I have most of the platinum eagles, maybe in 10 yrs ,it will pay off.
Wasn't it the burnished 2007w with the frosted freedom is just the word freedom was frosted
Sorry my bad you are correct.. It was the proofs.
Most errors I can take or leave but this is something that is very clear and obvious.
Reminds me of a comment a guy made on Coin Vault (not Robert Chambers RIP): He said he bought all the Platinum Eagles because, "an ounce of Gold is never going to cost more than an ounce of Platinum.” Based on scarcity and commercial application, it was not a crazy statement. To me it shows the unpredictability of bullion markets.
Platinum is a metal is an opportunity that people don't know
BINGO!
Great information/education on Platinum.
What an amazing coin that you are showing !! That is crazy cool. Someone may not have realized that what they have is unique. Great information, Daniel.
Great video as usual, very informative.
Very cool coins, I didn't know the mintages were so low.
I was reading where platinum miners were laying off crews and even shutting mines because of the low platinum prices. My brother had his wife's wedding ring made of platinum and it's a stunner.
I never really got into platinum, the premium to buy this metal are pretty high and that always deterred me.
Thanks for pointing out the low mintage coins, I will keep that under advisement. Great episode, you're the best Daniel!
That's what all mines do, lay off, stop production, lower supply, prices go up, they start mining again. Why mine full tilt when prices are down?
Just imagine being down on your luck and finding this in your collection. Life changing! I honestly couldn't imagine. Awesome video! Love these, but still a little expensive for my budget.
If you still have a platinum eagle you're hanging onto, I don't think you're all that down on your luck. Some of us have no platinum eagles 😂
I had no idea that there were that many different reverses on the proof platinum coins. I guess I never bothered to learn much about that series because the platinum coins were so high and my focus has always been somewhere else. Now, I do like the platinum series that is covering the Bill of Rights etc.
Im a huge fan of the platinum eagles, i recently swapped out a lot of my random platinum for eagles.
Daniel, Another great video. I have been asking around for the reason platinum prices were falling but you hit the nail on the head. Scarcity will drive the platinum coin price to new highs. I was fortunate enough to buy a couple eagles years ago. They sit in the back of my drawer second to gold and silver cousins but looking to shine 😊
I bought a 2022 Platinum Eagle back in its year of creation for 1030$. Not a bad investment overall. Nothing terribly special with a higher mintage 1oz bus strike. Perhaps due to business production stopping, they will carry a premium later. Sadly gold and not platinum, nor silver are rising I'm wondering if I even made a decent decision. I guess better than no decision. I would like to get the freedom of religion platinum coin. Thanks for sharing Daniel. I'm in elite company.
I am amazed at the low price of platinum versus gold. Platinum doesn't have a long historical monetary record like gold only because of its scarcity.
Exactly it’s not spread out across the globe like Gold. Platinum is too scarce to be money, Gold is just right.
Now is the time to buy
The only platinum I own, is a 1999 $100 Platinum Eagle. Picked it up @ a local coin auction for a $1000
Greetings from Russia! Yes, it was nice to look at the platinum coin 1/2OZ. We have not minted such coins for many years, although they were issued in the 90s and in the USSR, recently showed on his channel the rarest coin of Russia, with a circulation of 900 pieces of platinum, the Russian ballet. I really like it and now it's in my collection.
Russia made platinum coins from 1828 to 1845. Initially 3 Rubles then also 6 and 12 Rubles.
They were discontinued because the value of platinum had declined and because platinum is difficult was difficult to use given the technology of the time.
All the unissued coins and unused platinum was sold to a British company in 1846.
This is well known, but the price of these coins and their circulation all make it very difficult to find them. Our numismatist colleagues sell coins with a face value of 3 rubles in platinum, and the prices are very high. I'm talking about investment coins in platinum from the 1990s.@@mikebarushok5361
Hive a great day
Good video Daniel. I am looking at what $100 Proof Platinum Eagles PF-70, (PCGS, NGC), actually sold for on Ebay, and considering how much the Spot is per 1 ounce they are a good buy. That being said it is pretty pricey per ounce and I am sticking with what I have been collecting, Numismatic Silver Dollars. Two of my favorite coins are the 2023 Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars recommended to buy from the miny by Daniel.
Those other 11 are out there, probably still in the mint packaging, stuck away in some grandpas safe deposit box.
After the kids inherit the collection, hopefully they'll find them, get them graded, and put them out in the hobby, or keep them, and continue to pass them along in the family.
I think some are.
Interesting Video. Wish I could afford Platinum. Thanks for sharing, Daniel. 👍
Wow great opportunity. Thanks guy the information Daniel
Another great information video, Daniel. I only own one platinum coin, and I bought it in the early eighty. I haven't checked the selling price for a while, but I have no doubt that I paid more for it then than what it is worth now. Thanks again, Daniel, for all you do to help educate everyone about this hobby and have a great day.
Thanks Daniel for the information on platinum Eagles. I've not really looked into them. They are beautiful.
Good video as usual Daniel, thanks
Thanks for sharing Daniel. 😎👍
platinum 35 times rarer than gold alway's a good buy
Thanks again, Dan.
A good share.
GOOD DAY, PODNA
Thought you were gonna talk about the frosted freedom 21 of each made. I have the 2007w burnished platinum $25 & $10 both ms70
Got the 2017 platinum Krugerrand only 2017 minted once off never again to be minted
Daniel, what's your thoughts on the huge discrepancy (G to S Ratio) of gold hitting new highs and silver still 20% off its recent 3yr highs?
It's a different world than it's ever been, old rules do not apply anymore. Technology has changed everything.
Is it true that the lower mintages are because platinum is harder and more dense than other metals, and that it puts more stress on the dies? You can buy raw platinum Brittanias, Maples, Philharmonics,etc.. for a lower premium
I really do not think that would stop the US mint from pumping them out. I think it's just demand. Out of all the hours of hanging out in coin shops, I've never heard one person asking about platinum. It definitely happens, just not like gold or silver. But you are right about platinum being hard. It's basically the same as striking pure nickel which is a notoriously horrible metal to strike.
I agree, the more they can sell the more they would make, demand is just low on these.
That was a limiting factor when the Russian empire made platinum coins for circulation from 1828 to 1845. They were in denominations of 3, 6 and 12 Rubles and cost nearly 98 kopeck to produce. They stopped minting them partly due to costs, but also because the value of platinum had declined.
@@mikebarushok5361 Super interesting! Thanks for that bit of trivia!
As a bullion it is too heavily tied to the automotive industry to confidently invest in. Unfortunately coin prices reflect the market price and if catalytic converter technology changes again I'm willing to bet it would lose another 50% in value. Most coins do not maintain enough value from a numismatic view to offset that risk.
That's always smart, eh? Looking at why prices are the way they are. You think gold is high maybe because of the computer chip shortage? People need electronics, but theres still supply chain jams. Idk, I think it'll dip in the next year or two.
Platinum prices are down because all the stolen converters and platinum sold in the black market from these thieves. Well it could be true.
