Saw this movie years ago. Honestly, I really do like it. A friend had it in a collection and wouldn't eat h it, gave it to me, and I thought it was great. The film style and aesthetic are wonderful. Haven't really found many other fans though. No one seems to like westerns, or asian films..let alone an Asian western.
Some based on a Clint Eastwood movie but then with a surname like Eastwood it was inevitable that the movie should one day go East. The gun slinging scenes were excellent. Great popcorn fun. Thank you for posting this movie. Take care and God Bless 💖
The Movie is set on if Japan didn't close their country and the Shimabara rebellion succeeded and spreading the peasant rebellion on toppling the shogunate government. Christianity would spread, Japan would keep up with technology and Japan didnt have an Edo period. The warrior caste of samurais dies and there is no longer Bushido. It stop being a warlord dominion and becomes a free for all for everyone.
Westerns stole it first, A Fist full of Dollars the Clint Eastwood movie. Was a direct copy of The samurai movie Yojimbo. There’s a couple other movies where The samurai movies came first.
@@caleblefever9138 I must point out that Kurosawa himself stole the plot of Yojimbo from the (far better) Red Harvest, an excellent American hard-boiled detective novel. On top of that, Kurosawa in his youth was heavily inspired by John Ford's westerns, so the two genres have traditionally mutually fed off each other.
@52:00 one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a movie. I used to tell people about that scene specifically throughout the years. I could never remember the name of the movie. So glad I found this on TH-cam.
They should've let them talk in japanese... I normally watch everything in the original language but I watched this movie in the dubbed version of my language back then.
@@Nyckaka i think that would take away from the point... Miike wouldnt make the movie in english for nothing... I feel like he wanted to make an american western with his own spin and he succeeded.. im sure most of the actors didnt even understand what they where saying and to me it worked... i felt it gave the movie charm.. in this case i feel a Japanese dub would be a disservice only made so it could play for a japanese audience
Genuinely one of the coolest movies I've ever seen

I really did like it. I watch it every now and then cause i find it funny and hilarous but also a great film apart from being a bit...cringy
It's a great flick, I like it too. 'Once upon a time in China and America ' is a pretty good Asian Western too.
Love this movie!
Love this mobile I’ve seen it a handful of times and still revisit it. It’s a life action western anime in my opinion
🎉❤😮ع
This was hard to find years back, glad it’s up here now - tysm
"What can I say? At the end, I am an anime otaku at heart."

Fascinating. And in this scenario, Japan colonizes the west coast of America...
Isn’t this like a retelling of a very old war back in japan’s history with the heike?
yoooo me and my lil bro fw this movie so much
takashi miike es un genio
Enjoy this remake very much strong actors love the gun vs sword that was an exciting finish sad to see the lady gunslinger BB dies she was excellent.
This one and Bunraku are two movoes I still rewatch just because they are so diffrent, absolutely magical cinematography, a style I truly love! 😁
If Tarantino guest spots in a movie, that says it all..
The actors must have improved English. I'm not mad, I'm proud
Katana and revolver combination🤠👌
Thanks, WESTERN CENTRAL . 💕
Great movie. So happy to find it again
See that gun in the thumbnail? We asian cowboys fling that shit like a ninja star faster than any cowboy can draw
HEEEEEEEE YAAAAWW!
LOVE ASIAN FILMS AND MOST OF TARANTINOS FILMS. SOME OF THE ACTORS HAVE CONTINUED ON WHICH IS GREAT FOR ME.
Muito bom mesmo filme de primeira qualidade gostei muito
Showed this to my friend the other night good time
Is this a (good) form of cultural appropriation? Japanese Samurai being American Cowboys. I like it.

I don't think you understand the difference between plot and character.

Its an homage/tribute to Spaghetti Westerns...
// a mighty fine supernatural spaghetti tarantino flick with a lot of bloody killing. 🔫
Shanghai Joe was the old classic western movie
Beautiful just beautiful..

Good movie
Great film - I decided to watch it because people have told me I look like the main character!

Só faltava essa, faroeste asiático. Estão de brincadeira né!
Why is this one only 1 hour and 35 minutes?

Precisa mais drubagem nos filme não falo essa linga

Quentin Tarantino ruined the movie for me with his ridiculously hammy performance.
Never a fan of dubbed movies or anime.
it's not dubbed, but they talk like it is to get an exaggerated genre feel
@@nmarbletoe8210 it would have been amazing with Japanese audio.
@@Nyckaka There is a jp dub version.

It’s not dubbed, it’s all natively voiced in English and in the exaggerated style of Kabuki theater
The highlight of this movie is from 20:26 to 20:32. HAHAHAHA!!!!
Admirable
