- I build a smart doorbell that ties into my smart home using CAD, 3d printing, and a bit of electronics to solve a stupid problem brought on by having to use the delivery app "fetch".
Is this overkill? yes... but it does solve the problem!

I, too, sign my packages with “Meth”
yeah, methodical maker is a bit too wordy for signing packages... can't let em have the full signature too i suppose
Yeah true
Good project and work, good content! Hope you blow up!
Hey thanks! glad you enjoyed it! i hope it takes off too, but im not trying to rush it... as long as when i proof the video before posting it, i can say "yep- thats better than the last one", ill be happy! A big part of making is constructing a positive space around you where you can look at the things you have done and feel proud about your growth and accomplishment of overcoming challenges you faced. I hope i can bring that mindset more to the forefront in the videos, but thats where my head is at with it... just another skill to try and hone :)
Great channel dude 😊🎉❤keep up
why are the comments so aggro and hateful? awful site. anyway this is sick.
nice to meet you at open sauce!
thanks for checking out the video! what a crazy awesome (and overwhelming) event! already counting the days til the next one
pfft, doorbells are so old fashioned.
i use door trainhorns
oh god, don't give me ideas.... my SO would hate it... it would also double as an upgrade to the alarm clock i built.... hmmmmmmmmm
Why have a doorbell, no wants to visit you

Yes ❤
Nice ❤❤❤
But if it weren't for "late stage" capitalism, you wouldn't be able to post your tired trope video online for the masses to watch
This is such an ingenious argument Karl Marx is now dead. You killed him. With facts and logic!
Capitalism does some things well, therefore and critiques of things it does bad are STUPID! 👆🤓
"But yet you participate in it.
I am very smart."
yep, your right... i can't complain about problems that I don't have control over... as soon as problems get to that scale we should just roll over and be complacent and accepting of the face we are being screwed over for an additional few bucks on a 10-k form somewhere
The bit at the end was really funny I just wanna mention that first because that NEEDS to come back 😂I like the idea of a doorbell like that. It seems rather arbitrary that most smart home devices can't just connect locally into a locally hosted network. There are so many places you could take this because it's just a button. 3d print 2 more, use one to play your favourite playlist, the other to turn on your favourite radio show or sports broadcast. Very flexible idea there, though I guess buttons have been around since the beginning of time.
I understand your frustrations with the company that owns your apartment building, however I don't think the root cause is what you say it is. Businesses work in a much more complicated manner than things are this way so we will do this thing all the time. More importantly, customers work in a more complicated way than buy thing cause need thing. It sounds like your building has a pretty cruddy solution to a problem that isn't even new. Due to the inconvenience of this, consumers are less likely to choose to stay in that building, meaning that unless the company finds a better solution, they will eventually go out of business. I understand if due to circumstances you cannot move to a building not owned by them, however still you have a choice. The decision was made not to cut costs (because that system actually costs more than what we use here, which I'll touch on in a minute) but apparently because they couldn't think of a better solution. Not late stage capitalism, whatever that is.
Here in Edmonton, where I live, only luxury apartments have people at the front desk. This is because well it's frankly not needed and of course it's cheaper, which given housing prices going up as a result of little investment by the government into housing and high taxes on housing, is a positive that's passed onto the consumer, albeit they see that result less and less and prices skyrocket. Despite this, people living in the apartments enjoy security, stability, and especially, no delay in the packages delivered to their door. The apartment has two doors in the front, one of which is always unlocked, the other of which has an electronically controlled lock that under normal operating circumstances, requires electricity flow to open. This entryway is also equipped with a phone. All the phone lines in the building are networked locally to this phone, and you can call a room number from the lobby, who can then press a button on their home phone to buzz open the door for you.
I don't get this whole anti-corporate sentiment lately. What's even wrong with those doorbells? "They spy on you" bro they don't even know you exist
yeah me neither I wish people would take time to educate themselves rather than blaming capitalism. Some doorbells have some pretty questionable privacy policies but it's not like there isn't good options, and the only reason there are good options is because of capitalism, lol. I think most people would change their minds pretty damn quickly upon taking a macro and micro economics course.
They absolutely save your data. consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2023/05/rings-privacy-failures-led-spying-and-harassment-through-home-security-cameras
@@LindonSlaght Okay what good options are there? Please name them and their Privacy Policies
@@linus6078 Spoiler alert, a market gap does not mean capitalism bad lmfao
@@LindonSlaght But you just said that the only reason there are good options is because of capitalism? Maybe the only good solution would be cracking down on companies violating privacy laws. But "spoiler alert" fines don't stop big companies from violating any laws, it's just the cost of business for them. That's why capitalism ist bad, bacause in it's true unregualted form, monopolies are an inevitability that crush any chance of competition and in turn make the product worse for the consumer.
