    Lyrics below:
    Ooh-ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    This is the happy house
We′re happy here in the happy house
Oh it's such fun, fun, fun
    Whoa-ohh
We′ve come to play in the happy house
And waste a day in the happy house
    It never rains, never rains
We've come to scream in the happy house
We're in a dream in the happy house
    We′re all quite sane-ane-ane
    Whoa-ohh
    This is the happy house
    We′re happy here, oh
There's room for you if you say you do
But don′t say no or you'll have to go
We′ve done no wrong with our blinkers on
It's safe and calm if you sing along
    Sing along, sing along
    Ho-ho
    This is the happy house
We′re happy here in the happy house
To forget ourselves and pretend all's well
    There is no hell
    Ho-ho
    Whoah-ohh-ohh
    Ooh-ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    Ooh-ooh
    I'm looking through your window
    Ooh-ooh
    I′m looking through your window

My wife and I weren't married yet, so my kid can only say we were there. She does get to claim me as a 9/11 survivor though, which was not nearly as fun as Lollapalooza "91.

Same! I literally came here to say the same thing! It's one of my absolute fave songs of the post-punk era, and on listening to this again for the first time in years (I had the LP, who knows where that is now), I realised that proto-breakbeat is really just awesome. That's Budgie, who became Siouxsie's partner. The whole thing is just perfection - the lyric, Siouxsie's vocal (of course), John McGeoch's poignant lead guitar (why he isn't in the video...), and Steve Severin with that great bassline. All fabulous.

This is the happy house-we're happy here in the happy house oh it's such fun
We've come to play in the happy house
And waste a day in the happy house-it never rains
We've come to scream in the happy house We're in a dream in the happy house
    We're all quite sane
This is the happy house-we're happy here There's room for you if you say "I do"
But don't say no or you'll have to go
We've done no wrong with our blinkers on It's safe and calm if you sing along

Budgie is one of the greatest drummers around.
      From Wiki:
In 2013, Spin rated him at No. 28 in their list of "The 100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music", writing: "Post-punk introduced a lot of amazing drummers, but none more influential than Budgie. With the Banshees, Budgie didn't just play rhythms-he played hooks and leads, brilliant parts that set the songs on fire. His tom-tom-intensive approach, [was] enlightened by his awareness of world music".Spin considered his "most booming moment" to be "Into the Light", from 1981's Juju, saying: "Budgie drums up a marvel of kinetic syncopation and invention".

Before breakbeat existed -amazing. Budgie was into polyrhythms etc, and this was really a much better take on a "reggaeish" vibe than so many non-Jamaican musicians who attempted it. So, imagine in some alternate universe, instead of sampling the Amen Break ad infinitum, if somehow Budgie's beats became the basis of DnB

+Suzey Non Theist There are plenty of great, new artists out there still, they're just not pushed by the major labels. They do their own thing and are being more experimental for it. The spirit of Siouxsie is alive and well and dwelling in the digital underground.

+Matt Cole Yeah but bands like the Banshees managed to stay underground but just peep up enough for everyone to see. Even if we were scared of them (which we kind of needed to be). I don't see that any more. Can you point me to it?

    • @MrStephen182
      @MrStephen182 8 ปีที่แล้ว +74

+Suzey Non Theist If you want to be told by the mainstream what to like then your get feed lots of rubbish but if you look in the underground your find music is very much alive and doing great. You got the internet so use it to find some great music. Type a band you like into something like Spotify or Last FM and then use the links to find modern bands sound like them. Simple. Never have people had so much new good music at their fingertips and yet all they do is complain.

Used to go to a goth club, and this was one of the songs the DJ would play when he was switching from "shit nobody wanted to dance to in order to make them get their drink on" to "shit people wanted to dance to to get the floor packed by midnight."

@ciao214Z No, 2000's. The now defunct Lizard Lounge in Dallas-Fort Worth. They did Praise The Lord (PTL) club on Thurs and The Church on Sundays. When I started going, the main room DJ played a lot of old-school classics like this, Type-O Negative, etc. DJ Virus in the other room would play more modern stuff. Then the main room guy quit or something, and DJ Virus took over the man room and sometimes played old-school stuff.. but usually played more "stompy" stuff. Funs times. Folks were really chill and nice, and the music was great.
