I don’t think the growth rate will continue at the rate it is for much longer.
Going from 2 EB to 4 EB is double, but 20 EB to 40 EB is also double and probably won’t happen over a few days.
The space will grow, but we need to stop thinking that 100% growth rate in a few days will continue for years and years.
However, it is possible and so is time travel.

Also a good option to consider is getting a x99 motherboard either used or from AliExpress for around 120 dollars and pair it with a 12 core Xeon for about 100 dollars, if you have some other parts like a case, psu, etc. lying around, you can build a very good system for cheap.

@@iamjacksundyingaddiction6595 better work out how you're going to store the plots you're producing after a few weeks, and how you're going to transfer them off your plotting box in time to keep it from bogging down, if you're that budget sensitive. 40 plots a day x 108GB = 4.32TB of plots a day. At going prices for in-stock 8TB drives, that's about $750 in farm space a week. $3,000 a month. And that's before considering what's going to host all those drives as they pile up. Consider whether you really need or want that much plotting capacity, if it's just going to sit around for want of static storage.

Thank you for the inspirational videos. Based on this I looked for used computers around my area. I found a HP Z600 with dual X5650 processors. According to geekbench benchmarks, they should have around 60% the performance of an E5-2690. I paired this with 24gb ram and 1tb NVME SSD, hoping to get 20 plots a day. Unfortunately, I have only been able to plot 10 plots a day, 4 in parallel with 9 hours on average per plot. I'm still trying to figure out what is slowing me down so much.

The 2TB PNY CS3030 has a TBW of 3115 TB, nearly on parity with the Sabrent Rocket's 3600, and much higher than most off the shelf SSDs, but for much less. ~$270 vs ~$400 for the Sabrent. I think the PNY is the best bang/reliability for the buck if you're looking for plotting SSDs.
    [edit] I miss-typed the PNY model. It's the CS3030, not the CS2130.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Corsair MP600 2TB 3600 TWB, currently for about ~400$, the best bang per bucks drive so far. 0.035$/plot if you plan to plot 9500 plots.
I have one with 3720 TWB written, and it still works and claims 95% used.
I have tried few SSDs, various generations...they still do same plotting time because they all use same NAND, Phison controllers. Only thing that changes is price per plot.
If you can afford Intel Optane, they have same $/plot...but you need 2000$, while plotting 20k plots.

Thank you for the informative videos! They are very helpful. I was wondering if you could provide swar settings for each of these builds. While the parts list and details about each is very helpful, once you get your hands on a similar build, I think it would be super helpful to see what configs would give you the 30-40 plots being discussed. Thanks again for the great work!

Question about upgrades -- like LSI controllers and such -- does using a Precision mean not worrying about "IT mode" flashing of Dell server components? It seems that getting off-the-shelf used Dell can be cheaper than OEM, but usually carries warnings about compatibility or ability to upgrade firmware outside of Dell servers.

You missed a very important point in the video, for me the most important. Show how you are staggering, settings for each plot (mem and cores), what is your delay, how long are you taking for each plot and how many in parallel. This would help to make sense on the math. I got 2 machines with 8 cores (1x i9 and 1x Ryzen 3700X), both with 2TB NVMe (one is the fast MP600), got 32GB of RAM on each and to get 6.1/2 hours per plot I need to stagger them at 90min each. I can only get 13 plots a day on each and that is pushing. Would love to see your math because I am clearing doing something wrong.
