  • This song is special to us. It's the first time we've made a song from scratch that didn't really need any enhancements in Ableton Live aside from subtle compression on a few tracks and the master. Not because that couldn't also easily be done on the MPC itself, but because it was things we didn't hear until in the final process of uploading the video.
    It uses some of the paid plugins from Akai, including the Jura synth (our favorite synth at the moment!), Air Delay Pro and Air Soft Clipper. The latter was used pretty extensively in the mixing process.
    If you're interested in buying any of those plugins and would like to support our channel, please consider using these affiliate links! They add no additional cost to your purchase but we get a small commission. Thanks in advance!

    The MPC Live 2 is a remarkable groovebox. We took it with us on a 24-hour music-making camper van trip and it's pretty much the ideal groovebox for these kinds of scenarios with its built-in battery and speaker. This allowed us to record this jam in one take without any cables whatsoever. All you need to do is to convert a song into a sequence, arm Automation and then hit Over Dub and it will record all track/pad mutes and one-shot hits on pads into the full sequence.
    When we got back home, we even continued to add to the song by resampling tracks and adding ear candy. It's a really fun and productive workflow.
    ► You can download the project files for both the MPC and Ableton Live 11 from / sineway .
    We'd love to hear what you think! Please leave a comment below. Also, if you can help us identify the correct genre for this type of music, that would be really helpful too! :)

    I LOVE your music first and foremost. That you do it all on the MPC is both inspiring and a reminder that I do not need new gear, I should just use what I have (which is already too much!)

      Thank you for taking the time to write that, it means a lot! 🙏 And yeah, I think we all need that reminder that it's about the time you spend with your gear that makes the difference, not the amount of gear you own (in fact, to me, there is an inverse correlation between my productivity and the amount of gear I own!). I'm just the same though and I'm currently looking at the Minifreak Stellar or a proper midi keyboard. The former I really don't need, but the latter I could justify because I miss playing on real keys. But it's still just GAS isn't it. 😂

    Fantastic track! How did you record it? I need to use external recorder when playing live.

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks John! That's the beauty of this workflow with the MPC: you don't need an external recorder. What we do is we have the overall song structure defined already (as in which sequence/pattern to play and how many times they play) using Song Mode. This is very similar to the process on the Syntakt. We then use the "convert song to sequence" command to create one longer sequence. That is then the base plate on which we jam over.
      The next step is to hit Over Dub and arm automation and then hit Play Start. From there on, anything you do will get recorded into this new sequence: pads you hit live, knobs you twist (be sure to use Project mode for the q-links so you can define what each of the 4x4 knobs do), and tracks and pads you mute/unmute. Once you are done jamming, you just press Stop and now you have a sequence that you can play back with all the things you did recorded as automation lanes. You could even record an audio track while doing this if, say, you had an external synth that you were also jamming on. Since the MPC has an audio interface with two stereo in pairs, you could even hook up two devices if you wanted to. We're not that advanced and I personally enjoy working with just one piece of gear at a time. Hope this explains it!

    I love the Air Delay Pro, it can generate some really unique effects. The Jura is still on my shopping list, it's quite expensive though. As for the Air Soft Clipper, if you watch the reviews there's actually quite some debate about what it uniquely does.

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Appreciate your input on this! And I largely agree. Air Delay Pro really surprised me, it has turned delays into a form of creative expression all of a sudden. The auto-clear really helped with the lead in this song, and the wobble/modulation is what contributed to the lo-fi vibe of the intro/outtro.
      The Jura is our favorite synth at the moment. It just sounds so darn good and the built-in reverb is simply amazing. I agree it's not a bargain but the amount of time we spend with it easily justifies the price tag to me at least because it made me stop complaining about what the MPC was lacking. It sometimes goes on sale so perhaps you could hold out until Black Friday or something? But if you are buying it sooner, we'd obviously love it if you used *our* affiliate link and not someone else's. 😘😂🙏
      About the Soft Clipper, I really like that it gives me a visual of the in/out levels and that it just sounds so smooth at a reasonable drive level. I feel the Diode Clip colors the sound more. But it's splitting hairs and I agree this isn't a plugin you necessarily *need*. But it's interestingly the one paid plugin we use the most to keep peaks in check. It has made our mixes better and is in large part what made it possible for us to mix this song entirely on the MPC.
      Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this and for listening to our music!
