Watched this movie on the day it released with my dad. I was 10. I fondly remember how the entire theatre gave a standing applause as soon as "Peace in our lives" song started playing in the end...with my dad, a veteran himself was teary eyed.
Wow its a little bit too much action for a 10 year old no? I would have been terrified to watch anything else after this 😭 on the other hand I can only imagine the atmosphere in the theatres at the time. Rambo 2 was epic!
I remember watching this as a child. I was raised on Arny and Sly in the 80s. The best time for action movies. However, I will say that the fourth movie is the best. Absolutely brutal, but one of the most satisfying pay offs at the end of a movie I’ve ever seen.
The scene where Rambo tells the vet that its 1985 absolutely kills me.. The war ended in 1975 and he had no clue it had been 10 years. You can feel the pain in his eyes..
I am surprised by the last sentence of Rambo. Because i saw it in german. And in german, when Trautman asks Rambo ''How will you live ?'' , he answers : 'I dont know'' which for me is much more impactful for a tragic hero , than the original ''day by day'' ... sure it means kind of the same. But ''i dont know'' has a bit more sadness into it. The character Rambo always seemed for me kind of depressed , lonely, defeated. Although he fights for moral standards, for fairness , for something we all want to believe in. But he sees and experience himself in a world where everyone turns their back on him, and he is on his own. Its like with a lot of heros nowadays. Edward Snowden had the same faith. He did everything for us - he risked everything for us. We pat his shoulders and say ''oh what a good guy'' , but we do nothing to change what he fight for. And almost every country in this world abandoned him. Rambo is a symbol for all those unsung heros we are benefiting from, but turn our backs on them, when it comes to the question: wether we risk to stand behind them,or standing behind the established but wrong system. We are c*wards. And guys like Rambo will always be alone, fighting for a dream they want to believe in. But if guys like him succeed we all benefit from it. Thats the sadness and truth behind what Rambo tells us.
I'm a new follower and thank you so much for the reactions to this movie. I love Rambo and love Sylvester stallone so much and I hope you will react to the other Rambo movies until the last one.
The writers wanted us to understand the true cost of this life (war)., death of those close to you die. It is why no soldier gets out without psychological scars.
Great reaction, Ladies!! I'm so happy you're going to be reacting to all of the Rambo films. I remember watching the first 3 movies at the Drive-in Theater, the 4th at the Theater, and I saw the 5th on Blu-ray. You're going to have an awesome time watching more Rambo action! 🎥🍿💪
Like the first movie, the music score was written be the great, late Jerry Goldsmtih. It's one of his best, IMO, and *the* main ingredient that makes the movie work.
You're right. In the source novel First Blood, Rambo is much more unhinged and dangerous. He kills quite a few cops. Stallone decided to tone it down and make him a more sympathetic character while still calling attention to PTSD. Kirk Douglas, who was playing Trautman, didn't agree with the changes; so he was removed and replaced by Richard Crenna. The original film ending still did have Trautman killing Rambo. Well, more correctly, he was holding a handgun on Rambo point-blank, but hesitated to pull the trigger, so Rambo reached in and awkwardly pushed on the trigger, thus shooting himself in the abdomen and committing suicide. Test audiences didn't like that ending, so they reshot it to what you saw. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any sequels. You can see the original ending in a dream sequence that Rambo has in Part IV. David Morrell, as part of the film rights contract, was allowed to write tie-in paperback novels for the sequels. Of course, since the films were now the defining medium, his written sequels contradicted the original novel.
@@ScreenJamm Milda this was such a treat ! So glad you will be reacting to the sequels back to back, can't wait. I really also like how vocal and open you are on how you feel about Rambo. Yes sylvester stallone in 80's especially in these movies was such a handsome man and had a great body too. It feels great when women can appreciate the beauty in men too. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and am glad your daughter is liking the movies too. Can't wait for part 3 next.
@@kristhomas4039 😅 we went down a rabbit hole with this franchise 🫣 I love everything about Rambo films . 1. IMVHO this is the best of the bunch. 2. The Soviet Commander/Steven Burkoff also played the heavy in "Beverly Hills Cop". 3. There's a must watch/share with Sly and Kurt Russell called "Tango and Cash" where a cop says to Tango and says, "He thinks he's Rambo." Tango/Stallone says, "Rambo, is a pussy"🤣 4. Charles Napier/Murdock😇 also played Lt. Boyle in "Silence of the Lambs" and the leader of the Good ol' boys in "The Blues Brothers". 5. Julia Nickson/Co could get it. 😍😝😈 She tries too hard on that accent though.🙄 6. Movie magic: The backfire of the bazooka would burn the men in the back. 7. As of 2025, there are still about 1,580 Americans listed as missing in action (MIA) from the Vietnam War. This figure is based on data from the U.S. Department of Defense, which continues efforts to account for those who went missing during the conflict.
You asked about the Russian helicopter gunship with wings. It's an Mi-24. Well, actually it's a Western helicopter mocked up to look like an Mi-24. Those mockups were first made for Red Dawn (1984), and then reused in Rambo II and III. And yup, that's the Russian colonel piloting it. He's kind of hard to recognize with that helmet on.
Rambo had to outsmart the Russian. He had no chance in one to one battle against that gunship. Would you recommend Red Dawn (1984) for us to watch? We have never heard of it.
@@ScreenJamm Definitely. It's a fictitious dystopian future story where the Soviet Union, with the help of Cuba and Nicaragua, attack the U.S. and any allies have left after the dissolution of NATO. On another matter: I'm sure it's too late and you've already watched all the Rambo movies back-to-back. But the so-called Extended Cut of Last Blood (101 minutes) is superior to the "standard" cut (89 minutes), and it was actually the theatrical release everywhere in the world except the U.S., U.K. and Canada. The initial character development is better. And without the opening Flood Rescue scene, there's no setup for a later payoff. (I can't say more without giving away plot points.)
@@ScreenJamm Good deal. You're welcome. A lot of subscribers will be glad. Both versions are available on Amazon Prime in the U.S. I presume that's true in the U.K. as well.
This movie capitalizes on a phenomenon that was unique to the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. After the Vietnam war ended there were rumors that American POWs were still being held in Vietnam. Families of men missing in action would get letters from S.E. Asia telling them they had evidence that their loved one was still alive and for a fee they would provide information to secure their location. These individuals would provide Army dog tags that were partially mangled as proof. It turned out that all of these dog tags were counterfeits and the families of soldiers were just being scammed. Vietnam actually arrested some of the criminals and sentenced them to prison. Others that were involved in the fraud lived in Cambodia and Thiland. It's a shame that this movie actually promoted the lie that Americans were still being held in Vietnam. A lot of people really bought into the lie.
Considering the Department of Defense was led by Dick Cheney and George Bush Senior was the President at that time, I reserve the right to disbelieve that report. The government has been lying to us about this stuff for decades. God knows what the truth ACTUALLY is at this point.
Rambo couldn't have followed the Just Take Pictures order even if he wanted to, if (as presumed) he'd cut away the camera along with most of the rest of his equipment.
