      This boat is really not a full keel. It is cut away under the bow. That means that the bow is very sensitive to the wind. When in reverse, the nose will alway blow down wind. Keep that in mind.

  • @tomh1285
    @tomh1285 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a young lad, my dad taught my brothers and I how sail on his Pearson Vanguard. By today's standards, the beam is narrow and it's a slug in the water. But you could point it at any waves or weather and it would shrug them off and keep plowing through. Also, we backed it up all the time. We didn't know it was supposed to be tricky - we just learned how to do it and were experts in no time.

    These old full keel tanks are the way to go, IMO. Yeah, they're not the fastest way to get across an ocean, but that's why we have airplanes. And if I had to pick any of the boats you've done to get caught out in a blow, it would likely be this one.
    And I really like the split level cabin look of the early Pearsons. You get massive head room where you need it without ruining the look.

    • @dboboc
      @dboboc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not a full keel, it’s a long keel. Full keel boats are like a Flicka, Bristol Channel cutter, or Stonehorse. They don’t have a cutaway forefoot.

    FYI those type cotpit with wood coatings are not very comfortable and a clever redesign could bring it into the 20th century by replacing with a better shaped product that need no varnishing and does not leak.

    I can't for the life of me figure out why you would assume this boat floats. It is sitting on the hard with a sketchy bottom full of delam holes where the gel coat has broken off exposing the Vinyl ester resin impregnated chopped fiberglass mat construction . This boat is so cheap because it would need a complete covering in 10 oz cloth with epoxy resin to seal it up. That doesn't even cover the wet core issues on the deck. I would run away from this project boat. There is nothing more expensive than a cheap boat.
