I was like a church hopper for many years, and finally, Jesus told me to attend the Church He established and He led me to the Catholic Church. After several years of classes, I joined, and after 57 years, I can still say I have never felt more fulfilled or happier.

@@kelman727 That's easy. Jesus not only identifies love as the answer to the world's problems, but defines what love is and shows us what love looks like.
Love, based on Biblical principles or first principle, not only seeks to reconcile mankind to God but also mankind to itself through personal relationships in which we build up rather than tear down. God wants humans to be in relationship with each other in which we don't take advantage of one another. In other words, be our brothers keeper.
Love rather than envy.
To forgive rather than revenge.
To serve rather than be served.
Humility rather than pride.
To lay down our lives for others rather than fight to preserve ourselves while others die.
Human rights are a responsibility rather than an entitlement.
To be a follower of Christ in the modern age is to truly be a "rebel" .

No. The Second Commandment says otherwise. It is the responsibilty of these who have enough and more of this world's good things, to strive to ensure that the poor and marginalised have a fair share of God's bounty, whch he intended for all his children, as St Ambrose insisted. And don't quote to me; 'The poor you have always with you' ; That was clearly intended by Christ to apply to a specific situation at a specific time.
The Bible almost routinely identifies the rich with the oppressor, the robber, the fraudulent, the violent, the dishonest, etc ; and the Bible conversely regularly identifies the poor with the virtuous, the true Israel. An outstanding example, of course, is Our Lady's Magnificat. Of course there are many exceptions, such as Joseph of Arimathea, but evidently a minority of a relative minority. The Psalms and the books of the Prophets are particularly notable in this context.
I was received into the Catholic Church in 2006 officially, and by golly I'll stick therewith! My memories of RCIA and Reception are indelible. I thank God He's led me back thereunto!

I read GK Chesterton's stories, and he is a supreme satirist. He is certainly a breath of fresh air among the world's thinkers, many of whom are quite stale, and even foul, as the rotting corpse of their philosophy will always dispel. Until we have a tremendous appreciation for the truth, and can reason it succinctly, distinctly, and reliably, our silence more dispels our wisdom than ever our speaking. Seek the truth, for to know the truth is freedom.

Joseph you would definitely be wrong. As a Buddhist myself i can tell you that is not the case. Buddha never said to reject God. He said to reject Gods. And that one God is not necessary. Does that dismiss the existence of God. No it merely says that you don't need God to do good deeds and what is right.

Fantastic! I loved all the twelve reasons and their break downs.
I have often enjoyed listening to audio books of Father Brown mysteries with how well they are written. I must not have registered that they were the work of Mr. Chesterton. Now I must get the printed versions of the books and enjoy them as they should be enjoyed.
EWTN is my tool in learning when I converted,&still do watch now I'm recomening it to somone very dear to me, and to read the fathers of the church to seek out the truth the bible has and especially the book of John which most other religions can't except the real presence of Jesus and the sacrament of the Eucerist. But Truth is right in front of us if we just pull away the blinders of what we where raised to believe,and open our hearts, and prayfully ask for guidance, clesses to help, within the church, Thank you St. Cecellia for welcoming us into the family, ih of course my husband rip✝ and his beautiful family.

The term Christian and Catholic was first used by St. Ignatius of Antioch in the early second century, the first term refers to the followers of Jesus (has nothing to do with religion), while the second term was the name given by Apostles to the Apostolic Union according to their universal faith in Jesus Christ, in (Hebrews 12-23) it can be observed that the author writes exactly that, he calls the Church (Universal Assembly) for those who do not know the meanings of the words, *Universal Assembly* is the same as *Catholic Church.*

That is what Martin Luther rightly did, he just went back to the Truth of the Scriptures.
Many Sects have their own doctored Bible i.e. the Catholic Bible, the Jehovah Witness Bible, the teachings from the Book of Mormon etc., all of these have had teaching added to or taken away from, the truth of scripture of The Holy Bible, for their own 'dubious purposes.'

