Keelung has one foreign cemetery, the French Military Cemetery. Those soldiers were in 1884 the Sino-French War came to Taiwan. An Offerings Ceremony is held yearly during Zhongyuan Festival (Ghost Festival). They will prepare French bread and wine to offer those French souls, and play "Amazing Grace"...... Maybe they do not know any French Catholic songs (I also do not know any French Catholic songs......) So they choose Amazing Grace......
Every picture in Demsui tells a story about Taiwan. Fort San Domingo was firstly built in 1628 by Spaniards but was destroyed by themselves during 1630s due to its reducing the number of soldiers in Taiwan. The Dutch rebuilt it from the debris during 1640s after they expelled Spaniards. It fell into British hands during 1860s and had served as the consulate until 1972 when UK decided to completely cut down the formal relationship with Taiwan. The French were trying to occupy Taipei areas sailing along Demsui river during 1880s but the attempt was in vain.
Laura

It is fascinating to explore and learn the heritages in Taiwan.

this is a good place/area and worth to take a whole day there then end up with the beautiful sunset
Yes! I wish we could have stayed for the sunset, but I needed to be back for the school run. 😂😂❤️❤️
Those historical sites are so beautiful and well taken care of. I really envy your sister for this opportunity except for the tunnel crawl.
The tunnel crawl was the best but! 😜😜😜

Awesome!
Thank you! 🥰🙏❤️ (sorry for the late replies!)
If you got chance, you can also visit “the Former British Consulate at Takao” (Takao is the old name of Kaohsiung).
I love that place but I we didn’t make it there… this time. 🙏🙏❤️🙏🙏
Are they Jacky’s parents? So adorable ❤
No. Jack is my brother’s kid.
This is my sister. 🥰
Maybe my brother will visit next. 😜🙏
