Have you, by chance, brazed a coin to a side plate?? If so, how would I do it? I was told to use 60/40 solder and to heat it up from behind. If so, how hot should I get the metal to introduce the 60/40?
I have done loads of various coins onto steel frames. using oxy propane heat and 46 per cent silver solder for the braze with special powder flux, it's not plumbing flux for this process, Sif make a suitable one. Basically red hot frame, introduce flux and a small amount of solder to where you'll place the coin the place the coin and then edge feed more solder and flux if required. The flux cleans the metal for the solder to take, it does go solid after so i use wire wheel to remove excess after cooling. hope this helps
