  • Edmonton has quietly become a national leader in electric buses and is counting on these zero-emissions vehicles to reduce operating costs. The city has purchased 40 long-range e-buses, has a high speed charging system and is looking at the electrification of its entire fleet over time. The City is expecting 30% lower maintenance costs and up to 75% reduced fuel costs.

    That's really cool. We had an electric bus in Quebec City and it caught fire lol

    Dumpmonton had electric buses in the past. They had trolley buses, but because of short sightedness the city scrapped the whole system.

    Excellent video about some very good news. I've ridden the buses and they are a superior ride in every sense -- quieter inside, quieter outside, less smelly, 40% better on CO2, 99% better on street level pollutants. Edit -- and cheaper!
    Really hoping we never order another diesel bus.

    Can you explain why the metal art which looks like dented metal was so expensive, but the siding installers dented that metal for free.... ?

      It's the topography of cities as at a similar latitude as Edmonton as he says near the end of the video.

    I was surprised to see the bus on Strathearn Dr. The last time I caught any bus on that road was during the 95 Ave closure for the Valley Line construction due to Driver error.
    In relevancy to the video, these buses are a great addition to the ETS fleet after the abandonment of the Trolleybus system and will propel Edmonton and it's surrounding cities into the future

      Yeah, Strathearn was obviously only used for promotional shots, with the "standard postcard view" of Edmonton. There are no existing or planned bus routes there.

    Electric buses are so quiet and that's also great for neighbourhoods.

    Those e-buses haven't been put out on the new bus network for ETS yet, I hope they will soon.

    Very cool! I haven't had the chance to ride a bus like this, but I hope I do someday. Kudos to the City of Edmonton for investing in these.

    How many Canadian tax payer dollars went into the American economy with the purchase of these buses? ... how much of Edmonton’s power supply currently comes from fossil fuel?

    Save money on maintenance and fuel costs. Go electric.
    Every transit operator should see this video and make plans to go electric.
    Time to go all in and make all future purchases electric.

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although the roof of a bus looks big, the amount of energy collected would not be very significant. It would make more sense to put those panels on the roof of the bus garage.
