NOTE: I repeatedly referred to "nematode worms" in this video, and most of the time I was really referring to annelid worms. Sorry about that.
Thanks for turning me on to Father Fish! Tank is looking very nice!
This is suprisingly soothing video.
Hi David Reynolds, I really enjoyed watching this video, and seeing you being so relaxed, away from what I experience as an obsession with Buddhism, monkhood, karma, disciplin, ridiculous rules and regulations, "Arhants", "enlightenment" and similar almost comical serious subjects. I enjoyed hearing you talk about your aquarium and about your wife becoming interested in it as well and sensing the joy of you two together sharing these interests. Beautiful!
And now my QUESTION; I heard you mention the French Canadian biologist Jean-François Gariépy, a guy I have been following for some years now, and was surprised to hear that you knew him as well. I wanted to ask you if you are familiar with his theory of "The Revolutionary Phenotype" and perhaps have read his book, and if yes, what your take is on his theory. And of course, please keep us updated on your aquariatic adventures, and thank you for your many videos which have helped me falling asleep many a night, due to your pleasant calm voice and the absence of the disturbing background audio and sound effects that spoil so many otherwise enjoyable videos for me. I hope you are not offended by me calling you by your civilian name, but in this context I thought it was appropriate! 🍀 👍
Well, it's not exactly an "obsession," it's more a matter of Dharma being the theme of the Q&A videos. If the Q&A videos were on a different subject I'd be talking about something else. With regard to Gariepy, I've heard him talk about his revolutionary phenotype theory, but do not recall exactly what it is. The latest development in the aquarium is the snailpocalypse, in which the newly introduced zebra loaches (*Botia striata*) have killed off and eaten all the snails in the tank except for the few biggest ones.
Aquarium hype
I wonder how many comments Censortube will censor from a fish vid? 🤔
@@NPC.6 I always thought that the algorythm is doing this because of the bad words like shit and fuck. (just testing)
@@Julie-671 your shit and fuck comment is still here, but my reply to you earlier today is gone already.
It's weird. I don't get it.
Does the tank need to be cleaned and the water replaced every once in a while or is it literally entirely self-sustaining? Impressive nonetheless.
The bottom fish, invertebrates, and plants do most of the cleaning of the substrate and water. Also the new loaches stir up the debris on the bottom sometimes which allows some of it to be sucked into the filter. I change about 10% of the water every few weeks, and haven't changed out the filter material in probably over a month at this point. Ideally the water never needs to be changed because the plants and bacteria absorb the nitrogen and other "pollutants," and the stuff on the bottom decomposes into essentially soil. Still, I don't see any harm in adding some new water occasionally.
@@pannobhasa Incredible…
It's strange how much you physically resemble davidshurter lol
I don't know who that is
R u blind? No resemblance at all. Maybe u havent seen older men before or something
@@pannobhasa@DavidShurter1 is some guy from nebraska from what I gather
you guys look kinda alike lol.
more than kinda, very similar.
Aquatic critter sanctuary, you should build them a fish temple
Not a good sanctuary for the snails now that the new loaches are eating them.