I have always loved Chesterton since being introduced to him by my father at the age of thirteen, over the two years following I read through his complete works cover to cover. I have always thought that his single greatest flaw was that he was a Catholic, but if you break down his defense of Catholicism you will find that his defenses apply to a larger group than the Catholic Church alone. In fact I think most of the examples he gives would apply to any true, honest, and obedient Christian Church in all of history. Beyond this even, his defense of Catholicism is based on the ideal Catholic Church, not the real Catholic Church that we have seen Perverted and tyrannized so many times throughout history by its own leaders.
@Khrotso Koza The "Real universal (catholic) church cannot be found physically because it is a spiritual organism called in scripture The Body of Christ. Look up the "church the Body of Christ" in the Bible. You will only find it in the epistles of Paul since the Lord revealed it to Paul after His resurrection. The 12 apostles and other disciples of Jesus before that, knew nothing of how to become a member of the Body of Christ church.
Judas was not a reason to abandon the other eleven and the Church. Jesus promised that “the forces of the netherworld will not prevail against it.” satan has been trying since then to lead people away from the Church by infiltrating it. Don’t fall for it. Choose the Eucharist Instead.

I think this thread is more about the scriptural Universesal Church which by definition is has the same meaning of the Catholic Church, but different than the ROMAN Catholic Church. Focus on what Jesus told the woman by the well, when she asked him where should she worship in the Semaritan temple or in a Jerusalem with the Jews? Jesus replied that what God seeks is worshippers in spirit and truth. So the physical location or a type of leader is not as important, you seeking/worshipping in truth and worshipping in spirit is the most important.

But the main difference to make is that of the biblical universal church which is the same as the Catholic church.... but not the same as the ROMAN Catholic church. HMR.Videos, the Roman Catholic Church Is the one that can trace its leadership directly to Peter to whom Jesus gave the keys to His kingdom until His return. This is the Church of Chesterton and the one that has the Eucharist - the actual body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. Protestants do not have this.

The confessional is a good idea.
I leave the confessional knowing I am forgiven. I have faith that God forgives, but I like being told by an ordained priest that God has absolved my sins.

It only took 1100 years for the doctrine of confession to a priest to appear in the RCC/ Catholic churches. There was no priest to offer sacrifices to in the new testament and there was no confession to anyone but the Lord for forgiveness of sins .

sacraments are a Catholic term and you do not attain salvation by the sacraments . Salvation is by grace and it is a gift not something you work for , so doing the sacraments sounds pious but in reality it will not give you salvation .

Yes Peter had a name change and the Catholic church gave him an upgrade in status even though there are many verses that describe Peter as being less than the rock Jesus named him. Jesus is the Rock of our salvation and He built His church on himself and Peter and the apostles are part of the foundation .
I have looked at Catholic church history and it is dismal ,just as dismal as the protestant denominations ,all saying they are the true church.
Jesus called His church "MY CHURCH" He did not call it anything else and there were no names of churches recorded by any of the writers of the new testament.
The Church that Jesus founded is the true church and everything that the true church should believe is found in the scriptures. 2 Tim 3:15-17
Any new beliefs that are taught as truth and not found by example in the scriptures are not truth but fabrication by man for his own reasons.

Imagine trying to find the "Catholic Church" of which G. K. Chesterton spoke, today. 99.9x% of those churches that even say "Catholic" do not fit the description he gave. To find that 0.0x% one should look for such descriptions as "traditional," "traditionalist," "Latin Mass." What one finds in such few churches today is alone what one would have found in virtually every church in Chesterton's day as would have been called Catholic.

Hey I just wonder if you ever read the story of the twelve apostles they were the worst of the worst but Jesus call them He didn't care there behaveing He came to heel the sick not the good ones how a bout the history of the popes how many of they were bad but our church still standing today after 2020 years no evil will destroyed who ever talk against the pope it is anti Christ because He represent Jesus Christ either you like it or not and He will answer to God what is doing not you or me I pray for Him every day

Chesterton seems to speak with some measure of certainty of the Catholic Church and, in fact, appeals to its steadfastness and truth as the prime measure of its authority. Why does it feel that Chesterton was NOT speaking of the 2021 synodal catholic church that has been told by its current pontificate to "expect surprises from the God of surprises", and to not hold on to certainties, and that we don't need a new church, we just need to change the current one. Would Chesterton have converted under current church leadership?

