- After cleaning up the final traces of evidence connecting them to the meth ring’s deadly end, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) look to Mike (Jonathan Banks) to help rebuild the drug lab. And as the police close in on the German food company that supplied the chemicals for Gus’ lab, Mike (Jonathan Banks) takes drastic steps to keep his role in the drug business from being exposed.

Lydia is up there with Gus as being one of the most overly cautious characters, always thinking of any threat or loose end. Unlike Gus though she doesn't keep calm under pressure, so she often gets pushed around and ends up looking foolish.
I like how well this sums everything up. Cautious while calm and collected versus cautious while anxious and paranoid.
Both cautious but couldn't me more far apart. Gus wouldn't sell out his people whereas this one would just so she can drinking that stevia crap.

Gus definitely had the killer instinct. Moreso from his alleged days as a general, or at least some type of military/special forces background. & well... being a lot more ruthless after Max's death.

Laura Fraser played Lydia so well. This show was just full of memorable characters perfectly cast and acted.
Her elocution is not very good, you can hardly make out what she is saying.

Lydia is a personification of anxiety and paranoia and always took catious measures. Yet ionically enough she was killed off in a way that she never would be anxious of, drinking her stevia water.

I love her character. Very much like Todd, she seemingly represents a certain type of harmless personality that we are all too familiar with in real life, except she is revealed to have chilling amounts of ice in her veins.
Nah she just acts out of cowardice, Todd is more cold blooded just killing a little boy with no hesitation, she just put hits on people that are a slight menace to her

A fearful woman. OK all the time things are going well and she feels insulated but a loose cannon when things start to slip. This a problem with a lot of women in authority roles, they don't have the temperament for tough times.

Meanwhile Gus is a little disheartened that he couldn’t see Juan Bolsa getting killed in front of his own eyes.
Sad thing is that Mike’s men did end up making deals with the police. I get that it was because they stopped receiving money, but they were gonna squeal. If Walter hadn’t killed them, they would have talked, so Lydia wasn’t that paranoid after all.
You can never tell if someone's going to rat, that's the real world Mike.

Lydia was ironically comedic. I don't think there was a time I took her seriously, no matter how cold and ruthless she was being.
I think that's what makes her such a good character. I think Lydia represents lawful evil, she represents the soulless corporate psychopaths who can rationalize everything they do. I think we are suppose to compare her to season 1 Walter. We had so much empathy for him because he was dying of cancer, but if you take that away, he's no better than Lydia.
I like your point, I think the best way to find out who Walter really was...is looking at his relationship with Jesse from the start, before the mind games...he had no reason to treat him so badly, and he still did it with nothing to gain from it

Right before this scene, Lydia asks mike who killed Gus. & Mike responds "Haven't I told you not to worry about that?" - Turns out her worry was EXTREMELY valid as the same person killed Gus, ultimately kills her- & also kills Mike. Alongside many other people
Including all the people on the list, if I recall correctly. Mike really underestimated Walt.

I can't remember another show in which every character was this significant. They introduce these characters like Mike. Saul, Lydia, Todd etc and you think they're just apart of the scenery until you realize how important they are to the core of the storyline. Amazing writing
The only thing they messed up was Marie's shoplifting, which goes nowhere. And a couple of filler episodes like Fly
The only really disposable character important to the saga of walt and jesse was crazy eight.
Just off the top of my head, The Wire does this much better.

Despite Mike's famous warning to Walter against half measures, this is one of many, many half measures Mike takes throughout the whole Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul saga. Mike seems like the most logical and level-headed character in this whole franchise, but he's actually the most deluded. He truly believes in honor among thieves. There is no honor among thieves, never was.

I wouldn't say he believes in honor among thieves. I'd say he believes in being himself honorable, but he doesnt hold every other criminal up to that same level. He believes they will act in their own best interests, and that gets him killed when he deals with Walter, who does things that go wildly against his own best interests simply because he has nothing to lose.

I have to say that Laura Fraser plays Lydia very well. When an actor is able to make you hate their character (intentionally) you know they’re doing something right.
Interestingly, the converse can be true too. Gus was played in a way that made me love his character as a villain, and I still think that's him doing something very right.
Fraser played the roll of Lydia so well. The insecurity, her snake-like way of doing business, then again also showing her vulnerability and desperation of the fact she’s in too deep and damn well knows it. I really enjoyed her acting!

I really like the way Mike talks. Most people seem to think that he's not a big talker, but truth is, he's great at making speeches and has a way with words, especially when it comes to conveying details and being thorough. I would definitely listen to any lecture by Mike, as he'd probably think of everything and pre-empt most questions.

Lydia is a person who loves her lavish lifestyle and loves being rich but doesn't want to see what it takes to make it possible. Like in this scene she doesn't just tell Mike to go and kill all those men. She tries to make Mike understand the seriousness of their situation. It's like she knows how dirty this business is, but she doesn't wanna experience it herself. Like out of sight, out of mind. She's so used to living this life where you just shut your eyes and every bad thing just disappears.

Lydia was quite an interesting character. As cringe and over the top she was, she shared a lot of the same qualities Gus had. She was overly cautious and looked to dispose of any and all threats to the operation as quickly as possible. She was 100% correct in eliminating those 11 men because they did end up snitching anyway including Mike’s lawyer.
Maybe BCS season 6 has to be delayed until de-aging software is perfected.

You know what her and Walter/Heisenberg have in common? At first glance, they are both scared, cowardly, defenseless, and so out-of-place in this type of business. Little did Mike know both are master manipulators, and played him like a fiddle, which lead to him getting murdered. Lydia played Heisenberg, then Heisenberg played Lydia in the end.
Just because Mike is solid doesn't mean his guys have the same devotion and reliability. It's literally naive to think out of 11 guys no one would snitch.

I find the character of Lydia (not the actress) to be very unrealistic. I can't imagine a woman executive in a huge International company doing the things that she does, especially given that she's a single mother with a young daughter. She has a very well-paying job and she's going to risk it all as well as her life and her daughter's life by dealing with cartels, criminal gangs, hitmen, and drug dealers???

Mike is a kind of guy you want have on your side when things go south. Everyone claim his respect of honor as a flaw in a criminal world, but I think it is the only way men could build something great that works. Mike's estimation was solid these guys would keep their mouth shut until they are paid. The payment was a key part of it, not honor os some other pompous BS but money!
I like the fact that Lydia tries the same thing that most women try on their men. Try as much as possible to have the men call out something they themselves want. They won't come up straight and say it themselves. E.g. "Do you feel like having dinner outside?"

I liked Mike. Reasonable chap who kept everything above board, saw the bigger picture right as everyone (Walt specifically) was losing it.
