DIY repurposed Bluebird feeder. So easy and you probably already have what you need. I use a "tomato box" or berry box that you get when you buy them at the store. I fill with about 1/2 cup of dried mealworms and attach to a pole, plant hanger, another feeder or what ever you have. I use zip ties or long twist ties and position it so that gravity moves them down as the birds eat. The little holes in the container allow the birds to pick them out. The snap lid on top keeps them mostly dry... even in driving rain and I replace it for free when it starts to look dirty. Although not necessary, I fed a twig through the holes so they have a perch. I've been doing this successfully for more than 5 years

These birds are very common to see in Valatie NY, and many other towns or cities in New York. So, that means if you live in New York, almost every day, you will see a lot of Eastern Blue-Birds.
I had a bluebird lay eggs in my hanging tomato planter one year and they have stayed around ever since. I can hear them in the nearby trees and I have put up a couple of birdhouses to encourage them to stay. Beautiful to watch.

It’s good we humans find them relaxing, but bird calls are anything but stress-free. They are usually the opposite; done to mark their territory to invaders, signal a predator nearby, and the stress of finding a mate. Making their bird calls uses up a lot of energy.
I was gobsmacked to see a male and two female eastern Bluebirds at my suet feeder yesterday (1/28/24. I can count on one hand the amount of times I have seen them in warmer months ONLY, and NEVER at a feeder. It’s especially amazing considering I have been experiencing writers block, and said out loud “should I even be doing this? I wish someone would tell me if this is what I should be doing” if you have never looked up animal totems you should. Those Bluebirds showed up and for the heck of it I looked up spiritual meaning of the bluebird. 😳
Blue birds have a special meaning to me. Lost my grandson n April 2020 When I heard this song I knew it was sent from Heaven. Lord knows I need a light on n my soul and Bluebird n my ❤ Fly high w the bluebirds💙
