    Danny , good video. I really liked the way you just DID NOT hurry with it. I have seen people just rush . You cleaned and took your time to do the best job. This I why I think you and Wanda are so COOL.
    GOD'S LOVE and JOY.

    Good video Danny. Great advise on extra replacement rope etc. I have found that spraying oven-stove things with oven cleaner helps with cleanup. Jon

    We had to do this last week but ours had a really bad build up of old glue. Had to chisel it out all the way around where the gasket goes. Previous owner of the stove did a sloppy job of changing the gasket. You did a bang up job as I expected. Thank you..

    Thank you for the walk-through! Good looking out for us :)
    I have actually used some hi-temp gasket maker & some cotton rope on our Franklin potbelly stove just after hurricane Fredrick came through here. It worked (good enough) until we could get a proper replacement done.

    Good info. One short cut if you have or have access to muriatic acid it will dissolve the rust in a hurry. It can also pit the door if you allow it to stay on too long so just put it on , scrub a little and rinse. That will give you bare metal. Careful of the fumes too.

    Is there a difference between the gasket used for woodburning stoves and oil burning stoves? Can i use gaskets made for wood burning stoves, for an oil burning fireplace?

  • @garyreynolds5733

    Hi From Portugal. I was wondering if you put a gasket around the top of your stove also, under the top plate and also on the removable circular pan stands.

    What happens w/o the gasket in place? Does smoke come out the wrong way, or too much air get in and burn the fuel more quickly? Just thinking about your last statement with a live changing event - does not having a gasket render it unusable, or just less efficient?

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You get too much oxygen and can't control the flame. It can smoke back out too. It would be less efficient but usable. Thanks

      J&J Acres- One more problem- you can get sparks escaping through the unsealed gap between the door and the stove- bad thing, that. I had it happen to me last winter- good thing I keep a fire extinguisher near the wood stove, or my place could have burned down.

    Very good, simple yet important instruction. Yes, it is one that I am familiar with from my youth. Needed to be reminded though. Ya know what.... I like your usage of the term "life changing event". I have recently become disgusted with the overuse of "SHTF". There are always life changing events. Just a part of life. All these "SHTF" people don't realize it but they are not only living in fear but helping to propagate it.

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the way we feel too. No need to fear but good to be prepared for health issues, job loss, hurricanes, or major earth changes. Thanks

    Thanks for this. I don't have a wood stove. Sure wish I did. But, my best friend does that lives closer to the city. I will tell her about this. She has only lived in her house 2 years. It came with a wood stove. If something happens and she uses it all the time, this is need to know info! Who knows how long the gasket that is in it now has been there. The two winters we had before she moved in that house were brutal. So, I bet the previous owner used it all winter and then some.

    What is the brand and model of your wood stove

  • @h4l414
    @h4l414 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job on the install. Gaskets for a wood heater are nice to have but if they fall/burn off and you cant replace it, its not a big deal. The draft sends the smoke up the flue anyway. Hell half your old cabins in Alaska havent had functioning gaskets in years. Way down the list of SHTF items to worry with. A battery powered cm detector is needed regardless
