@SMILEVIDEOTRAINS They've changed a lot. Your videos are enjoyable too and thanks for them but most locos are the modern American locos. I love freight behind these but give me double headed 20s on MGR any day of the week.

This video was 10+ years after I had stopped travelling around the country.
Toton was the mecca back in the day. Even in this video it looks in despair, sad and forlorn.
I remember the network when I was travelling around, compare that to this vid and then to today's situation and it reflects how the country has changed.
Once a proud nation with a strong railway manufacturing capability and heritage, now reduced to near zero production capability and reliant on importation of 99% of motive power and rolling stock.
    Disgusting and disgraceful waste.
    Great video, great anger !

I think you'll feel the same when I download part 2................At least I was there to record those days 20 yrs ago....................I'm 76 so remember the 50s too.

      Mid 50s now.
I was lucky enough to catch a lot of the good stuff including a few trips through Woodhead behind double headed 76s, 20s and on to Sheffield Victoria. Several trips over Ribblehead, luckily that's still with us thanks, in part and strangely, to Michael Portillo, who was transport secretary at the time.
One memory that stands out is sitting on the grass bank high above Healy Mills yard, late Jan/early Feb and it snowed several inches deep but it was a great trip considering I'm from down in deepest Sussex.
Another memory that sticks in mind is when I was about 15, I went up to Scotland and ended up going from Queen Street to Eastfield depot. Walking through Springburn on your own, late evening trying to find the depot in the dark, was a little dodgy but great none-the-less.
All I had was my 35ml camera on these trips, no video.
