It's not really that everything was huge, it's that the fossil record is biased toward larger animals because there is more material to fossilize and their bones are generally less fragile. Also, giant paleofauna are preferentially included in media because the general public finds them more interesting.

Those are estimates for Deinosuchus hatcheri, that btw, there are only fragments of vertebrates and a few osteoderms. Yeah, D. hatcheri could have been the largest Crocodilian, but with no enough material, that title goes to Purussaurus brasiliensis.

Probably weight vs length. A crocodile may be longer but weigh less because it's more slender.
