- Shohei Ohtani, the likely National League MVP, made a rare English speech to the crowd at Dodger Stadium during the squad's World Series celebration on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.
KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
Him and Yamamoto were just lowkey hiding in the back and hoping not to get called so they won't need to speak English. 😂
as an introvert I can relate HAHA
Love them both!
Right after the video cuts he says in Japanese “Yoshinobu doko itta?” meaning "where did Yoshinobu go?"
If he had to do it so did Yoshinobu.
The real mvp of the entire season let’s be honest. He carried the last 30+ regular season games when mookie and freeman were out
That 3 run homer vs the Padres save them from getting the 1st round exit curse
@@agoodboi3781yep or it would of been first round out like last year
As someone whose memory of the Dodgers' PS games over the past few years has been burned into my memory, I understand how important Ohtani is.
Amazing talent
Freeman > Ohtani
For people wondering why he uses a translator: he does it for interviews so his fans back home can know what's going on. He speaks in Japanese for his Japanese fans, not for us. That's how respectful and loyal he his to his fans. The Japanese for the Japanese fans. And the translation to English is for us.
Chama❤
Partially true. But honestly, still no excuse. He's been in the US for several years. Many Latino players learned to speak English, including Fernando Valenzuela, David Ortiz and other names. Even Dusty Baker learned Spanish when playing in Mexico.
Seems like usual protocol for Japanese players to use translators to save face from embarrassment if they say something strange. Japanese always take the path of least resistance. I would know since I still live and work in Japan.
Ichiro and Darvish can speak English but Darvish still using a translator. Interesting that Japanese players get a pass on this. But overall, Ohtani and his handlers have decided learning English not in their business interest plus the Dodgers hired him for his demigod talent.
Exactly
@@cv5420 It would be a bit weird for him to repeat himself in two languages no?
@@cv5420 Come on man, equally, many latino players also do interviews, press conferences, etc. in their native language, including Andy Pages from the Dodgers for one.
Love this guy. Good soul in there.
Bravo, Dodgers 💙
We wouldn’t have gotten this far without you Sho thank you
Lmfao delusional his stat padded season showed in the post his bandwagon glazers wouldn't understand
@@The40Glock1 hitting the last 3 games with a shoulder injury 🤡
His English is so good! Congrats Shohei ❤️
Thank you!
Of course it is lol It's all about comfortability. Anglo English speaking Canadians who know French understand this if you're visiting/living in Quebec. When you're doing you're banking or other serious matters where you need to be clearly understood you're going to speak English lol
He so shy 😊. You did good Shohei ❤
I'm an asian, and when I first came over to the states, I was also very shy when I was expected to speak because I couldn't speak a LICK of english.
Such tremendous pressure. You could see it in Ohtani 😂
I'm so glad they invested in a humble superstar 🙌
我々日本人が一番苦手なノリ(heating up&Excited atmosphere)の中で準備してなかったのよく頑張って英語で話した!
Most asians are shy in general. Not sure why that is.
He got carried actually. Underperformed big time. Seems like s nice guy tho
The most humble of any athlete ever. Truly an honor for our city to have him as a Dodger !
What about Manny Pacquiao?
@@knightkid1235 Heck no. Absolutely it's Ohtani by far the most humble.. Never heard ontani speak about knocking someone out. And then complain about getting beat like Pacquiao does.. I've never heard Ontani complain or talk about beating someone up
@@christonefeltzs5149bro... Pacquiao's sport is to beat someone up, what did you expect him to say lol. I'd still give ohtani an edge in terms of humility over Pacquiao tho
John Stockton
i wouldnt call someone who lied about illegal gambling humble
Thank you, Shohei Ohtani 💯💙🏆🐐🙏🏽
Your welcome
He’s so precious
Love Ohtani! ❤
Our humble king. Go Shohei!!!
Shoei is awesome
🧢🏆 G.O.A.T.ani now. He carried the team throughout the season and into the World Series, where his team picked him up and carried him into eternal glory.
💯
He played a season of DH and now he's the goat? Lmao
hes the goat my dawg....no one like him homey

Ohtani GOAT
@@tohi2283 people can "try" to talk crap about his struggles in the Series. People need to look back over the season and see how Ohtani carried the team especially once moving into the lead off position.
@@LamarFaciane
I agree just having Ohtani in the lineup puts additional strain on pitching and opponents defense.
Glad to have Ohtani on the Dodger’s Blue Wrecking Crue!!!
Goatani
@@LamarFacianesince he has become the designated hitter people haven't even talked about how great of a picture he was before getting injured.. so he'll be back next year throwing heat and knocking them out the park I assume he's going to return to double duties maybe not I don't know I guess only the team knows just speculating but you'll have somebody reading this comment and they're claim they have all the answers 👌

Ohtani's got such genuine goodness in him. Extremely rare one to find these days for sure.
god is with him no doubt and he is with god

That's awesome too hear him speaking English
You can't help but love him he's so adorable
And Decoy ❤
Would be the perfect Yankee since he doesn't have any facial hair and a very talented player to boot.

