twins… how did that happen? I could understand a ewe with a Rideau grandparent or great-grandparent, but didn’t you get rid of your Rideaus before you started this channel?
Well that looked like it went well. Will you keep more rams as the season progresses or did you decide to only keep the few you marked earlier? Oh... and the challenging 'ewe-not-a-ewe' lamb, did he get sorted ? I'm guessing you will go through this again in 2 weeks, getting the Dorsets, and back and forth. Big job, but fewer mouths to feed.
These are all the January lambs from the first group. In a few weeks, we will start on the next Coverall. The ram with the ewe-tag is in the keeper pen - Macho. Rams will be sorted out as breeders from each group. This is just part 1 🙂
I am a fairly regular viewer but I may have missed an episode here and there. I am wondering if something happened to Gimley or if you sold him? I haven't seen him in a long time. Just curious.
Yes sending lambs and culling ewes is so difficult. I’ve rehomed some old girls to a petting farm and a few I’m selling to some starter flocks. They are still good ewes but lambs may have to be topped up next year. They are bomb proof in every way but milk production is less now. I have one of my favourite ewes that was playing peek a boo with a small rectal prolapse so she will have to go as well. She is gorgeous in every way but she is a real pusher and stands on feeders and bales and she literally is causing her own prolapse. Tough decisions cause sleepless nights😬people don’t really understand these very hard decisions farmers make.
I don't wish you sleepless nights, but it is SO good to hear that I'm not the only one. I worry so much that it is hard to get to sleep and when I finally do, I dream about it! We sell off some of our old girls with a caveat that there lambs may require assistance too. But the genetics are there at a fraction of the cost.
@@EwetopiaFarms you dream about it too lol! I try hard to select good homes for the mature ewes. I have had good luck and some bad luck. I have to learn to sell them before I get so attached 😬 I’m not very successful at this🤦🏻♀️
Awesome video...!!! 🧡💛💜

Good morning!

Thanks for sharing even the hard stuff. It’s part of a farmer’s reality. Not all just cute baby lambs. Hope your week gets better.
I loved this video thank you for sharing your experience and journey with us
You're welcome and thanks!
Do u have a pic of Hunchie and lil Mr Mister was not faring well, what has happened to him. I love the attention and care you show your lambs.
I have pictures of them for sure. However, you will have to refresh my memory of #5 because I don't remember what his story was ?🤔
@@EwetopiaFarms the 5 is a typo
@@MompeaTexan76 Little Mister is still with us in the keeper pen. He just had his first vaccinations with the other lambs 🙂
It’s hard to cull the ones you love I am in the same boat this year had a first timer prolapse and it’s a no go for me she’s sweet ewe
Yes, unfortunately these things happen and these decisions have to be made but they are never easy and made with heavy hearts

She was a Suftex/Dorset cross ewe bred to a Dorset.🙂

Gimli is definitely still here. He is one who will be retiring here 🙂

the fat young lambs are the best ones for market lol
I know how much you hate this part of it, Lynn. But you have bills to pay, and that's the reality. And as they say, "No romance without finance!"
I know but I don't have to like it!🙂🥰
