  • In this video, I'll share how to sew a large brim sun hat - a perfect items for your summer wardrobe! This is an easy and beginner friendly project that you can make in just few hours. Best part? You can make this in ANY size! You can make a hat for yourself, your kids, grandkids, make a matching 'mommy and me' look, gift it to a friend or even sell - so many possibilities! To make this hat, I used fabric leftovers from cotton dress I made earlier this year, so this sun hat is great as a scrap busting or refashion project. I also added boning around the brim - while this is optional, I recommend adding boning when sewing large brim hat, otherwise the hat brim might be a floppy - adding boning with give brim structure and it will stand better. This hat is made using only straight stitch, so you can make this hat using any sewing machine that you have! Wear this DIY hat to beach, garden or even summer celebration for extra elegant touch!
In the video, I share pattern details with measurements for 59cm head circumference and you'll find calculations for custom size in this blog post: www.sewingjulie.com/post/how-...
This tutorial is created in partnership with Mettler - manufacturer of high quality threads. To sew this hat, I used Mettler SILK-FINISH COTTON 50 thread.

OMG that is so cool! I may make my own sunhat. Your sunhats are so cute! I always wear mine to the park and of course on beach vacations. Does anyone else leave her hat on after sunset at the beach? I love how those hats look so for me wearing it is 50% practicality/functionality and 50% aesthetic.

I love it! Fabulous hat and tutorial Julie! Never would have thought to put boning around the rim. Thank you for sharing the measurements, that’ll be very helpful. I just made a little Barbie movie-inspired outfit for my doll with a miniature sun hat. 😅 Now I need one for me 😍

Very glad to hear you liked the tutorial, Rikki!🤗 I saw that there’s a fabric hat in Barbie movie, but I couldn’t find similar fabric🤔

I enjoyed your video and have just cut out all the pieces and applied the interfacing. I would like to join the boning. How would I do that?

When you cut the boning, do you connect the ends or just leave them in two pieces? Love your channel! You are an excellent teacher!
