Thanks for taking the time to make this invaluable video. As the reviewer mentions, the unit comes with inadequate instructions, so the video is really useful in helping to set up and understand what does what. Just set mine up this morning, and would have struggled without this video. Just one bit of advice I would give - at 3.29, you prise the paperclip-type controller upwards to then adjust the red tab extensions to control the arc. I was a bit concerned about damaging this delicate clip so I left mine in place and instead eased off the red circular controllers from the stem, set them in rough position for the arc then slid them back onto the stem and made slight adjustments as and when necessary.

Thank you for this video. So useful, as the manufacturers instructions were practically unfathomable despite two of us continually looking at the red clip mechanism we just couldn't work it out! Thank you again as it's also useful to see it in action. Hoping this is bye bye to the constant cat fouling that's been taking place because nothing else has worked!

There are more than three million cats in UK. They kill millions of birds. Why the hell do the owners kick them out at night?

Just ordered one from Amazon. £28.98. Looks very flimsy compared to my old Scarecrow spray which I loaned to relative to deter foxes during the winter. Of course it froze up and bust.

Excellent video!!! Thank goodness for closed caption option bc sometimes British accents are hard to understand! Haha! Sadly, this is not a U.S. product so unless I want to pay $21+ in shipping, I can't get.

Mine appears to have failed, just after 1 year has passed. The PIR just isn't triggering the value. How convenient that the warranty is 12 months, more landfill waste...

Just got one of these today, I'm only 4½ mins into your video and have to say thank God I found it! Even though I'm an engineer by trade this thing was not easy to fathom out, the instructions are woefully inadequate! The two red tabs threw me completely, they don't 'slide' as the instructions say, they rotate, 2 totally different things. There's no mention of flipping up the metal rectangular clip that moves in between them either! How they expect people to figure it out without breaking the damned thing is ridiculous. All-in all it seems to work well though on first testing. Tonight I will be putting a cctv camera next to it and see what happens overnight! Now to watch the rest of your video!

LOL yep can be fun setting these up and getting it right you need patient's, they do work and keeps the cats away, The battery compartment terminals can get rusty and the spikes are easily broken but alternative can be put together easy enough, I have had mine 2 years this year i had to clean the terminals, you can take them apart easy to clean, I don't have them on all the time as once the cats get to know, they stay away for a while, but you will have to put them on a few times during the year, and also helps if you move them about as the cats do remember where they were, but happy with the purchase apart from when i forgot they were on and got a soaking lol

I can see a few other uses for this , and it is a joy watching you try not to burst into hysterics ....yes I am probably thinking the same . Perfect for Halloween and when the unwanted door knockers are about . For just over 20 quid I reckon it is worth every penny for the chuckles it could offer. All you need now is a trail camera to film the little rascals get frit out their skins ! LOL . If you whack a 3x3 post into the ground and bore a top hole the spike should hold much steadier and not fall over in wet ground . For heaven's sake don't tell C Packham , he spoils all the fun .

Excellent work. Thank you, sir. Will be ordering one soon. Nothing worse than the stench of cat poo emitting from your lawnmower, or smearing unseen poo, over the rest of the garden. 👍 To be honest, I think the noise alone, would scare away cats.

Just to make you aware, PIR sensors work better when you walk across them as opposed to walking towards the sensor. This is because it sends out 'blocks' of light in a wide fan shape and so when an object crosses these 'block' it triggers. Cheers

Thanks very much. I had a handyman set me 5 up today in my garden.
All working but I can see from the video he hasn't got all the settings correct as some are far more powerful than others.
So tomorrow I will go and fiddle with each of the settings to get them perfect and get soaked doing it I'm sure.
I was thinking even I wouldn't want to walk through my garden now so I highly doubt a cat will.
    Bye bye cats :o)

It's a PIR (Passive Infra Red) detector Tom and is designed to pick up moving heat sources so in theory shouldn't be affected by branches moving although they can be affected by wind causing air movements inside the detector itself. I too have a garden cat poo problem so I'm very interested in how you get on with this although I'll probably end up building something myself

How can you not like this review. I like mine so much I bought one for my mum. Didn’t realise you push the level down before you turn the distance dial. Thought it was a bad design until you demonstrated this. Anyway, positioned in the right place this is the most effective way to rid cats from fouling your garden. Used for a week and packed it away. If the cats return I’ll set it up again.

Charly, great video thank you. Can you please tell me - when you attach the hose pipe to the mains water tap do you leave the mains water tap running all the time? Or, would I turn on my mains water tap where my hose pipe connects and then connect the hose pipe to the pest jet spray nozzle and only turn on my mains water tap for a few seconds just so there is enough water in the rubber pipe to spray ay cats with? Sorry, I'm not sure if I leave the mains water tap on all the time, surely this would lead water to build up and cause a problem? Thanks so much.

As the pressure of the water drives the spray it has to remain turned on.

If the "head" of water is high enough you should get good pressure . A water butt about 5ft high should do it.

We have been using this one for couple months now and it's fan bloody tactic, but I was puzzled just in the recent 30s and 40s degree heat as to why it continued to go off every few mins with nothing to set it off, I through a big spanner in front of the sensor a stone which in the sun was 26degs I waved plants in its path.....nothing, I pointed the thermometer at a cement mixer and a wheel Barrow 25 feet away the other side of the garden and where the sensor was pointing to find that both largish metal objects eminated 26degs but with fluctuations as when you look down a long road in the heat of the day, so I moved the machinery and no more adverse battery ware though we did wonder why it didn't happen at night .....temperature doh"
