For people wondering why he uses a translator: he does it for interviews so his fans back home can know what's going on. He speaks in Japanese for his Japanese fans, not for us. That's how respectful and loyal he his to his fans. The Japanese for the Japanese fans. And the translation to English is for us.

Partially true. But honestly, still no excuse. He's been in the US for several years. Many Latino players learned to speak English, including Fernando Valenzuela, David Ortiz and other names. Even Dusty Baker learned Spanish when playing in Mexico.
Seems like usual protocol for Japanese players to use translators to save face from embarrassment if they say something strange. Japanese always take the path of least resistance. I would know since I still live and work in Japan.
Ichiro and Darvish can speak English but Darvish still using a translator. Interesting that Japanese players get a pass on this. But overall, Ohtani and his handlers have decided learning English not in their business interest plus the Dodgers hired him for his demigod talent.

Shohei should be more highly rated. Of course, Teoscar also hit when it mattered. Shohei played every game while Mookie, Freddie, and Muncy were out due to injury, leading the Dodgers' batting line and filling in the gaps. He led the team on offense. He was 54/59 and contributed greatly with 130 RBIs. When Mookie, Freddie, and Muncy were out, Shohei hit 54 home runs and stole 59 bases. I want everyone to remember how much Shohei supported the Dodgers' offense.

The players have been saying they had no trouble talking English with him - it was a huge moment for the fans for him to finally talk directly to them. I think he probably continues to do interviews with the interpreter just to make sure everything is clearly understood on both sides.

No. He can speak *simple* English. When being interviewed however, requires you to use a more complicated series of words for public relations, and you know how it is easy to make one small mistake for a misunderstanding to blow out of proportions.
I’d rather see him talk in Japanese during interviews. He’s here to play baseball not manifest destiny.

Make a comeback as a pitcher next year. 🤾
Heal the left shoulder you hurt in the World Series.

    Yamamoto (18).
    Next season (2025),
    Over 15 wins.⭕
Have more games where QS is successful.
Talk to other pitchers about pitching.

It's absolutely fascinating how everyone, including some Dodgers fans conveniently developed a selective memory about Ohtani's injury in game 2, magically erased the fact that he was basically playing with one arm tied behind his back throughout the entire World Series. I mean, really, how dare he not hit home runs with a dislocated shoulder as if he’s in some kind of superhero movie? Clearly, he should have just shrugged off that pesky medical condition and swung for the fences like nothing happened, right?
They also completely glossed over the fact that, before the injury, Ohtani was the one who tied it up 2-2 in the 8th inning of Game 1, like he didn’t set the stage for Freddie’s grand slam heroics that shattered the Yankees' morale, playing a massive role in swinging the WS momentum in the Dodgers' favor.
It's like these casuals took a crash course in unrealistic expectations. Do they think Ohtani is some kind of wizard who can snap his fingers and make injuries vanish? One can't help but wonder if these critics were dropped on their heads as infants. To expect a player, literally battling through pain, to still dominate and then berate him for not living up to those impossible standards is, well, as baffling as expecting a fish to climb a tree.

I have never followed or supported the Dodgers as a team but I do support and follow Ohtani. So, if he wins and the Dodgers win, its ok with me. He is the best baseball has had to offer since the Golden Era of the 1950s and 1960s when Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax, Banks, Yogi, Mantle, and so many more were the stars of the game. If he inspires more kids and all people to be as devoted to his craft as he is, including baseball, he will be a legend for all time.
