    Mont Campbell is easily one of the most important composers in progressive music!

      I’d say one of the most important of the 20th century even!!

    Mont is literally the greatest bassist in the history of rock, IMO lmao. He’s my bass idol. Gorgeous creamy bass tone too. Think yoos gotta clean dem ears a little Phil, we hearing the same thing...? Hmmm haha.

    Mont or Dirk bombed Rees-Mogg on stage yesterday. What a hero.

    Thanks so much for this A.L. Sure fills in some gaps in our understanding. I guess Phil wouldn't know much about Egg though.

    Are there National Health recordings with Bill Bruford and Mont Campbell?

      Official : much of "Missing Pieces" (CD release, 1996). Non-official : several recordings of shows (February 1976 tour), LSE, Dundee, etc.

    Have any of these Mont Campbell charts been published?

      I’ve been dreaming for that to happen for years!!! Man, I’d study the living shit outta those charts till my eyes bled!! Someone should get in touch with him and ask him if he’d consider it. 🤗

    And may I ask what is the music playing in the background?

      A live version of "Agrippa" (different from the Missing Pieces version due to having a wordless vocal part).

    Strange that Mont used a rudimentary Fenton Weill bass for all of this work.

    • @the.bloodless.one1312
      @the.bloodless.one1312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think it was a Burn-Weill he used, but either way both have short scale necks, and especially the Burn-Weill the neck is tiny and thin like a twig, I own both. But ya it’s a lot easier to play his bass parts on a short scale than on my long scale, I find, with all the large intervals and stuff, so I always imagined that might’ve been a reason he played those basses? Possibly. They weren’t very popular even back then.

    A very revealing and interesting video, I disagree with Mont being a poor bassist at the time, but I wasn't there for rehearsals and most live concerts, so I wouldn't know. I'd just assume that he didn't mix as well with National Health as he did Egg and Uriel.

      I guess National Health had too many people involved and Mont's style has always been very minimalistic.

    national health sucked compared to Egg, Arzachel and Hatfield of the North (the other spinoff bands). Their albums were interesting but bad and didn't have any 10/10s, like Visit to Newport Hospital, Queen St Gang, all of Third, Mumps, Son of Homerton etc.

    • @dogconnoisseur
      @dogconnoisseur ปีที่แล้ว +1

      agreed, national health felt like hatfield and the north if they had fallen short. the almost no vox on either of their two albums doesn't help. without vocals it ends up sounding like kinda stale canterbury jazz that just drags on..and if i want instrumental canterbury prog/jazz there are simply better choices. i do think arzachel kinda blows ass though. I can't get interested in that album aside from the one track, garden of earthly delights. i can't help but feel arzachel is like egg if they fell short. but hey, just sharing my opinions with a stranger with a runescape avi.

      @@dogconnoisseur garden of earthly delights is my favorite on the album tbh, I would actually agree the album isn't a 10/10, but it holds a special place in my heart because it's experimental and has my favorite keyboardist. Egg was absolute god tier. Still remain one of my favorite bands.

      I disagree. Hearing 'Paracelsus' for the first time knocked me on my arse, and 'Tenemos Roads' was quite a fine piece. Most of NH's music was probably just too dauntingly complex ('Zabaglione') for any extended listening. That's what happens when two band members try to outdo each other by writing the most complex song.
