Saw them tonight with Circle Jerks and J.B. Just keeps getting more intense. They also played “Borstal Breakout” and it was incredible. I’ve seen them a few times over the years and they’re criminally underrated. Such a great show all around
I remember one of the times NA came through Ventura here on the west coast I had the chance to talk to John a little bit after their set and he was so unbelievably kind and down to earth. It was a really cool contrast to have that moment with him after seeing his raw unrelenting intensity while he's up there doing his thing.

So good I went to Austin to see the show again 2 nights later. Circle Jerks are touring again (Spring 2024) with Descendents and Adolescents and will be here in a few weeks! I'll probably see them _three times_ during this tour! Can't wait! Again.

I was a kid playing drums in the Detroit HC scene and I thought the whole world was like us. We had the Freezer, Clubhouse, Greystone and Endless Summer skatepark. There really was a bunch of badass bands. Brannon was at the front of it all.

i saw them live this year in spring and it was the most intense show of my 10 years going to concerts. I didn't know the band well but Brannon just mad dogged the crowd and then spit on the stage the same moment the guitar kicked in and from that moment on I was in a frenzy. Thank christ for this video because its pretty much the exact concert sound wise I saw and theres nothing else quite like it even from them.

The kinda sad thing is that John Brannon went on to do other music after leaving NA that I’m certain he’d rather be playing. This is far beneath his true talent, actually all the guys on stage played in other better bands.
As an adult I agree. NA is the one band that literally put Detroit on the map back in the early 80’s. But the Hyenas were real close to his heart. I just read where he never considered doing anything where they’d have a guy replace Larissa. I really don’t think he’s into hardcore, it pays bills

I agree and I’ve seen them many times, but I don’t think that at anytime they were destined for commercial success. In the 80-90, then they should’ve made it if they ever were. They were well respected in that post hardcore scene with bands like Nirvana and Sonic Youth as well as touring and playing bigger shows overseas. But ultimately they fell victim to their own virtue and the rest is blah blah blah
