Kaya nga sobrang humble ni Regine dahil galing din siya sa wala. Mahirap ang pamilya pero nangarap ng mataas at salamat kay Mang Jerry.
I met Ms. RVA for 2 times in a different places, one is when she rehearsed with MSO in my school in 2012, then at the Angels' Walk for Autism in 2017 when I was awarded A5 in that event when she sang "Tomorrow" from Annie in her own version. Super special sya sa akin especially sa isa sa mga covers from Big Time Rush repertoire that would help me pay tribute to her with much honor at the same time!
She has a special place in my heart. Salamat Maam RVA! You did inspire people with your talent and character with class.
Ang tao, kahit gaano kasikat at gaano kalayo yung narating, lilingon at lilingon sa pinanggalingan at mga magulang na naghubog sa galing and talento nila. Nakakalungkot na wala si Tatay niya to see how she further shine. Pero kitang kita naman sa pagpapalaki sa kanya kung gaano sila kahumble.

I just checked the criterias on how to become a National Artist in the Philippines. And I must say, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid deserves to be awarded as the National Artist! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭😚😚😚❤❤❤
Regine was not able to contain herself and participated in the current messy Philippine politics by criticizing President Duterte. So it is very impossible for now for Regine to get that National Artist award which only the President can approve and grant. Lea Salonga on the other end can possibly get that award than Regine because Lea is just too intelligent and kept herself politically neutral even with the media asking her political questions all these times.

Ryan Cayabyab has gotten the National Artist award just recently. Effortlessly, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid will also get that most-coveted award anytime soon. RVA is a living legacy, and she's a pillar of the music industry of the Philippines.
She is one of the few mainstream artists who really, really deserves it. Regine Velasquez has brought so much honor to the country internationally, especially in Asia. And what's more, her music made a lasting impact on the Filipino music landscape by ushering OPM into the new millenium era sound which spawned a whole generation of singers that we have today. Also, not that this counts, pero nasa atin si Regine dahil mas pinili niya ang Pilipinas. One of the reasons why she stopped from pursuing the international scene further is because of the racism - international producers instructed her to not mention she's from Philippines and that she's a Filipina. Basta sabihin daw na Asian siya. That made an impact on her decision to stay and choose Philippines. Okay lang yun as we'll always have the likes of Lea Salonga for the international scene. Si Lea ay pang ibang bansa. Pero si Regine ay sa atin. Kaya lang, sa nangyayari kay Nora Aunor, parang ayokong umasa na ibibigay nila kay Regine yung Award.

@Renz Fernandez Both are equally deserving based sa criteria pero I agree that Lea should come first (I think she already does, dahil 20 years ago pa e nasa Sibika at Kultura/Hekasi books na si Lea) pero Regine at this point should not be a far second. Sana magkasunuran silang gawaran ng National Artist Award someday. Lea should be awarded for receiving one of the highest honors a singer could ever receive plus for paving the way for Filipino talent to breakthrough and be renowned in the West, and in essence, the whole world. While Regine naman should also be given one for her lasting legacy and cultural impact on Filipino music landscape in the 21st century plus for paving the way for Filipino talent to be renowned in Asia (around 1M albums sold in South East Asian countries, plus yung Asia Pacific Singing Contest where the international press dubbed her as the Asia's Songbird.)

I grew up around Filipinos and learned a bit of Tagalo and I can't believe how much it has changed. So many English words now. Even my Filipino wife says it's changed. But her primary language is Chavacano which she even says has a lot of English now too....
