I was born and raised in upstate New York (Gloversville). I left home at 18 to serve in the US Navy. A year later, I returned during the fall season and I was crying tears looking at the rolling hills of reds, yellows, browns, oranges, and greens. I didn't notice how beautiful my "home" was until I left and came back with fresh eyes. You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone.

I live outside New Orleans, Louisiana, and its streets are legendary for potholes. One got so big, and the city repeatedly failed to respond to pleas to fix it, that the local residents lined it with plastic sheeting, set up beach chairs, coolers, and umbrellas, filled it with water, and made it into a pool. Videos of them relaxing in and around the pothole finally embarrassed the city enough that they fixed it.

The bridge you saw on the Blue Ridge Parkway part of the film is the Linn Cove Viaduct. They built the bridge by starting on each end and meeting in the middle. Each section is huge and are hollow inside. My husband and I were both working on the Parkway while it was being built and got to walk inside the bridge and walk out to the opening of our section. The view was spectacular!

It feels like we're watching the kids grow up right before our eyes. And the couple of minutes of conversation about shopping and who loves what season really feels like we get to know this family.
I will also add, in Lea's defense, that I do all the shoveling in front of my house and unbury the car every time it snows. Yeah, it can be physically tiring, but I still love the snow and enjoy when it snows a lot. There's just something about experiencing each of the 4 seasons that I love when it's the right time for it. The only thing I'm not a fan of is it getting dark so early.

Lists like this always leaves out the Finger Lakes Region of NY state, in my opinion it rivals all of these locations. It's just west of the Adirondacks. Lakes, rivers, streams, forests, lots of state parks, ski resorts, farms, orchards, wine trails, breweries, anything you can think of. The fall foliage is breathtaking.

The most potholes I've encountered in the U.S is around New York city ... because of the frost depth in winter and all of the traffic. Jono just know that in any U.S major city ... you are less than a days drive away from absolutely unbelievable natural habitats to enjoy. In the U.S the fall is full of celebrations Halloween and Thanksgiving being the biggest building to Christmas and New Years then Valentine's followed by the holidays celebrating spring.

In New Mexico, our winters can get pretty cold! In Albuquerque low 40's to single digits, Fahrenheit rarely below zero. Snow in Albuquerque can be 0, 2-6 inches, on rare occasions 1 foot or more. The more north you go: Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Red River, and Taos see the most snow. Taos has the best skiing in New Mexico. Taos is very close to the southern border of Colorado. The more north you go: Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, then you'll see more snow, north of that is Canada.

If/when you ever get to visit the Great Smoky Mountains which are a part of the Appalachian Mtns. you'll want to do your sight seeing during the daytime. You don't want to be outside in Appalachia after dusk. If you find yourself outside, DO NOT WHISTLE. If you hear someone call for help, no you didn't. Or if you hear someone call out your name, NO YOU DIDN'T. And above all else do not cross the woods tree line after dark.. That being said we would love if you visited the North Carolina side of those Great Smoky Mountains. It truly is beautiful this time of the year..

I might send you guys some videos on my area (to include on your places to consider as a perfect home area to settle into, not necessarily for video reaction) because the last place in this video today is where I'm from, the Virginia part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm sure that, if you were to get on google maps, you'd find these places, if you're curious.
Door County, WI got that odd name because maybe 100 + years ago, in the days of sailing ships, they'd come to the just beyond the end of it, and it would be very treacherous so that many ships sank in the area, so sailing past that was like sailing into Death's Door.
The Maine accent of Bar Harbor causes the locals to say Ba' Habah.
There's a joke in a number of states something to the effect of "the seasons here are fall/autumn, winter, spring and road repair. I believe it's Minnesota that changes it to "winter, more winter, still winter, and road repair".😀

I believe you don't see potholes in those photos is because a premium is paid to those types of parkways, forests, and towns for good roads where tourism is a big part of economy. US has a very mixed bag of road conditions. Though weather like freezing and tons of rain or snow has a major impact; economy is often the culprit.

You have to do 2 kinds of trips to the USA not 2 trips, 2 kinds of trips.
The 1st is the tourist trip. Go to the tourist places like New York City and the New Jersey shore Philadelphia Las Vegas San Francisco and everything in that area DisneyWorld in Florida depending when you come maybe check out spring training for a couple teams in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and New Orleans, then:
The 2nd trip road tripping up one coast across to the other coast and back to your original starting point going past one of our borders. You like Texas so that is a sure bet. You'll meet wonderful people learn about their towns you might make friends along the way. Always remember, it's never the destination it's the journey that's truly special.

I am happy to hear that California made it on this list, but very disappointed in their choice spot! Mount Shasta is really beautiful, but here in Chico CA we have some of the best color in fall! Specifically along "The Esplanade".... a long central avenue through our city lined with huge, gorgeous Ginko Bilboa trees that have tremendous color change. Plus we have tons of Ornamental Pistacio trees found all around town as well as the maple trees.... deep golds, vibrant variegated oranges and dark red everywhere! So many trees that our City has the nickname of the "City of Trees". We also have a free leaf pick-up service that starts the end of October and runs through the first week of January where people can simply rake all of their fallen leaves onto the road way in a pile next to the street gutters and the city will come with big trucks and specialized grabbers and they pick up the piled leaves and take them to the north part of the city where they compost them. People can then go and purchase for a nominal fee, rich, natural compost for their gardens come spring. The city sweepers come along the day after pick up so they can sweep the gutters clean of any debris that the grabbers missed. It is a pretty special place to live!

No, our states aren't inside each other, Vermont is next to New Hampshire, not inside it.
To put things in perspective as to how big NY is, Slovakia is basically a THIRD of the size of NY. NY is 54,000 square miles while Slovakia is 19,000 square miles. While NYC is a tiny little bit way down in the corner, NYC looks more like it should be part of New Jersey or Connecticut instead of New York. New York City has about the same land area as Bratislava, just more people.

I've always wanted to try lobster. Being highly/extremely allergic to seafood. I don't think it's going to happen. Unless I get a lobster & sit outside the ED or ER & try it. Then walk into the emergency room afterwards, ask for an EpiPen & antihistamine, & urgent medical attention. Is it worth it to try???

I wouldn’t consider Aspen a west coast destination. Colorado isn’t exactly west coast!

Jono confused by 'girly' matters. Join the club. Parts of the US don't get as cold. But it also makes our autumn colors lack luster. Some season we will have a sudden cold snap that will be colorful. But most times nothing to compare with the North East. Roads here do get potholes. Most places take care of them pretty fast. The problem is widening or expanding roads may be even worse.

Can you react to the Slovak music video called Za Náš Tím?
Don’t do it if you think you will get a copyright strike though.

Vermont and New Hampshire have more bright red foliage than anywhere I have ever seen. This video didn't do the colors there justice. The pictures were from well before peak season.

I grew up in New England, so I was kind of spoiled for fall colors at the time, even if I didn't fully appreciate it. To this day, I have relatives in upstate New York and last October I had a chance to go to a US Army football game at West Point and take a regional road trip as far south as Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The colors just about everywhere on this trip were amazing...even with the wet weather on parts of the trip. I'd have to say the highlight was when I was in Eastern Pennsylvania's Anthricite Country around Jim Thorpe, since the weather cleared up and the autumn colors were at or near peaking.
I don't think you get as many of the reds out west because the trees that change color there are mostly aspens or cottonwoods....it seems like it's different varieties of maple and oak that are adding red to the fall colors in the Northeastern USA.

I think Door County should have been better on the list. I've only been there twice, but it's great. Great little shops also.

You should react to the American revolution oversimplified and the American civil war oversimplified.
