  • Here’s a great tip from Taylor Stein on how to accelerate your designs with patterns and user parameters in Fusion 360! Once your parameters are tied together, control the entire design with a few clicks.

    So well explained and going to make designing parts way easier. Amazing video, thank you!

    Thank You! I searched for over 3 hours and tried many different way and couldn't get my "extrude" cutout to "revolve". Turns out i needed to "pattern" it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

    This software is amazing. Been playing with it 3rd day now and I'm loving it. And I'm not a CAD user at all. My goal has always been to do something in concept/entertainment design but i always found it hard to do poly modeling in software's like Maya $ Cinema 4D. I was looking into any other solution that could help me translate into 3D world & i stumbled upon Sketchup first, which was cool until i saw an artist called Kirill Chepizhko doing something in Fusion 360 and it just felt like its the software i been searching for to help me learn 3D modeling.

      Autodesk Fusion 360 Currently going through the help file. Loving the simplicity & explanation. I hope you will add more videos in the help file explaining the tools(as it seems i understand quicker though visuals than text) but, so far nothing has confused me. Kudos Autodesk.

    I've been looking for techniques to change pattern array parameters forever!! I thought that the paramters function was only for setting future parameters - not editing! A video should be made by you or somebody else called "Editing Pattern Arrays and Other Parameters"! Thank you!

    Why is it in the latest version of Fusion 360, the last step fails if the 'Compute' option is set at it's default of 'Identical'? ['No chamfer edge found?'] However, if you change it to 'Optimised', it works?

    It would be nice if you could select the parameters while you are creating the dimension or defining the feature (i.e: extrusion distance or pattern count). I'm surprised this wasn't released as part of the parameter system. Having to remember what the parameter name is, or having to go and modify the Model parameters to equal the user parameter. Cheers for the video though, it's a nice intro to using parameters!

      @@ScottMoyse Oh I apologize, I thought you meant to have the parameters window open as you create your entire design and adjust and fill in as you go, always having that window open. As I reread your post it's clear now.

    Nice video but how would you import the user parameter values from an external excel sheet or external google sheet so if you have multiple people collaborating on a model that they can all get the changed set of parameters when they change? This is a loose collaboration so I don't even know the people drawing the other parts but they are willing to post a CSV with named parameters such as number of holes, hole diameter, etc in a Github or on a google doc or in excel. It seems like this network of loose collaborators is a ideal sweet spot for fusion 360.

    Is there a way to write conditional parameters or lookup values??
    e.g.
    A shaft has names like SBR20, SBR16, etc. And various dimensions in the sketch depend on that name (SBR20 has 20mm diameter, 22.5mm total width, etc.) but sometimes not computable without condition..
    an SBR20 search in google images will show a table and explain better (cannot paste an image here for some reason)

    So I've Loaded a new file from an existing step file, basically having most of the geometry turned into bodies. My intention is to create a parametric design for the existing step file. When I make all of the modifications, I can't seem to find the "Change parameter" toolbar.
    Am I missing something?
    or
    because I import from a different file I can't use the parametric feature?

  • @ScottMoyse

    Also what's the point of the Favorites section in the parameter dialog? I could understand it being useful when you have hundreds of user parameters, but that's not all that likely.

    • @adskFusion
      @adskFusion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scott Moyse Hey Scott - It's a quick way to show you the parameters you truly care about. There are some situation where you might only care about a handful of "driving" user parameters, and not the "driven" parameters they affect

    I have a question: what does "suppress" mean when you create patterns?

    • @canti505
      @canti505 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On, it means you get the checkboxes to skip instances of the pattern. If turned off, no checkboxes for each instance of the pattern.

    How are parameters shared between designs?

    • @adskFusion
      @adskFusion  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Moore Currently parameters are not shared between different Designs. You can insert a design into another, and changes to the initial design will be reflected where it's been inserted, but there aren't currently any "global" parameters across a project.

    • @JamesMooreSeattle
      @JamesMooreSeattle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm constantly surprised by Fusion 360 implementation choices. It seems completely obvious that parameters would be available throughout, probably in some sort of hierarchy where you could certainly have parameters that are local to a design. But to have them be siloed into just a single design seems like a very strange choice for a cloud product.

    • @BonneWilce
      @BonneWilce 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Moore There is a workaround, there is a free plugin that lets you upload a Csv file, you simply update this with your user parameters and you can load that into every project, not ideal but works