Man I love this dude. He is the best all around best Baseball player ever and yet humble as they come. And I'm a Mets fan.
Should be special to "love" someone in that way, he doesn't even know you are.😢😢😢
Thank you Shohei for all your hard work! What a gift! Blessings and good health!
It's such a pleasure to witness greatness and for it to be so demure
As an Angels fan I got really excited watching this. He is just so good.
Sad him and Trout weren't enough to bring the Angels to a title but happy for Shohei on his incredible season
Honestly I admire Shohei so much. Such an inspiration.
Shohei should be more highly rated. Of course, Teoscar also hit when it mattered. Shohei played every game while Mookie, Freddie, and Muncy were out due to injury, leading the Dodgers' batting line and filling in the gaps. He led the team on offense. He was 54/59 and contributed greatly with 130 RBIs. When Mookie, Freddie, and Muncy were out, Shohei hit 54 home runs and stole 59 bases. I want everyone to remember how much Shohei supported the Dodgers' offense.
Man, I cried, no lie. He's amazing...
And your simple words made us so heart-warming, thanks from Tokyo !
🏳️🌈
Shohei transformed the Dodgers into a unstoppable, scary, super team.
I think not only his talent but the fact of him willing to be paid 2 million a year for 10 years to win Championships draws a lot of elite players who want the same thing.
Shohei is the founder of the 50/50 club. I enjoyed every second of what he said in English.
The very first one of 50/50 😊❤
Shohei is a classy guy fitting right in very well with the Dodgers organization. Thank you Stan, Magic and company for making it happen.
As an Angels fan…I will always be thankful for how much excitement he brought to my lackluster squad! You’re the man Sho, no real
Angel fan is upset with your decision to move on to better pastures. Shohei as a champ and playing on the biggest stage is what’s best for baseball! Congrats Dodgers…hopefully in 50 years my halos will be relevant again and maybe, just maybe we can have a legit Freeway series!
Shohei is so awesome man
So proud of this team!!
Really? Because they cheat. Cool
wow I've been waiting for this for so long
Liked 100 times!!!
Favorite baseball player!!
Omedetou Gozaimasu Ohtani-San!
💙💙💙Go Shohei Ohtani 💙💙💙💙💙 Congratulations Dodgers on your World Series win from a NorCal fan.
EVERY DODGER PLAYER should be thanking Shohei. They don't get to the World Series without him
As much as Shohei is thanking his teammates for working together. Something he never had as an Angel before. He did a lot of heavy lifting for sure, but they won this championship as a team effort top to bottom.
they were eliminated every year till he came
@@tednguyen7258 Yup, the Dodgers never won a full-season World Series since 1988, then they signed Ohtani and all the haters said they'd be laughing when 700 million doesn't buy a World Series. Who's laughing now?
700 million dollar is thanks enough... 😅
@@gabynarufanHe earned it.
Love it!!
Shohei Ohtani is the main protagonist of this baseball Anime 😅🌟
Wonderful!
Congratulations to dodgers, I'm a PADRES fan. I have a huge respect to this team well deserved .
Yes Dodgers deserve respect they played very well and had some rough patches with injuries in the regular season. I was expecting a tighter series from the Yankees, but Dodgers out did them. New York can be back if they keep Soto and they have another good regular season like this one. It's all good for the game and I'm happy I can be happy for other teams when my Blue Jays fell on their faces in 2024. Dodgers and Yankees play some real baseball!
パドレスとの対戦が一番白熱したよ
The real World Series was Padres v Dodgers TBH
Dodgers and Padres, both credited for putting West Coast on the baseball map.
Quite a series it was. Hope they continue to elevate each other.
Awesome HUMILITY

Cool! Shohei Ootani.
His English is great! We love having him in Los Angeles, but especially on the Dodgers!

The sound of the cheer from the crowd was so satisfying!
Shohei Goatani !
Not only are my Dodgers champions, but they have so much fun and you can tell the comradery. It reminds me of when I was in the military. They become your second family.
don't be shy!!! SHOHEI😂
I love the way rhe love him❤
Awesome. Congrats to Ohtani and TEAM Dodgers!
Love you ohtani ❤❤❤❤❤
Shohei is the best player in baseball and the best ambassador for the sport
His English is SO good! I had no idea that he spoke so well. I thought that he only knew a couple of words.
He sounds really good! Love it that he chose to address the crowd in English!
Dodgers are so lucky to have him 😂😂😅❤
We need more Shohei’s in professional sports. Not only his skill set but him being an excellent role model to anyone at any age.
Living legend of baseball!
I never thought that an athlete beyond Messi or Jordan could be born from my country. Ohtani is the pride of the Japanese people and a godlike figure.
AWESOME!
this is the first time i heard ohtani speaking English man that was nice
GOAT congrats 🎉🎉
They should have added Yoshinobus English part at the end 😅
AWESOME!!!
His English is really cool ⚡️
Love this guy!
Congrats young goat
The players have been saying they had no trouble talking English with him - it was a huge moment for the fans for him to finally talk directly to them. I think he probably continues to do interviews with the interpreter just to make sure everything is clearly understood on both sides.
I’m shock right now Shohei Ohtani speaking English really cool
He's done it before. I think in an interview early in the season he was learning n taking lessons
He probably speaks Spanish, too😂
@ Shohei Ohtani learning little bit of Spanish
@@MrBestardThere’s clips of him speaking Spanish with his Latino teammates! On a side note, it seems like he’s the only one that didn’t drink today. All of his teammates were visibly buzzed, slurring their words on the microphone.

