  • How do you extend your visa in Indonesia? Is it complicated? Do you need to use an agent to extend your visa?
We read online that the agents are the best way to do a visa extension, however they ask a fee. Being the budget travellers we are, we wanted to avoid that fee and try do it ourself.
Online people say how they required 3 or even 4 visits to immigration, that each day it took hours. But what we found couldn't have been more different. Admittedly we did it in Lombok but it was very easy and recommend to do it yourself!

If I may ask a question. I have a trip to Jakarta booked for July 10-August 15 (36 days). I am intending to get the 30 day VOA on line and then extend it during my stay. When I originally check in with immigration, will the agent accept that my stay is longer than 30 days and I intend to extend? Thank you

Good question! They may need you to have a ticket booked for within the 30 days as its not guaranteed your visa extension will be approved. Our ticket was never checked at the airport upon arrival.
When you go to extend your visa they do ask for proof of your outbound ticket, we booked one for 60 days and that was fine, our visa was approved.
As you can see from the video, you can buy a "dummy ticket" for $10 - it may be worth doing that and buying a ticket within the 30 days just incase you're asked.