My informal experience --- based on the APA's support of gay marriage and support of non-binary sex-pairing tells me the percentage is rather small. Your numbers may be better-informed, however. I am Catholic, and always have been. Why? I am still not sure. However, I do believe that what maintains my Catholicness is my continued doubt of the Church and its intentions. I believe that only through discourse and doubt can my faith be strengthened. Thus, I believe it is necessary to ask this:
How can the Catholic Church of 2000 years be right when it deceives its people, a diverse and universal people, by covering up child molestation, supporting those in the past who have used the Church for their factions' endeavors of greed and glory, and have even held, and still hold, land and secrets when there is supposedly no class and distinction between the Church and the people?
With all the corruption and the institution of covering up, how can the Catholic Church still be right?
Why shouldn't I leave when the Catholic Church when it has lost its face?
Why does the Catholic Church claim to follow Jesus' teachings, especially about the innocence of children, when it has taken such from so many?

I have a question. How can someone who is so in love with Chesterton be a defender of the heretical Francis? Interesting to see how when the devil hits the stage he brings out his full cast
Francis may have said heterodox stuff, but he's not a heretic. It's easy to feel like we're living in the worst crisis of the churhc, but we've actually had way worse popes and darker periods. Sure, we aren't in the brighest moment of the church, but blame it all on the pope is wrong. After all he continues to oppose abortion, religious same sex marriage, female priests and so on. Tha fact that only 8 popes have been canonized in the last 1000 or so years shows that we've had pretty average men on the chair, but it's still the chair of St Peter and Chesterton, if alive, despite the critics he would probably make against the current papacy, would still recognize its authority.

All of this is true, except even moreso for the orthodox Church.
It wasn't the Orthodox Church that stood up to the Soviet Union. It was Pope John Paul II. The Catholic Church learned this lesson the hard way and separated from worldly powers some thousand years ago, after Philip IV of France forced Pope Clements hand to disband the Templar Knights and burn them at stakes.
Although I have great respect for the Orthodox Church. It is not universal.
So much of what is presented here seems to me to have been turfed by The Church. Modernism is creeping into the sermons I here at (virtually) any N.O. Mass. The parish priest down the road tends to preach more psychology than theology.
When I converted to The Church it was at a Traditional Latin Mass. I'm afraid that many who grew up in the post-councilliar church might object to much of this video. :(

I've sadly shared similar experiences, I attended a local parish on Sunday for the first time and was shocked at the use of a band of electric guitars and drums and a rainbow flag sticker plastered on the gates. Priests I feel are generally hesitant to fully speak on the actual truth of Christ and make mass into a feel good show. May Lord have mercy.

Chesterton's writings were in unity with the pre-Second Vatican Council teaching. Chesterton's writings have not changed, but the "new teachings" and the encyclicals of every Pope, since 1959, are in direct opposition to Chesterton's writings. When was the last time (or the first time for that matter) that a Pope spoke about no salvation outside of the church, Jesus Christ is God's word incarnate, heaven and hell does exist and both are eternal, original and actual sin, what are the seven sacraments and why the Church gives them to us, etc. The last six Popes have concentrated and promulgated on secular humanism.
I’d like to hear Chesterton’s explanation how the Catholic deification of the Virgin Mary is “true” doctrine according to the Bible. Mary was not exalted in any teaching of Jesus or the apostles. The Bible says NOBODY was sinless except for Jesus and at the last supper Jesus instructed his disciples to remember only him, not Mary, not John the Baptist, not Abraham, only himself.

As a moderate protestant I support GK Chesterton's run for sainthood 2020. Anyone who doubts him performing a miracle must not have read Man Who Was Thursday. The book had a huge car chase scene 6 months before Model T Ford was launched!
I do think that he underestimated his own girth a bit in "Why I am catholic": By writing about Catholic church being "the only thing", instead of say, "the best in", in his rush to preach to the regulars, his big butt slammed the church door shut before casuals got in to hear his sermon.

