I absolutely love this guy! I have been following him when his channel used to be called Drunkens and Dragons before he re-Brandished himself as Runehammer.
Hank is such a great indie game creator. He makes games that a designed to be played! Simple mechanics like ICRPG's one challenge rating covering everything in an encounter encourages fast paced, creative imaginative play where players come up with unique ways of doing things. More complex mechanics common in other games encourage tactical play where you use abilities etc. from the rules in a tactical way to get an advantage. This use of a large number of abilities in a tactical way tends to take a lot more time but many people love that type of challenge. Both playing styles have merit. It's a game. Go with what you love. Personally I'll always lean more towards Hank's freewheeling, fast paced style of game.
I just got my ICRPG book from the mail today. I have plans to inject elements of it into a d&d campaign, and I am so grateful that this system provides guidance and encouragement to GM's. Glad to see that this is a relevant system today and that the creator is proud of his work, as he should be. I really want those merit badges though. It would be great to know what to plan for my players haha. I feel like I already did one in our intro session, springing a gelatinous cube on them. I want to make sure I hit all the other marks too!
This hobby thrives on its people. Not the books or the accessories or the toxic corporations. This guy is one of the best out there rn, making the rpg world a better place. Good interview.
Hankerin is the reason I'm more stoked about TTRPGs than ever before. His energy, design philosophy and shared videos on his own channel are what gets me super excited. Crown and Skull is his latest, absolutely fantastic game. Can't wait to run it soon.
Damn, why are you doing this to me? I see that map and I want to play your game now, too. :D Thanks for sharing! Just read the rules book, it's fantastic and well-written. I do prefer roll-equal-or-under systems but this is really solid. Well done @Alloyed-RPG
@@Gopher86 Thanks :) Well, at least Alloyed RPG is all out there for free on the website, so give it a whirl! And our writing team always loves to hear from players (a lot of player mods make it into the game).
It really does feel like a passion project of yours. I respect that. I'm well known for being a missionary of alternatives to DnD 5e in my circle of friends and at the University I work for (teaching Game Design, art and sound design for video games). @@Gopher86 - that is a very cool profession you have! I’m an avid board gamer, and the biggest contribution I make to the Alloyed platform is bringing solid board game mechanics into the ttrpg space. It’s like a fine sports car - the narrative/roleplaying is the body, the mechanics are the engine. Have an excellent day and nice to meet you.
Great interview, I've been a fan of Hank from his Drunkin and Dragons days. I enjoy his intense energy and taking a different look into what makes the game awesome. Subbed
Thanks Steve! I particularly enjoyed the part about GMing fatigue. I really think that some games can serve to bog down the brain. I'm always looking for ways to facilitate energy at the game.
Could even have a banner/tapestry hanging behind the seats of each player (like in the old castle halls). Why do I get the feeling we're all about to spend a lot of money soon? :)

He was a fun person to interview
Drunkens and Dragons Roll some dice and have a shot. Loved it.
I adore Hankerin's energy. It's so infectious and always gives me a spring in my step!
Definitely inspiring :)
@@Alloyed-RPG I’m often prompted to GM better after listening to Hankerin.

This channel has a video posting on Wednesday (6:30 eastern) on converting a D&D campaign to ICRPG (hit notifications). Hope it will be helpful!
Great interview. The OGL debacle has also led me to ICRPG, so I'm looking forward to learning from your channel.
Go Birds! 🦅🏈
Welcome aboard!
Hank sounds like he’s a natural Paladin. It’s easy when you don’t want to be naughty 🎉
I almost called him a Paladin in the interview! Too funny.
Great interview. Hank is a inspiration.
Thanks - he was fun to interview

He was super fun to talk with. Hank’s work was inspirational to the creation of Alloyed RPG
Targets were a game changer for sure. My opening session came close a few times to becoming a TPK
That’s a good start (or finish 😂)

I agree - ICRPG got us into ttrpgs after a 30-year hiatus. That journey led us to create www.AlloyedRPG.com

honestly I think after the Wotc OGL ICRPG will be in the spotlight!
I agree! I was looking for an alternative before the meltdown, but certainly would have after.
@@Alloyed-RPG I am currently making my own RPG and ICRPG has become a muse to me recently

Thanks for subbing! Yeah, Hank was super nice to talk with (fellow Philadelphian :))
Great video, Steve! And damn, B, thanks for the Monkey God love, my friend.
I think you’ll be getting a bump from that :). I really like this community!

It was a fun interview
Thanks Steve!

I hate to say it, but as goes the GM, so goes the game. That’s what attracted me to ICRPG in the first place - the facilitating of the job of the GM.
The avatar idea seems like a fun thing to try out
It definitely helps people get acquainted with each other :).
I would absolutely love to get a full list of his merit badge moments
By the sound of his enthusiasm, I suspect that is already in the works :)
Merit badges for in game accomplishment 🤔 I like that very much!

I got a buddy that plays a paladin or variation of one almost 100% of the time.
I hate to admit it but I always play chaotic neutral 😂

Bienvenidos al mi canal!

I'll say it : Norse Foundry ICRPG official coin set collab. Boom!
Glad you said it :)
I really want to see the merit badge list!
Me too!!
😂 piracy ftw. Honestly, the non game mechanic elements of the Master Edition are worth their weight in gold. Let alone the game mechanics.
It’s a great platform to spring from
I'd buy a set of merit badges.
I think most of us would 😂
Very relaxed interview! Thanks 🙏