Ohtanis the best
It’s just makes me smile how he speaks English
The Dodgers fans really know how to party!!
See I can appreciate and respect the guys from other countries, speak their native language not because they don't understand English, but rather they don't want to say the wrong thing and get canceled. Shohei is a good English communicator. I'm not shocked but love to see him open that shell
Wow...he's so humble,, in every sports we have seen lots of ohtanis.,steph currys, lebrons, kclarks, tigerwoods, messis, ronaldos, mjs, djokovic, tatums, alcaraz, pmahomes, pacquiaos, bbonds,,but with Ohtani,,,a new world role model..his hard work pays a huge reward,,,so there u go..kids,,wherever ur from..keep dreaming..be like them..work hard too.. and you will be rewarded. gd luck..and GOD bless us all
Wow. He’s improving his Language skills in English! Very good!
Thank you Shohei! Thank you Dodgers!
Team mates know he can speak English well but he is shy and he wants to deliver his words right so he uses an interpreter
内気ならメジャーリーグへ挑戦しません
No. He can speak *simple* English. When being interviewed however, requires you to use a more complicated series of words for public relations, and you know how it is easy to make one small mistake for a misunderstanding to blow out of proportions.
I’d rather see him talk in Japanese during interviews. He’s here to play baseball not manifest destiny.
This man is so cool 😎 a true role model for the youth
Yeah agree
Bro became the greatest baseball player in history and he’s still humble and shy. His love of baseball is inspiring.
Love that he overcame the nerves and stepped up and the support from his team… omg 🥹🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💙
That was wholesome
Already the greatest baseball player to ever play the game and his modesty shows it.
A VERY GRACEFUL SPEECH!
You can tell this is probably the most nervous he's ever been. Pitching and hitting in the same game at the WBC, doesn't faze him, because he knows he's worked harder and is more prepared than anyone.
I was in the crowd today.. it was the loudest we got the entire day.. it was so unexpected!!
Ohtani (17).
Make a comeback as a pitcher next year. 🤾
Heal the left shoulder you hurt in the World Series.

Yamamoto (18).
Next season (2025),
Over 15 wins.⭕
Have more games where QS is successful.
Talk to other pitchers about pitching.
You must have noticed something.💡💡💡
Short and sweet,,👍👍👏👏👏
It's absolutely fascinating how everyone, including some Dodgers fans conveniently developed a selective memory about Ohtani's injury in game 2, magically erased the fact that he was basically playing with one arm tied behind his back throughout the entire World Series. I mean, really, how dare he not hit home runs with a dislocated shoulder as if he’s in some kind of superhero movie? Clearly, he should have just shrugged off that pesky medical condition and swung for the fences like nothing happened, right?
They also completely glossed over the fact that, before the injury, Ohtani was the one who tied it up 2-2 in the 8th inning of Game 1, like he didn’t set the stage for Freddie’s grand slam heroics that shattered the Yankees' morale, playing a massive role in swinging the WS momentum in the Dodgers' favor.
It's like these casuals took a crash course in unrealistic expectations. Do they think Ohtani is some kind of wizard who can snap his fingers and make injuries vanish? One can't help but wonder if these critics were dropped on their heads as infants. To expect a player, literally battling through pain, to still dominate and then berate him for not living up to those impossible standards is, well, as baffling as expecting a fish to climb a tree.
You've got to love the Japanese players with their humility and respect.
Arigato, Ohtani-san!
He has great English!
오타니 최고! 야마모토도 귀엽다
When the GOAT speaks! BOW DOWN 💙
I watched the WS for the first time in years - cuz of Shohei.
I have never followed or supported the Dodgers as a team but I do support and follow Ohtani. So, if he wins and the Dodgers win, its ok with me. He is the best baseball has had to offer since the Golden Era of the 1950s and 1960s when Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax, Banks, Yogi, Mantle, and so many more were the stars of the game. If he inspires more kids and all people to be as devoted to his craft as he is, including baseball, he will be a legend for all time.
People forget or don't know that Sho actually speaks pretty good english, only reason he uses a translator is for all his Japanese fans back home 🇯🇵
Na its because he is afraid he might get misunderstood during interviews thats why he uses interpreter
Damn...that was actually impressive
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
