I use "Command" holders for my solid holders - to be honest I can't even remember where we got the majority of the spring collet holders - I believe I picked them up through Duramill on a budget. In my opinion, unless you're going for precision (+/- .001) the cheap holders are okay - it's when you're chasing tenths at over 10,000 rpm that you're going to want to go for the more expensive balanced holders!
what about hydraulic holders? I thought I saw a Sandvik 930 holder in one of your other videos. Also the drill taper you're talking about is morse taper
l0c0dantes I've done it on cutters with bench grinders the quick and dirty way, and on a real grinder mounted in a v-block and to be honest, I've never really had an issue with it. Manufacturer flats are always nicer, but typically you can just stick a sharpie in the set screw hole and grind to that and it gets the job done!
Yep, I do it regularly at work, just one of them things that you do because it works, but always in the back of my mind i wonder if it changes anything. Another thing I do to save time cos I'm lazy is grind the "Flat" on a taper. locks it in better with less removal I find. Anyways, cheers

What brand of tool holders do you use? Any thoughts on expensive name brand tool holders vs. cheaper import versions?

You ever gonna post again?
My apologies! I do videos over on the Practical Machinist TH-cam now - the Shop Talk series and Making The Cut series are both me! Cheers!
@@LetsMachine very cool! Apparently I was already subscribed, just turned on notifications. Love your videos man. Machining is life.

Thoughts about grinding flats on tools to use in solid holders?

nice nice .....keep doing sir,
Hi, do you know if an end mill holder and a tap holder are the same or are they different?
Tap holding collets typically have a square to fit the end of the tap, where as normal end mill / drill collets are round all the way through
That said, you can use a tap in a normal collet but you can’t use an endmill in a tap collet
Thank you!
Tecno Tor De Mexico is difference