Nothing that had or would happen in the Church could ever invalidate the true Church.
I was born of the Spirit at 32 years of age and it wasn’t a church nor “the” church that saved me, it was Jesus. The error I see many make is to attribute too much to the Church organization (and this isn’t only true of the Catholic organization, it is also true of many Protestant groups). What I mean by this is the fact that Jesus is the Truth as well as the dispenser of the Truth by His Holy Spirit, our Helper, our conscience, individuality not corporately. We individually make up what is The Church, not an organized body meeting in a building made with hands. It is a spiritual body that isn’t bound by physical boundaries. Mary worship, praying to Mary and other dead saints, veneration of popes and other people, and pomp and ceremony all have nothing to do with a true relationship with Jesus.
The essential issue is justification. Rome teaches that man has to cooperate with God in his own justification. The Bible teaches that God is just and the justifier of the one who has faith in the annointed (Christ) Jesus. Rome is wrong. The babbling on this video hides the deep error of Rome.
@@kenzeier2943 Exactly! Rome disqualifies itself immediately by siding with the likes of the "Judaizers" Paul rebukes in Galatians. Adding anything, anything, anything to the gospel Paul preached makes it invalid for salvation. See 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Rom. 5:1, Eph. 1:13, 2:8-10--- for starters.
When we decide for ourselves what is true and just there is no truth and justice. Something is true or not . It is not relative to what each of us decide is true. We need the church to convey the truth taught by Jesus and the apostles. Only one Church dates back to Jesus The Catholic Church. We don't worship anyone but the three persons in the Blessed Trinity.
You guys better read Exodus. God's instructions on how He is to be worshipped. And regarding asking for Mary's intercession, have you ever asked a friend to pray for you, or offered a prayer for someone? That's what Catholics do when they pray (communicate) to Mary. You shouldn't be very condescending, because if you answered Yes to the question, then are your prayers, or you, worth more than Mary's, the mother of Jesus, who responded to God's will without question, who accompanied her Son all the way to Golgotha and watched Him die for our salvation? Btw, we Catholics do not worship Mary as you all claim that's what we do. We honor her for she is favored by God. It is in the Bible in the Gospel of Luke, so you can check it out. Please do not speak of things you have no understanding of, or of misconceptions of the teachings of the Church. You may want to read the Cathechism, unless you want to remain hateful.

I am rather baffled that such a great thinker seems to have such blindspots when it comes to the institution of the catholic church. If in this video he was using "true Christianity" instead of "Catholic church" I would more or less entirely agree, but as it stands I find most of his claims either hard to defense, indefensible or plain wrong.

The claim that the Roman church is the only church that can claim to be THE church is historical nonsense. It was one region of the church with a bishop overseeing its affairs, just as there were other regions of the world with bishops overseeing their affairs. One holy, catholic, and apostolic church.
Then, for reasons, I'm sure, the bishop of Rome decided that he should be the Bishop over all bishops. Problem was the other bishops, who had enjoyed co-equality with one another, including the bishop of Rome, for over a thousand years didn't want to give that up. Even less so now their knees to Rome!
You can't argue with history. Rome ISN'T the only church.

Nice video - only thing is, going back to the "origins of the church" (1:40ff) should have brought him to the Orthodox Church, from which Roman Catholicism split in 1054 ... he did not quite go back far enough to reach the origins of the faith ... pre-denominational Catholicism is Orthodoxy ... worth checking out and following up on ... and all the statements that proclaim it to be the "only thing that ..." are more true about Orthodoxy than Roman Catholicism, which from an Orthodox viewpoint has tampered with truths unilaterally, especially after the split from the original body of the Orthodox ...
but Orthodoxy lacks communion with Rome, with the ROCK. I was baptised Orthodox but have come to Catholicism by the grace of the Spirit.

Literally none of these reason to be a Catholic are exclusive to Catholics. There just truth about the church and about the gospel, but most christian denominations believe this too. A protestant can say the same exact truths claiming that they're exclusive to the protestant church too. (Except without the religious pride that the "intellectual church" has)

Christian denominations have no beliefs. If you think they do, send me their Creed. Send me their Catechisms. A Protestant is as likely to "go" Methodist as Lutheran, as Assembly of God, week in week out. They're always changing their beliefs. Because they have no beliefs. So stop impersonating Christianity - it's Catholic or nothing.
